  1. There was a 40mm PAM rep with base dial powered by an ETA 2836 offered roughly 2 years ago. There was also an RXW equivalent to that watch as well before the big MM20 hit the market (fitted with a screw down crown instead of the trademark Panerai crown guard).

For what it's worth... The 7750 fitted in the PAM48/49/50/51 reps is not a terribly bad movement. Since the stopwatch functions have been removed, there is far less to go wrong.

  2. David- I think this is the one they are talking about? 5218-218/A?

    Quoted from 'risti...

    5218-218/A 1996 Black Seal

Goodness knows what happened with the Black Seal, but it was only ever produced for a total of 5 pieces. Rightfully claiming the crown of "rarest Panerai", this watch is a fairly regular 44mm PVD Luminor case, with a black dial and small seconds. The movement was the regular UT 6497.

  3. Would there be a rivited bracelet that would be correct on the Daytona 6265 or only oyster bracelet?

Well, for a 6239 or 6240, a rivetted band would be correct (7205 with 71 end links). However, the 6263 and 6265 were theoretically released after the rivet bands were superceded by the folded link 7835 and heavy link 78350 thereafter. So... If you have a 6263/5, my advice would be to go folded link or heavy link :)

    Ubi, you are such a show-off! :D

Me? A showoff? Errrr... I suppose so  Sorry 'bout that

  4. The major most difficult part is always the CASE. So if it already exists, the race is already half-over.

Hmmmm... So, if I understand correctly, what you're saying then is that it's absolutely possible to commission some limited edition 'FOLEX' Goobermariner watches?

  5. I like it but the real icing would have been to just have the middle prong of the crown remaining, remove all the others and the impression would have been of middle finger rudeness ;)

Heh... I had the same thought, actually, while I was inking in the dial. That may be a change that will be implemented in the next revision.

I'm also looking for some silly hands to go with it. I have a few ideas....

  6. Haha... Thanks, gang. Had a bunch of parts left over and thought it would be fun to do something hokey like this. Was quick and easy to do... Think I spent all of 20 minutes doing the whole thing, including trimming down the dial to fit the case. I'll be tearing the watch down again to do a couple of small minor changes, and then it'll be done, and ready to collect dust :)

  7. Since Ziggy is out for the summer, I thought I would chime in. It was my tourbillon that ziggy has always discussed. Always wanting a tourbillon, but not wanting to spend $40K, I bought the first generation. I paid about $800. The dial and movement looked so good, I even had the case gold plated by Artisan plating (those of you know both how good they are and how long it takes). It worked for about 3 months and then stopped working. Ziggy tried everything (and it even became a challenge for him). He never found anything wrong, but in the end the quality of the movement was just too fragile. He strongly recommend I give up my persuit.

But Ziggy still had the case, so I started searching for a replacement movement. I found one that Ziggy & I thought was a match, purchased it and sent it to Ziggy. This newer version is of much higher quality. Ziggy believes that it will be much more reliable. The only problem is that the stem is deeper than the old movement, so it didn't work in the case. Now, my gold case, beautiful Breguet dial, brand new tourbillon movement and old broken one sit in one of Ziggy's boxes.

Then Eddie came out with the Skeleton version tourbillon(now everyone has it). I couldn't help myself and bought the first one. I have had it about six months with no problems. It is very beautiful, but has one problem. The hands are off center, but the hour marker (and white ring) are designed for a center hand placement, hence in the 3 and 9 positions the hands are off location.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards.

Do you have any pics by chance?

  8. For some strange reason today, I got a very strong urge to put together a very unique, limited edition 1 of 1 never before seen watch. After brainstorming for about 5 minutes or so, the concept was born, and I went to work immediately!

Ladies and gents, it gives me great pleasure to introduce the FOLEX UBI-ARINER!

  9. I got into this stuff initially out of curiosity, which turned into a hobby of trying to build the most accurate examples possible using genuine parts where applicable. Much like someone building a model ship, or putting a replica car together. The fun for me is starting with a blank canvas, and tracking down the right parts for the watch to get it as close to the genuine article as possible. I don't try and pass my watches off for gen, but rather I explain the procedure in which I built my watch from parts. Usually quite the conversation topic amongst friends, family and even sometimes random people whom I don't know.
