  1. Did a search and nothing came up so apologies if this is old news. Picked this magazine up today in my local WH Smith here in the UK and it is absoolutely fantastic. It looks to be printed and published in Europe, and costs
  2. How much of an improvement is the new date wheel?
  3. I'm pretty happy, although I tend to do my research after the purchase (which is a bit daft I know), hence one or two watches in my collection bother me a bit because there are now very obvious flaws that I wasn't aware of before. I wear them all though, I rotate them about once a week. I have one or two that I have my eye on at the moment to complete my collection - been saying that for months though!
  4. The most common complaint I see on this board is about datewheels not being accurate in terms of font, or the wheel not aligning properly to the window. Is there no potential solution to this at source? Am I right in saying a lot of watches use similar wheels like the valjoux ETA 7750 date wheel? Why is this so difficult to rep accurately? Cheers T
  5. As an aside to the moral dilema, can anyone enlighten me about Angelus movements? What makes them so desireable?
  6. Just noticed this on Pam111's collector pages. Is it a fantasy watch? Its certainly very smart. Can't decide if I like it or not. Thoughts?
  7. You took it into a dealer to get the links done?? You sir, are a madman! It is an excellent rep, definitely my favourite watch. Have you removed the protective plastic coating off of the bezel? I've seen a few people don't realise there is plastic on there and think the quality is poor.
  8. I've noticed this too in recent months. I've put it down to the perceived benefit of buying a watch more local to you, rather than run the customs risk from the Far East. I don't think this should add any sort of a premium to second hand watches though, although it clearly does. Remember too there is a high turnover of stock shown on the dealers' forums, so there are a lot of watches that aren't immediately available to purchase direct from dealers at any one time (notwithstanding their own websites which maybe not everyone is aware of) - this will affect price (or at least sellers' price expectations). Buying second hand from members is often the only place for most people to get hold of a nicely modded watch - this bumps up overall prices too, as the value of these pieces is largely subjective. At the end if the day, purchasers on these forums will determine the prices sellers are charging - as long as there is someone willing to pay a premium for a used watch, prices will remain artificially high in my view.
  9. That's a shame - I had several good experiences with Sash. Hope he's back soon.
  10. To be fair, assuming it was shipped on 27th April, I've waited over 6 weeks for stuff via EMS before now...
  11. I have this watch from TTK - my only complaint is the movement is really noisy, like its scraping aginst the case or something. Otherwise, highly recommended.
  12. Well I can't find anyone willing to fit it - asked several watch repair guys if they were prepared to work on a rep and they all said "no". Not for moral reasons, but they felt it was more trouble than it was worth. One said he did some work on a rep last year, and it wouldn't fit back together properly and stopped working etc, etc, and he had all sorts of hassle from the customer. I'll keep looking.
  13. Purchased mine from PT and can highly recommend both the watch and dealer.
  14. I've picked up an ETA Valjoux 7750 datewheel that I'd like to put in my Carrera Chrono rep to improve on the one in there - any tips on doing this? I've never played around with my watch movements before, but am keen to have a bash. I'm not that cack handed, but is this something I can realistically do myself, or would the advice be to get a professional to do it? Cheers Aero
  15. I've got the Carrera with silver hands and the Montblanc with Silver face and its very hard to choose between the two - they both are fantastic reps. If I had to choose, I guess the Carrera just nips it, because its far less chunky and can be worn as an everyday beater if that's what you want. But yeah, silver hands all the way...
  16. I take it that means its just there for show?
  17. I have to agree - this watch is stunning - I'm very pleased with mine. One question I was about to post about the timewalker is what is this "button" on the left hand side of the case for? I have to admit, I've only had the watch a week or so, and only just noticed it! None of my other reps have this. Thanks.
  18. OK apologies for the repeat post, I've asked elsewhere on the board, but I'm no closer to resolving this. I've misplaced one of the crown screws from my 090 rep. These things are tiny. I did source a pair of replacement screws, however they turned out to be too large. Here's a pic: You can see the two larger replacement screws on the left, and the sole correct screw on the right. The one on the right is the one I'm looking for. Does anyone have one of these lying around? or can you point me in the right direction to get hold of one? I assume they are a standard size on Panerai reps. Here's a close up to get an idea of scale if it helps: (two incorrect larger ones on the left, and the remaining correct one on the right). Thanks guys. T
  19. Its the wrong picture they've put up there on the watchpart website - mine's just arrived and its the right one. So, how easy is this date wheel to replace? - is it something I can do myself? Anyone got an idiot's guide? (I'm semi-joking, but I'm prepared to give it a go if the risks are minimal). Cheers T
  20. Quick bump - I managed to order these from Ebay - Ebay Link, unfortunately they are too wide. Please, if anyone can help me source a replacement screw for my 090, I'd be very grateful. Thanks T
  21. Not sure I've got to know anyone that well yet. However I've been pleasantly surprised at just how many normal, decent people there are here - and most are willing to help out, share information and "do the right thing". I've dealt directly with about 8 people here, a mix of dealers and members, and without exception I've found everyone to be decent, helpful and friendly (even when things go wrong - Sash, TTK - good guys). Overall, I was expecting the experience to be the complete opposite given the subject matter, and was in two minds whether to get involved at all. Anyway, long may it continue. T
  22. I joined this forum not long ago, and I have to say I was very surprised at how easy it was to join and start using dealers and such. Not that I'm complaining (I've purchased several reps and learned an awful lot), but as people have already pointed out, persons with a desire to disrupt what goes on here would find it pretty easy to stir things up.
