I am surprised they didn't do better with this watch considering all of the previous IWC's were pretty spot on. I was looking forward to this watch, but didn't realize it had a nylon strap. I would prefer rubber or SS.
gen versions I've seen have the kevlar strap.

Aren't all new reps $300 or more now as a rule? Seems it..
Factory was listing the prototype as 43 mm.
-
The front looks pretty good. However, is that the caseback? I hope not cause its really terrible!
I've been waiting awhile for this one...the prototype was shown on another site a few months ago. Ceramic needs a tad smoother maybe. I'm impressed that they added ceramic to the caseback too, albeit totally different from the gen.

I followed a couple of threads from July/August last year. The summary was that this modified 7750 movement is flawed and unreliable (although not as bad as the seconds at 6).
Six months on, has anyone had experiences, good or bad with this.
Thanks
Richard
it is slightly flawed only...perhaps one one part is rubbing metal vs metal. Mine is still working perfectly after ~ 5 months....as opposed to my sec a 6 which has become sluggish.
I would not hesitate to buy another one at this point.
-
I don't think they made the case big enuf...the inner bezel (tachymeter) is almost vertical....looks bad compared to the gen.
-
anyone know if the shaq is made of steel, or ti? If steel, then its an easy job:-)
i would love a black dial t3 in titanium. Its actually one of the first watches i really got into.
How are the dimensions on the new T3? Close to gen? ...I have a gen grey T3 dial (with superlume) that I'd like to slap in
-
dial problems again...tachymeter should have WHITE #s....the AP text on the dial should be white too. Come on factories....pay attention to the details!

4th generation PO is as close as you can get to gen article. If you want it to be perfect, get it double ARed, swap it with gen hands and perhap get it relumed. I'm sure many PO or UPO owners have done this. By-Tor has a review on this specific model I think. Search button is your friend.
omega symbol and the clasp/bracelet are main faults. consider a gen dial, gen hands, and DAR.

What movement can be put into a RO midsized watch ?
Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks.
JL
any basic ETA 2824 or clone should work provided that your watch was originally swiss...if was asian, you'll have a tougher time of getting the dial back on or replace with an asian movement. Provide some pics and I'm sure more people could help.

I agree... very good case. I really like the crown guards.
Perhaps you could swap the bracelet from the "old school" SMP rep there and put a gen insert on it.
Those mods would finish it nicely.
PS: That Electric Blue is a beauty.
I do love the electric blue and am considering swapping cases...or at least modding the electric blue case further by trimming the crown guards and sticking in a gen tube and crown (there is plenty of material to file down to get that V-shape and the height is about right). But since these cases are so hard to obtain, I always chicken out. Knowing how much the gen costs, I'm also hesitant to pour more money in the SMP reps.

A new purchase just came in the other day from a member over at RG.
As you can see...the He valve position is almost perfect. The crown guards are a huge improvement too. In this case, the CG are superior to my closed factory SMP with correct He placement shown below. A minor flaw is the pearl in which the closed factory has this 007 SMP beaten hands down. Another flaw is the crystal...slight coke bottle effect...not as bad as some other SMP reps but worst than a good blue SMP rep. The bracelet was HORRIBLE...I'm going to have to stick this on a NATO or ZULU or something.
Another advantage is case thickness. The caseback in this 007 SMP reduces the thickness to match that of a gen SMP, although the 007 rep is ~2mm shorter lug-to-lug in comparison to a gen. The 007 even has serial #'s like the closed factory too.
Yes...the 10258 out of 10007 does not make sense...freaken factories need to think on what they are doing sometimes!
the thickness is shown here with the closed factory on top and the 007 on bottom:
Supposedly, this 007 case was briefly available from our trusted dealers at the beginning of 2008. Due to the profile, this is the best SMP rep to date, IMO. It just sits on the wrist much nicer...like a gen. The crystal and pearl can be replaced, making it close to perfect and a super-rep. I was intending on building another franken with an electric blue or black dial but the caseback poses some problems being a limited edition 007. In the end, I'll probably just stick in my spare gen 007 dial or superlume the current dial and stick in a good crystal that has undergone Chief DAR. I only hesitate because the 007 SMP is too close to the blue SMP in appearance.
A quick pic of my sea of love
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the new acquisition.

Marrickvilleboy, those pearls are really nice. Were they modded? Looks like the 007 SMP on the bottom is the best out of the bunch, case-wise.
-
Some1 pointed out that u should push down on the bezel (in the direction of the case) instead of out to remove ROO crystals.
Removing the Rubberclad crystal is no brain surgery. -
My sea of love
I'll take better pics soon...just taking a quick group shot.

nice....but you're missing the electric blue SMP

I just picked up a WBK SMP. Very very nice watch for the money. The HE is incorrect- no matter how its advertised - not correct. But still a very nice watch indeed.
I purchased crystals from watchmaterial and krysworks.
Its funny how WBK said he was comparing his next to a gen and that they were the same...ditto with some RG members...I guess if you want to believe it, you'll see what u want to see...I agree WBK's SMP is a very good value at the price offered.
Can u share pricing info and size for the SMP crytsals?
Krysworks seems like an especially interesting site.

nice project. WBK is supposedly selling a decent SMP asian mov with decent CG and correct HE (albeit still totally off to me).
Where are u getting the sapphire crystal?
-
Greates. Wristshot. Ever!!!
Great news that the AP ROO is so waterproof...being a chrono and all. Nice pics and thanks for sharing.
-
Yellowman has a beautiful one for sale last time I looked.
That one is a nice watch but u might as well get a used gen...unless u only wanted reps in your collection.
-
You from NI too mate?
For some reason, the blue bond SMPs have OK crystals but the black and electric blue have coke bottles...I replaced my black SMP with a spare crystal from a blue SMP and it made a world of difference. Even chief AR only made a slight improvement in the coke bottle crystal in my Electric Blue.

Yes
It can take the bezel insert but the gen bezel is a bit bigger (i've read).
Everything else...yes.

it seems that po 4 th gen is no more produced !
i'm not sure that Trustytime has this watch in stcok
Trusty's watch does not look like a 4th gen....at least the He valve seems a bit off. The 4th gen had really good He valve positioning.
In the asian version, HE valve is totally off....like the SMP situation where the correct He Valve was made and then abandoned for the incorrect He Valve 10 position of today's SMP reps.

Is this Shaquille O'neal AP a fantasy watch or does this version exist?
http://www.watcheden.com/audemars-piguet-s...tch--25262.html
Fantasy. SO's were a limited edition and no PVD versions were made. The gold numbers looks like the arnold allstards which as a gold case and different dial texture.

And I meant, since the cartel case fits the base ETA then the 1120 should fit as well
there has been some discussion that the 1120 is thinner so a spacer is needed. however, i remember some1 putting a 1120 then a gen caseback making the entire watch more similar to a gen with a slimmer profile.

the rep is 42mm....its 44mm if you include the crown guards....and 46-47mm with crown included.
