  1. Then I take a quick glimpse at his time peice. A fugly ass LV sub with a yellow pearl, horrible bezel, crown sticking about an inch and no dial depth what so ever. But hey it was sweeping, good for him. You know what I said? "Nice Rolex." I asked him how much he paid for it, he said "$600. Its a rep too, swiss made."

:bangin: Was his wrist turning green from his $600.00 'Swiss Made' piece o' [censored]?

    :bicycle:

  2. It does look like a 2846 though right?

It does look like a 2846, except for the rotor; the rotor in the original post is more characteristic to a 2836 than a 2846. But, that's not to say that rotors can't be swapped ;)

But, to be fair, the 2846 is basically the same mainplates and bridges as a 2836; if you look at ETA's schematics, they list the 2836 and 2846 on the same spec sheet.

If these are 2846 ETA movements, doesn't this mean they may be better for Co-axial reps and vintage reps?

They would indeed! As a matter of fact, I do this very swap in all of my MBW vintage Rolex watches :)

  3. For some reason, the more and more I think about it, the more I seem to recall the prior 'ETA Debacle' with the watches from Paul and Silix involving some Racine (Enicar spelled backwards) movements...

Does anyone else remember this? Or maybe I'm taking crazy pills

  4. T'is genuine!

3.5M serial dates this to 72/73 (caseback correlates) with a MKIV dial as a replacement (this one probably had a MKII dial originally). Also replaced:

-Crown and tube (should be pre-Triplock 7mm crown/tube set)

-Crystal (should be a Superdome 39)

    -Bracelet (should be a 9315)

Overall, a nice watch with pointy guards. I like it!

  5. As you know I amn't a Daytona guy, but yours is definately growing on me. Thanks so much for your excellent write up and most of all I hope that you truely enjoy the watch, as you have put so much into it.

I am humbled to have been a part of this journey and truely glad to call you a friend.

Enjoy the piece, I know you love it, and say hi to the family for me.

Chris, my friend, a huge thanks to you for providing the heart and soul for my project. Without your help, I'd still be looking at an empty case and searching for that perfect movement to complete this watch. My plan for this one was to build something that I could pass on to my son when he's old enough to appreciate such a watch, and perhaps even more so, the effort his dad made to put it together (with the help of friends). But, until then, I'll enjoy seeing it on my wrist for the time being

Holy cow! You're doing it again. Well, since you can't wear two at the same time. I am partial to the white. ;) Do you suppose Ebel is going to wonder why there is a sudden surge in the purchase of movements only from non-AD's.

W- We'll have to see if a 2nd one is in order. I have tons of other things I need to do... But perhaps 'Part II' will involve an El Primero 400 from a different donor :)

    Fantastic !!!! :3a::3a::3a::3a::3a::3a::3a::3a:

    Gerco

    Thank you, Gerco!

Here is the topic I was looking for the past 2 weeks!!!

You managed THE project nobody can ever tell this is a rep because it is simply not !!!

I say hands down to you, I'm amazed wear it well !!

Thanks Ludo. There are still a few things that I need to add... Searching for a gen 4030 rotor and bridge. And, of course, if I can find the right black dial with chocolate subdials, I'll have to pull the trigger on that, too.

  6. Here's an interesting Tudor/5513 that I've been watching:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A%3AIT&rd=1

MDL- T'is an interesting piece, but one I'd steer clear from (especially at it's current bid of $1051.99). The dial is off, and not a very good redial in my opinion (lots of flaws); bezel insert is making me scratch my head, the case back is wrong, and of course, the movement is incorrect for a 5513 anyways. I think you'd be better of converting an MBW 1680 into a Tudor, or a 5513; It would cost less to do such a project, and you'd have essentially the same thing once it's done (An ETA based Sub).

    Just my $0.02...
