Hehe - it's hard to find an angle where the crystal is visible with this AR... So is the one on the right yours?
Yup!

Congrats on your vintage Cats, it's all downhill from here at least for your bank account after hunting for gen parts
-
Geez that's crappy Laz, sorry to hear the news, I put my wallet in a jacket pocket often
.
A good reminder -keep your guard up at all times and wallet in your front pocket.
-
Hmmm, one of those 187's looks vaguely familiar
I have to say Chief that your latest AR run is truly unbelievable, it looks like there is no crystal at all!
-
O, your 1655 is the next best thing to a gen
, I never get tired of looking at it! Great shot too!
-
That one looks the same to me!!!!!
Thanks Striker, is that gen in the photo yours? Yes, swapping out the hands really makes huge difference and is a very worthwhile mod.
The date mag is a little too large on my 1655 as the crystal sits higher than on mine compared to a gen 1655. I have to sand the crystal down a little one of these days to fix that
. I'm still quite happy with how it turned out though.

Well I know what I am aiming for.... Thanks toomuchgear!!!
Slart, thanks for the kind words. Your 1655 looks great!

Nice review Storm! Thank you for taking the time to do it. I love the Orange Hand.
A nice mod I discovered if you have the tools & know how or a watchmaker can do for you is replacing the hands with NOS Omega hands that look dead on for the 1655 hands, they're ~$30 at Ofrei and only the minute hand has to be broached a bit to fit an ETA movement. It really makes a big difference!
Here's how they look on my franken 1655

Good points about the 703 crown. I do love the look of the old twinlock and how compact they are compared to the newer crowns. I hope I don't have to replace mine on my Tudor 9401.
It is very true the rule about vintage Rolex is -there are no rules or many exceptions to them...
-
6mm tubes for datejusts fit some of the old twinlock crowns if they have the thinner interior diameter. It's worth a try for few $.

6152 today on a GeF La Spezia strap with a GPF repro buckle.
-
Never tried the watchmaterials offering, but it still has the wrong pearl.
The ones from Classicwatchparts.com is very good and fits a gen lume pearl perfectly. I've also heard the lume pearls from Ofrei look just like the gen.

Nice 1680 Marty! Thanks for sharing.

Monte Carlo tomorrow

My 187 tomorrow; an old stock photo right now -some new pix soon to show off the newly installed AR crystal by Chieftang. Oh and the bezel pearl is fixed!

I'm betting it's from the usual sources for Vietnamese made cases/complete watches.

JJ,
According to Skeet and Urul the 6538 & 5510 are the thicker (200m) cased subs w/ 8mm Brevet crown, while the thin case Bond subs are 5508 and 6536 (100m).
Beautiful watch! I'd like to see more of this project

Mmm, this is lovely and very accurate-looking.
Much better choice Vic than the Silix version.

I say go for it Vic!
Or maybe vintage with the stainless bezel instead of the acrylic
-my wife wears my 6263 on occasion but good luck getting her to hold still for a wrist shot.

Its EL's Upgraded Version and the bezel pearl was redone as it was cracked on arrival.
