My DW 6263 with a VJ23 heartbeat

Great post Vic, a subject I'm kinda interested in

Hey Nico,
I'm in the middle of working on the same project right now. I've found a printer that has looked at the job and what needs to be done. He can screen, die cut the overlays from either brass or steel and everything. So far, the only hold up for me is gettting him the proper file so he can create the screen. jpg files are of no use as the final output is pixelated. I'm planning on the 3135 to start as finding a proper date overlay is next to impossible. I've been slowly creating a vector file of the scanned disc, and once that is done, I will start getting them printed. It just takes time to get it done. Preliminary costs are estimated at around $25.00 an overlay for a small run. Getting the die for cutting the metal and screen for printing is the most expensive part. I'm sure I could get them printed on vinyl for a lot cheaper, but I've been in contact with other members and they would prefer printing on metal. I have found some hardened steel sheet that is 0.06mm to give to the printer to try out. I'm also looking at the 3035 and 1570. I'm just waiting for a gen 3035 and 1570 that I bought so I can create files for those as well. Those will take a bit more work as the number progression has to be reversed in order to use for ETA overlay.
What are you planning on printing on? Any other members out there who would be interested in some overlays that are printed on metal? My hope is to have them similar to the cubic overlay, nice thin stiff metal, but with the proper size fonts. Anyone else interested?
I'd be in for the metal version
An overlay is problematic with GMT (4 hand styles), a Ubi one would not fit in my 1655 -just not enough clearance in there.

How about a little vintage Explorer II -another project nearing completion

Hi PF,
That sucks! I hate it when projects don't quite come together, believe me I know
It seems most non-MBW sub reps have larger dials. A gen 1680 dial is 27mm+ and 5513 26mm. I had the same issue wanting to put a gen 1680 dial into the MBK/MBW 1680 case (branded 5513 and takes a 26mm dial). I decided I didn't want to risk trimming down a gen dial for what it cost me.

Today
for the weekend, maybe these two:

Opps, I was trigger happy Rosnik -I meant to hit agree.
Surprising, as this seller always lists a bunch of gens and movements.

I exchanged some emails with him about parts a few weeks ago no probem. Once in a while you have to ping him back for an answer but he always replies.

VJ23's are harder to come by than VJ72's. If you hunt enough you can find one between $350-$500. I lucked out and got a very nice one without any branding on the bridge on ebay for $350.
Good luck in your search!

As always very impressive Stephane!

F, nothing wrong with a T-39 Superdome on a Great White. The gen crystal is a thing of beauty, even on a Seiko.
This white gen one was snagged up recently for $13.5K, plus shipping. No flat top on this one.
Sweet, looks like a rail dial too!
-
Uh ?
why not both
I agree Stephane, why does it have to be either or!
Frankly, I'm partial to Red myself.

Nice dial.
How is this project coming along?
Hi Euno,
Still a work in progress and slow at that. I'm hoping it will be completed before the end of the year.
Thanks for asking.

tmg> where can i buy a Rolex crystal replacement for my 1680? thanks
Juca,
I'd check with "Saabin" here on the forum he had some in the member trade area and it's the proper original style with the straight edge, not the replacement beveled version.

Actually it's not. Many years ago, I cobbled together a Benrus Type I dial & hands with a 1990 Gulf War Issue Steel Marathon Navigator. The parts were Bill's
I still want to make a composite-cased version. One day...
Jinx Euno!
I haven't worn my Type I'ish in some time either.

This was purchased from another forum member, pretty sure it's original but unsure if it was modded. It does seems like the surface was brushed again since you can hardly see the pin that holds the lever in place.

5218/201A and 6152 are my favs.
I have to echo what a pleasure he is to deal with; I've bought quite a few parts from him too and he often sends multiples or does it gratis -he knows how to do business!
Can't wait to have his latest version dial dropped in this baby
-
yes I'm covered up to $2000, at fleabay
Try and get your money back ASAP. Good luck, I hope it ends up okay

I grab the closest watch to the door heading out to take one of the kids to a halloween party.
-
The waiting list for these new watches have been insane since the Basel show many months ago.
Rolex will sell them like hotcakes.
But at the same time, Rolex will be selling out on their integrity. Just my opinion, but Rolex really has no respect for their own past anymore. Sad but true.
Don't get me wrong, they are nice models, but in an Omega kinda way.
I hear ya Euno, I still can't get over what Rolex did with the branding on the rehaut
, not to mentioned all the tricky colors on the dials.

Congrats!
