  1. Why cant the solution just be the dealers have to label things correctly from now on? Only list Swiss ETA if it actually is Swiss ETA, etc. This should be encompassing the entire dealers' catalog. This would eliminate the need for individual interpretation of the watch discriptions.
  2. Yes, they are claiming that it was a natural development, but IT WAS NOT. It was deliberate. I have a meeting in 2 minutes, so I have to let this be. Lets just agree to disagree
  3. Its such a stupid arguement, but I couldnt help but ask my neighbor about this (he has a PhD in Lingustics), and he believes samantics to be the natural development and interpretation by classifying and examining changes in meaning and form. If you DELIBERATELY classify something inaccurately, it is not a development in samantics. Rather, it is false rhetoric. Whereas, saying your are "drunk" vs. "[censored]" is a matter of samantics. They are both the same thing, but labeled differently. And, I know you never said it was not deliberate, thats why I brought this up. I cant believe I spent this much time on this haha
  4. Yea, I understand your point, but semantics implies that the distinction between the two is trivial. Like many of the examples given (buying a suit, going to the grocery store, etc), the distinction between the two is not trivial. If you bought a product thinking it was one thing (Swiss ETA), and it turns out to be completely different (Asia Copy), would you say it was just semantics? I contend that the descriptions are not just a different interpretations of meanings; rather, the descriptions are intended to misled to increase sales. They know what they are doing; it is deliberate.
  5. No, its not. If it was simply semantics, the ETA copy would be exactly like a gen ETA, just labeled differently. If they are two completely different products, yet labeled the same, its intended to mislead the buyer.
  6. Like when Republican speechwriters use "Democrat Congress" instead of proper "Democratic Congress."(using a noun when there should be a adjective) They use "Democrat" instead of "Democratic" because focus groups associate "Democratic" with voting, nationalism, democracy, etc.
  7. Interesting, I thought this would be well defined. I seem to refer to the 5 digit model numbers in this order: sixteen, six, ten... like in my original post.
  8. Ive always liked watches, but my interest has only started to peak within the last 6-12 months. I was planning on going to a Rolex AD later this week, and I would like to get a quick clarification so I dont look like an idiot haha. When referring to a model number, like 16610, is it said 16-6-10? or...?
  9. nicely played if Ethel is correct. Any info on this brand on the internet? I couldnt find anything via google.
  10. Nope! Im Goochenbrau and this is the only board Ive really posted on. For the record, I have no clue what kinda watch she is wearing, but she wears it well.
  11. That's Bam Margera (spelling?) and his girlfriend.
  12. I get the impression that the German customs is the toughest in the world, at least for watches. Is that a fair statement?
  13. Thanks for the new background Also, when I first got a sub, the size overwhelmed me, but I got used to it. After wearing a PAM 217 (same size as the 1950 shown above), the sub felt small to me. So from my experiences, Ive noticed that you get used to the larger sizes pretty quickly.
  14. Devedander, did your package go through San Fran customs?
  15. Women look good in Panerai. Dont go with the datejust. Maybe its because my mom wears a gen datejust, but they just seem like something an older woman would wear.
  16. Some of these reps being sold on Ebay are so fake, you'd think the person being ripped off would someday realize it. Is there something this person can do? Report it to ebay? Report it to CC company? Or is the person just out a few grand? I would hate to be ripped off on ebay, but the buyer definately needs to do their homework before bidding.
  17. I have bought the same watch multiple times, but I sell the watch I have before (or during) my purchase of the new watch. I dont really like to have multiple versions of the same watch around, but I will replace a watch I already own.
  18. 1. Datejust 2. Paul 3. I sold it a few months after I bought it.* *EDIT: I just want to clarify that I did not sell it for quality reasons. Basically, I randomly picked one of the $100 watches just to see if it would arrive here because I was still skeptical of the entire rep market.
  19. I agree that you should not call out someone's rep in public, but I did it once while drunk haha. I was at a party and I whispered to my friend "that guy is wearing a fake Rolex." But I was drunk and said it much louded than I thought, and Im pretty sure he overheard. O well, at least I didnt stand on a chair and announce it to everyone
  20. I would guess that the majority of them remain in Asia.
  21. Thanks for all the advice! Im going to try the thumbtack idea later today. I emailed Trusty Time to see if he had any recommendation to remove it, and he offereded me FREE replacement lug screws! Even more evidence that he is the best dealer on the board Go Eagles! :football:
