  1. Am looking and learning as I go. My mate wants a Titanium case but with a date on the dial and this looks to be an impossible combination. I also see that a swiss mvmnt is non-existant as well. Thanks for the help. I have two pieces with A7750's inside (Rollies) and they are fine and thats with chrono functions on as well so I will tell my mate to forget about swiss mvmnts. Am I right in thinking that the titanium case has not been made with the dial showing a date? Could he buy a 104 from say Josh and also buy a cheaper watch with a titanium case and have the inaards transferred - am I mad? (Highly likely!)

Cheers for help again, all the best.

  2. Hi to all you Panerai people,

I am trying to help a good friend buy a rep. I am usually to be found in the Rolex area so I apologise for the noobiness and/or stupidity of this question but I was wondering if you might help me out. My friend wants to buy a PAM00240 but I can't find a rep of it. I spoke to him and he basically wants that style of dial, subsidiary seconds at 9 o'clock date at 3 o'clock in a 44mm case. Could you point me in the right direction? Ideally he would like a swiss made movement but I don't know weather this is possible. Any input would be much appreciated. I have bought a Panny from Davidsen before and it has proved to be very good. I also sourced one from Trustytime which has also been fine. Any suggestions as to where and who to buy from would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Dieselpower.

  3. I think my base MBW cost $350. For the price you want to pay you have no choice. Get the one you have pictured, like I said, I was very happy with mine, it was tough as nails and of course to most people it was a completely convincing rep - even when compared to gen pictures. Enjoy :D

  4. OK. Let me tell you what happened to me then you can make your mind up.

I bought one of the models that you have pictured. I could not tell the difference from the gen. I was very happy. I wore the watch for years it was fine, it had a swiss eta movement and never went wrong looked great and was even waterproof.

    Then I discovered this forum.

    Oh dear.

After doing alot of reading I found out that my beloved 1665 was not as accurate a rep as I thought and it began to bug me. I discovered the existence of a more accurate version of the 1665 called an MBW. I wanted one. I then also learned that it would take genuine parts if ever I should want to have the watch improved upon. I wanted one. I then found out that they were tricky to get hold of, only certain dealers could access them etc. I wanted one. Eventually I made contact with a person who could supply one and I bought it. I was very happy. I had it modified (few new parts etc) and it is now my daily beater. The old 1665 never goes on my wrist, eventually it got water in it (I took it on holiday) and it is now dead (ish) I am keeping it for old times sake.

Was it a good watch? Definitely.

Do I regret buying it? No.

Should I have got an MBW in the first place? For me, yes and that is why I suggest you do the same but hey, that's just my opinion. Maybe the things that bugged me will not bug you. If that's the case then get the one you have pictured. It will not let you down.

    My modded MBW 1665:

    Reshaped crown guards

    Gen crown and tube

    Clarks T39

    Re-finised dial

    Better rep insert

    Ofrei pearl

    Slow beat eta

Rep hands (can't remember where from)

    Ubi datewheel (flat top 3's)

    Vintagised caseback

    Hope this helps.

  5. I stand corrected.

    The Gods have spoken.

Must admit I thought the photo was one of those cheapo 1665's that was adapted from a Sub case. I have one and it was a reliable beater but I'm glad I found out more and bought an MBW and had it modded.

  6. Don't buy it. Totally wrong.

Do a bit of homework and get an MBW 1665 (various people sell them) try Eurotimez. Its a good starting point and can be worked on in the future to make a really good piece. By the way that bracelet is as wrong as wrong can be.

    Good hunting.

  7. Cheers for that heywood. I don't think I will be swimming with 6263 but I do hope they at least feel better than the pushers it came with.

Freddy333, sorry to hear you don't want to trade just yet, but PM me when you're ready. You might want to throw in a couple of those crappy 'tonas as well. Oh and if you're urinating into buns whilst walking, make sure that Comex is waterproof - I don't want no rusty movements.

  8. No, hang on........what kind of panoramic views????????

    Oh the usual stuff:

Tramps getting pi**ed, the odd mugger out for an evenings hard work, police cars, varied detritis wafting around like tumbleweed, drug dealers, traffic wardens, persons of dubious sexual persuasions getting their kicks on the common, burger bars that serve heart attacks in a bun, dog sh*t etc etc.

    Tempted?

Go on... you know you want it......

The Comex is mine, all mine ha ha ha ha ha (fiendish laugh)

  9. OK freddy333. I have the following to swap for that Comex:

1 x Very cute 4 month old boy named Felix. He laughs on cue. Does not vomit (too much) and has a promising career as a child model.

1 x Easy on the eye wife who is a wonderful mother to said Felix and is great at the cleaning (not cooking - that's my department)

1 x Reasonably sized London appartment with panoramic views and swimming pool (rare in the smoke)

    1 x 1952 Gen Rolex semi-bubbleback

1 x Gen Omega Speedmaster Pro

1 x Right arm, hardly used and only minor scratches due to 40 odd years of reasonable use.

Take any or all of the above and I will be a happy man.

Cheers and all the best, your work is incredible :1a:

  10. Ditto that.

Sorry to hear about the additional customs fees, but you are still way under what some people sell these things for (check out Phong's prices for the exact same parts). Ask Cousins if their pushers come with long center posts that have screwdriver slots at the bottom end? If they do, then they may be the right 1 (same as Ofrei sells). Or, better yet, see if they can supply a picture of the disassembled parts. Post it here & I can tell you that way.

Of course, it is always best to pay less than more. But, considering the watch these are going into, I think that if you look at the additional customs fees NOT as an additional expense, but, instead, as the cost of getting a classic Daytona done right, it will be quite palatable.

    Hi freddy333,

Here is a picture of the Cousins pushers and if you look closely I think you can see the screwdriver slots at the bottom end.

    post-2563-1225126267_thumb.jpg

I have asked Cousins a couple of questions about these parts but have sent no reply so I gave up on them.

I hope this project comes out right and I take great comfort that it seems to have your blessing. You are the master (oh and Ubi of course - don't want to cause a feud ;) ) paid the robbing postal service their money today so should be getting pushers tomorrow. Then off the whole lot goes and then the big wait. It's going to kill me but as we all know that's part of the fun.

Thanks everyone for spurring me on with this one it really helps.

Oh and freddy333 - your Comex is still rubbish.

  11. I am happy to see you making this watch even more spectacular dieselpower!

    Cheers M,

Hopefully it will be so nice that it will make you regret ever selling it ha ha :D

Have been following your Daytona project and that looks fantastic. All the best with it and I look forward to seeing the results.

  12. As a Brit I hate to admit it but France is an amazing country. I'm off there this weekend funnily enough to visit friends near Geneva. My mate works for Rolex at Geneva so I will spend the weekend eating his food, drinking his wine and taking the p*ss out of the hideousness of the new Rolex designs, over which he will get very Swiss and defensive. Bliss. Does life get any better?
