  1. Looks great V, now the case matches everything else
  2. ...sacrilage of course, reluming a rare genuine vintage watch is simply foolish. The hands on this 34mm watch are tiny, and what can be seen in pictures that are blown up 100+ times aren't even visible when viewed in person.
  3. Thanks everyone, this certainly is worth keeping. My next step of course will be a complete service from the master.
  4. I'd buy it myself if I didn't already have one. These were selling for $100. I figured someone here may be looking: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230406391054&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  5. For those of you who may have liked my 1530 date, another one has popped up on the 'bay. This one is a little beat up, but will still probably go for 6k.
  6. Great discussion guys. Talk like this is good for the community, as everyone learns.
  7. I agree, although IMO overpriced. Correct crown, correct bracelet, yet rounded case.
  8. Case and dial appear to be gen (dial definitely is). Crown is incorrect for MkIII dial, as it should be a 702/7020 combo. It looks like a later (and again incorrect for a vintage fanatic) triplock crown.
  9. NOT original Ok, that was quick, two things found not to be original within minutes by us. However, it's the second thing that really bothers me. Rolex would never install an incorrect date wheel upon service (correct service replacements were "flat top three" brushed silver date wheels, and later, "flat top three" white date wheels). So... A reasonable person may ask, if this part has been altered, what else? Certainly far from a "perfect" red, and IMO an embarrassment to the seller.
  10. ...anybody find any problems with this "perfect" red sub?
  11. Drilled lugholes are correct for a no-date, and do you actually think you would see a crown at 6 on a real watch?
  12. I agree, I've seen them sell a fake before, and would never buy from them. However, the serial is correct age for a '05. A movement check would answer any questions fast
  13. I agree Alligoat, it is odd. In fact, the caseback has ref 6564 stamped on it, and the movement is definitely a 1030 that still looks new. Serial and Ref between the lugs is confirmed. The dial even has that classic '63-'64 signature
  14. Found this one recently and had to have it... For the few other vintage gen enthusiast here, I'm sure you'll appreciate this little gem. 1,13X,XXX serial, putting production somewhere in the summer or early fall of '64. I think this piece must have spent most of its life in a watch box, because the case is superb, with sharp edges, nice thick lugs, and a rare gloss dial that's to die for. 14k throughout, this 1002 is powered by a 1030 that still sparkles like a brand new movement.
  15. Welcome aboard Jay. Lots of good info here, and the membership has a mix of gen and rep collections. Tell us more about your collection, we'd love to hear. Cheers, JJ
  16. Thanks for taking the time to post up Lani, and I agree, the steel does look a bit brighter.
  17. It will never look as good as a gen because of the different steel; however, you may be able to brighten it up a bit with a cape cod
  18. I've got two gen bracelets FS that are original equipment for GMT's
  19. The chapter ring exclamation dial is the only thing carrying that piece. The rest of it is pretty shot, and the bracelet is wrong. I saw a much nicer 5508 get auctioned in NYC a couple summers ago
  20. Very nice Stephane! One gen traded for another, can't go wrong with that! Cheers, JJ
  21. Nice job, and kudos to the builder and owner!
  22. Mine has a gen T-17. You've gotten this far, might as well get the real thing
  23. You're definitely headed in the right direction. I like the job you did on the dial, it looks great. Is that a Yuki dial?
  24. Nice job so far. Which bezel and crown/tube are you using?
