  1. My 1st cocktail of choice; a sidecar. If the bartender gives you a puzzled look after orderig one I say nevermind and order a Kettle One with a twist of lemon and tell them to say the word Vermouth when shaking it.

    The perfect sidecar:

2oz of brandy or cognac, it's a mixed drink -don't waste the good stuff on this

1oz of triple sec or cointreau

1oz of sweet & sour mix

    add squeeze of lemon

shake and strain into a cocktail glass with sugar on the rim

float a slice of orange on the top

-add a spash of simple syrup or more sweet & sour to taste for those that find it too potent

Poker night with the guys; I'm pretty happy with a glass of Oban with an ice water on the side.

    Anytime drink; black coffee.

  2. Pure class !

as expected from a bloke like tmg have to agree with freddy on that Tudor comment ... its just in a league of its own !

That said i woud not mind to add any of ure pieces to my own collection ...

    wear them well ... Laz

Very kind of you Laz, thanks!

You don't mind telling me where you got that strap for your speedmaster?

Here you go Bruce NASA Strap. -that's a great choice on a GMT as well.

  3. Phong engraves a serial number on the inside of his casebacks, but that is of no real value to me since I am not planning on selling or appraising my watch. I am only interested in how the caseback looks when fitted on the watch. With proper modding, I think Phong's caseback might do the trick. But I am not sure it is worth the $450 he wants for it. That is the big question...........

    Hi Freddy,

I think yours looks great, I see what you mean about Phong's engraving. But at $450 :g: I'm not so sure either.

  4. The guys are correct, a 1680 dial (~27mm) is too large for an MBK/MBW case (26mm). It has to be trimmed down to fit so you run the risk of chipping the finish :o I've read that one of the members (can't remember who) used a lathe to enlarge the groove for the dial, but that's a whole other level of work.

Another more costly option is to get a Vietnamese made aftermarket case that is made to fit a gen dial.

I was in the same situation with a gen dial and decided I didn't want to cut it down and scrapped that project.

    Good luck!

  6. While my interests tend to lean towards Daytonas, I think that Tudor Monte Carlo is probably the jewel in the crown of your collection. You just do not see many of those around. Me likie.

Freddy, I didn't know you were into Daytonas

Thanks! I'd have to agree, the MC is very special and I love the chunkie "big block" case.

  7. By the way, I own this one since many years....

Damm I like your Tudors, the Chrono looks damm nice,I love it.....

I saw some franken ones from MBW,but they where expensive

Your is fantastic, wear it well Tribal!

The Monte Carlo wasn't cheap either but is so unique and been a long-time favorite watch of mine that I couldn't pass it up.

  8. sorry tmg, i didnt want to say that you bought from them, but from j&w ( my english is bad ) !

thank you for the link, i didnt know ndt was selling cases too, and for a good price. but this doesn't help me, i have too many projects in mind and dont know which one to start first, helppppp !! ( 5513 gilt dial, 5508, 5514.. ?? ) :wallbash::cry::tu:

Pfff, I didn't think you meant from MQ -your English is great! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I know what you mean, I have two other projects (a 5517 & gilt dial 5513) in the works and need to slow down.

  9. Very Nice Tribal, Star and Jetsons! Gen or rep -does it really matter we all share a passion for timepieces and I love seeing them all!

Now back to the subject at hand; did someone say Tudor's... I love Tudors. Some eyecandy with my gen snowflake 7014/0 and franken 7031/0.

  10. tmg -- first, congrats on an excellent project watch -- that is a stunner. second, i am curious to know how closely the date font compares to the gen? is it a custom dw or were you able to source it from j&w.

    :1a:

    WW, thanks for the compliment.

The date wheel is not the same font as the original but looks like a generic one you see in other VJ7734's. I do like that mine alternates a red and black print. I'll have to take a closeup shot soon. I've seen pix of Monte Carlo's with replacement dw's that are a similar plain font, so it doesn't really bother me. I'd rather get the proper 589 or 593 end links on my bracelet for now, 580's are too short and annoy me :D .

This was a completely assembled piece I bought form J&W, so I'm assuming the dw was already with the movement.
