  1. How was your luck at the end? Didi you mange to completethe AK project?
  2. +1 It looks very good. Well formed lume dots and no visible flaws. Wear it in good health.
  3. yes, sand it off. the rehaut is immediate tell on a noob. looks so much better without it. use search for noobmariner mods. there is a pictorial somewhere on the forum :-)
  4. it may or may not be really swiss. if i was you i'd save the pennies and buy yhe asian 2836 in the first instance. when it dies put yourself a real swiss into it.
  5. +1 for the asian 2836 from timesshop. Good sub at bargain price. sand the rehaut, slightly shave the crownguards and do epoxy mod to the pearl. off you go, near perfect
  6. I have got bad experience with cubic lately. I oprdered white DWO with open 6,9 , waited for 2 months without any communication from sellers side and finally received the silver, closed 6 and 9 DWO. you imaging I wasn't really impressed. However i got the very best experience with JMB so if you can get something from him it's gonna be a much better option. wholesale outlet has not to bad datewheels for 3135 that can be also used as DWO.
  7. Awesome watch. If your GF stops loving it for any reason let me know. I would make a great addition to my collection:
  8. And another 34mm affair :-) Air King 14000M 2002
  9. Spot on Serafino :-) I did a bit of research as well. 1016 was definitely 36mm and the 34mm one was the 5500 explorer. I was wrong on this. This is my 5500 king I am thinking about converting it to 5500 explorer if i manage to get agood dial.
  10. Stunning with that pink strap as well :-)
  11. Absolutely beautiful OP date! Hope she'll treat it well
  12. Thank you so much guys. I ordered a small 4 inches tap wrench ( handle). hope it will arrive soon. Can I just ask about this countersinking operation? Can it be done with some hand tool or a dremel or i should have some other type of tool for that? What is the size of countersink bit required for the operation?
  13. Well done! Great review and lovely noob gmt
  14. Very nice one. I have never before seen that model but like it a lot.
  15. Well done! Superb guide :-) Any tips for countersinking the case for proper tube hight?
  16. Hope someone figured this out yet :-) is there a hand tool that can countersink the noob case to fit the gen type tube at proper hight? Also, what sort of handle do you guys use to run the tap through the threads? Cheers :-)
  17. It may be a matter of pure coincidence but more people commented my watch when I worn the JMB built franken tudor and the Air King then when I worn the super avenger. The old school trend becomes cool again I think :-)
  18. As far as i remeber the gen 1016 exp 1 i have seen years back was 34mm not 36. Were there 2 versions of 1016 or i am starting to loose memory .
  19. totally agree with JMB on this statement. After wearing a 34mm watch for a week you just start to like it more and more :-)
  20. I am really impressed with your collection timeBOMB . Thanks to JMB I got this one last year and love it to bits. It really ignited my interest in small watches: And recently got this lovely vintage Air king:
  21. That crap with tax is really surprising. I paid 48 for the watch (or 108 for the asian 2836) and i usually opted for china post registered airmail which costed 10 usd for one watch or 15 for two. later on they increased registered airmail to 20 usd for 2 watches . they definitely never charged me any tax or so. try to email them and ask for explanation.
  22. I got one and it's worth every penny to be honest. If you sand the rehaut, put the aftermarket bezel insert (jewlery outlet or simillar) and pearl (or do epoxy mod on the pearl) you'll have a hell of a watch for 60-70 usd all together. even better if you go for the asian 2836 version from the same TS that costs 108 usd and do the same mods :-) bracelet edges can easily be softened and then apply dry bike lube. Can't fault it really :-)
  23. i think there is a watchsmith guy in france called wiz ( posting on rwi and maybe even this forum). enjoy your pam :-)
  24. Hi guys and gals (maybe mostly guys in case of super avenger...) I’ve been gathering information, bits and pieces for a super avenger franken build for quite a while now and got all 3 existing reps :complete v1 watch head without the bezel assembly, complete v2 rep with gen dial and complete v3 rep watch plus another dial, complete gen bezel assembly with screws, inner click spring and retainer spring, gen pro1 bracelet and a gen valjoux 7750 movt from a baume and mercier watch and gen 7750 datewheel. I'd really like to hear what do you think would be the best possible combination of case parts from v1, v2 and v3 rep case to crate an ,,ultimate'' case for the Franken SA? So far I learned the following: * V3 case with v2 caseback and gen bezel is believed by quite a few people to be a good option but v3 case seems a little less sturdy than the v1 and v2 due different structure comprising of lower and upper part while the former two are machined out of one metal piece. * V2 is a great overall rep with good bezel, good caseback and good AR but it is notoriously hard to swap the bezel with gen one and it seems to me that v3 has nicer chrono pushers thanV2 and smoother crown threads ( this may just be the case with my V2 and V3). * Now on the old V1 rep. A bare case of a v1 rep looks good to me in terms of taking gen bezel assembly with no further mods but it has crappy caseback without serial numbers, no ar on cystal and a plastic movement retainer ring inside. _____________________________________________ To my semi-layman understanding it would be great to combine v1 bare case +gen bezel assembly + v2 crystal and caseback + v3 chrono pushers and crown/tube assembly. So far I concluded that v2 and v3 casebacks should fit easily on v1 case and that v3 chrono pushers and crown can fit on v1 case. I still don’t know if V2 crystal would fit (or the only choice is to put AR on v1 crystal) and I don’t know if v3 (or eventually gen) crown tube would fit. Also don’t know if metal retainer ring from v2 or v3 would fit v1 case. Now the questions are: Has anyone had experience with fitting v2 and v3 parts on a v1 bare case? What’s interchangeable? Is it possible to remove the v2 crystal without removing a v2 bezel from the case which is known to be a pig of a job? Are the crystals of same thickness and diameter so that could be swapped between v1, v2, v3? Many thanks for sharing your views and thoughts :-)
