  1. Some goodies from Lucky Number Slevin:

Sorry about that, son. But sometimes there's more to life than just livin'.

I'm going to say the same thing a man with two penises says when his tailor asks him if he dresses right or left: Yes!

Somebody's trying to kill you. Me.

  2. Hi!

I am in Germany and also had this problem with a rep PAM. I think your friend may be in serious trouble.. here's what happened to me:

Ordered a fake PAM from Hong Kong, got a letter from the local customs office to appear there and declare what's in the package. I searched for a way to circumvent this, calles the customs office and said I was on holiday and couldn't get there in time (they had a deadline of two weeks I think). The offered "Postverzollung", which means I just send them the neccesary declaration letters and they hand it over to DHL. DHL then collects the taxes from me when delivering the parcel.

Well, that never happened... I got a "nice" letter from the german customs headquarter in Frankfurt that they have discovered "counterfeit goods", assumingly a fake Panerai watch. They would send the watch to Panerai for them to check it. :black_eye: Bad...

Didn't take long before I received a "not-so-nice" letter from Panerai's German law office. They wanted me to agree to destroying the watch and lectured me not to buy fake Panerai watches again. If I would agree to destroying the watch, I would get off with a warning, because this was the first time they caught me.. Of course I agreed and I think I am quite lucky the didn't charge me.

I also got another letter from customs headquarter in which they also warned me off. So I guess I am on "black list" now... I'll never try that again, that's for sure.

If there had been 5 watches in the package... well, I am not sure they would have reacted in the same way...

Good luck to your friend! :wounded1:

  3. I asked Domi how long my UPO franken would take, he told me 10 days its now been almost 3 weeks and he wont answer any messages! Should I be worried or is this normal? His original message replies were so fast.

I think he's been away for a few days. Someone told me he'll be back tomorrow. So don't worry!

And he seems to have quite a lot of work to do atm... which is a good thing of course. :victory:

  4. Hi all.

Since the U2 is one of my few keepers, I've decided to shod it with genuine rubber, as the dust repellent material has worn off the rubber, it looks pretty awful now.

The best price I can find so far is 55 euros from www.sinnwatches.com

Does anybody know of any better deals out there?

Many thanks in advance amigos :thumbsupsmileyanim:

    Hi,

as I told you in my PM, mine was 30 Euro + 5 Euro shipping directly from Sinn. So maybe they're just trying to profit from the shipping fees?

You could try "Point of Time", it's a German Sinn reseller. They have the same prices and maybe they charge less for shipping.

E-Mail: kontakt (at) pointoftime (dot) de

    Cheers,

    Whatever

  5. What about the reps we trade among ourselves? What is the ratio of good (as described) versus bad (shall we just say "less than' described)?

I bought 15 watches from members altogether. Only 4 of them were not quite as described and only 2 of those 4 had really big issues, the other 2 were an easy fix.

That's why I prefer buying from members. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

By the way, it can happen to all of us: I shipped a watch to the US once and it was DOA even though it worked perfectly before. I couldn't even take it back because of the customs issue (I live in Germany). Not good... that's one of the reasons I prefer selling in EU only.

  6. I'd say my rate is about 50/50 up to now. It's a bit strange - we really seem to accept a lot of problems with rep watches while we would have returned a gen straight away. Partly that's because of the price, sure. But I think it's also a psychological issue - we still think "Hey, what a great value", because we bought the rep for 1/10th of the gen price and therefore we tend to accept some minor issues. At least that's how I'm thinking. Problem is, if we'd return all watches with minor issues we would indeed return about 75% and all the dealers would go bust... :black_eye:

Anyway, I also think the overall quality of reps is not too good, at least compared to gens that is. But usually you can fix most of the issues yourself. And that's part of the fun imo. Personally I think buying gens is a bit boring... :whistling:

    Cheers,

    Whatever

  7. Hi,

I'm waiting for UPO (ETA 2824-2) to arrive and I would like to bring it to a watchmaker for a service check right away. Does anyone have a few tips what specific service works should be done to this movement? What needs to be checked, oiled, ...?

    Thanks,

    JB

    Hi!

I think every watchmaker or watchsmith on this planet knows how to service an ETA 2824-2... that's a very common standard movement.

Your watch-guy will know what to do! :)

    Cheers,

    W.

  8. So this is a gen strap? The one thing I don't like really about my U2, is the strap. The rep strap attracts too much dust. Is the gen any better?

    Hi!

The strap still attracts some dust - but I've definitely seen worse rubber straps. It's OK for me. And for 30 Euros it's probably worth a shot...

    Cheers,

    W.

  9. Hi,

I always loved the Sinn U1 - and when I found one in RGs sales area for under 100 Euros I jumped on it...

I think it's a pretty good rep, AR is great and it seems to be really close to the gen. Unfortunately the bezel isn't very good. The painted numbers somehow scream "FAKE"...

As I liked the black bezel SDR version better anyway, I decided to buy a gen bezel. They go for 250 Euro... :black_eye:. Well, I found a new one that was a bit cheaper but nontheless... quite an investment in a 100 Euro rep.

But I think it was really worth it - the watch really looks gen now. And by the way, swapping the bezel was done in 2 minutes - unscrew the 4 tiny screws, take the old bezel off, fit the new one, screw tight again. Easy!

    What do you think?

    Cheers,

    Whatever123

P.S.: The rubber strap is gen, too - you get them for just 30 Euros (without the clasp)!
