  1. so it's some aftermarket co that offers them, right? that's a really nitch market and company. do they expect to make much money, modding a gen like that?
  2. paul. that movement will fail in time. you can use $100 difference to buy another one. honestly, it's the same watch anyway.
  3. Andres, Josh's subs (date or no date) have very good rehaut, nice and deep. I hope I don't spoil your excitement about your new sub. The text "Oyster Perpetual" has the wrong font. I actually have been looking for a no date. When I saw Josh's, I was very excited. And then I looked closer, I saw the text. If you can buy Andrew's (Trusty) no date dial, you solve one problem. But Andrew might not sell a dial to you. Paul's (WO-Mart) has big hour market dots otherwise it's good to get. Another problem your watch has is it has the wrong bezel. The bezel teeth should be longer and pointier which I just learned that date and no date use different bezels. I don't know how to solve that one. But you (and I) can probably live with it. gen no date: gen date:
  4. you fixed it faster than I can notify you. The new look is great. I was gonna tell you I had to highlight all the text to read it. Non-issue now. Thanks.
  5. I won't be buying sub no date or sd soon then since all these reps use sub date bezel.
  6. than sub date? Can sub experts enlighten me please? gen sub no date: gen sub date:
  7. Exactly my feeling. Rep collecting+modding=one wicked hobby. Thank the Chinese for leaving out so much room for improvement on the reps, creating this hobby that sucks up so much money and time and gives so much pleasure. It will go down in history as the fifth Chinese great invention.
  8. Pardon my honesty. 15 pounds is nothing but I wouldn't wear it if I were you. For explorer II, the bezel is everything and the bezel on yours is way off, the numbers are too thin and the little triangles need to be a lot closer to the center. Anybody who knows the explorer II will spot it a mile away. Please don't take offense.
  9. Paul has 2 versions of ETA sub. My recommendation is don't get the so called perfect sub. Get his W-748 instead. My formula: 1) get Paul's W-748 (Josh, Angus, Ruby, Silix, Belial2k, etc. sell the thing). It has a thicker crystal and a better crown. And most of all it has a truly deep rehaut. . I have one of these. Check out the rehaut. That's very good compared to the gen's. Mine: Gen: The so-called perfect sub is the same thing as the noobmariner except it has a ETA. I have the noobmariner. The rehaut is way too shallow, the crown is too big, the crystal is too low. Look at the left pic: 2) W-748 has a couple of flaws - the date window is too far right. So get a dial and a date wheel of the Noobmariner or Paul's so-called perfect sub or Andrew's sub or EddieLee. The dial should be $8 to $30. The date wheel is $10 to $20. 3) W-748's cyclop has too much magnification. So replace it and of course line it up right. RBJ can do this. Not expensive. 4) optional: while you have RBJ change the cyclop, have him do a partial or complete CG reshape. 5) optional: get a new insert $25 to $60 for an aftermarket, more for gen. It'll be one killer sub with what's being offered by our dealers today. W-748 is a good platform. MBW may be better but god knows where to get it now.
  10. Jinkay, but the gen's also angled. Here's a pic of my coworker's tt sub. Maybe it's not angled as much, but it's not straight. Look at mine's rehaut, I think it's pretty close to the gen's. Another advantage mine (Josh' model) has is what By-Tor's review on Noobmariner pointed out how the crystal should blend with the rehaut. Noobmariner has a clear line between the rehaut and crystal while the gen and mine sort of have them merged. mine: gen:
  11. This might help answer "who has the best sub". I'll tell you at the end of this post (1) EddieLee, Trusty (Andrew), WO-Mart (Paul's sc-called perfect sub) have one model. This model is almost perfect. Many say it is the same watch as the noobmariner but has an ETA. It has the best dial, hand set, date mag, correct date window and cyclop placement. The CGs is over-done though. It's actually too thin and pointy at the tips which I don't know if there's room or enough metal left for CG reshaping. The crystal is a little thin (not sitting high enough from the bezel). The weakest department is the shallow rehaut. From my noobmariner, the rehaut is probably 1.6mm. 1.8 mm tops. (2) Perfect Clones (Josh), PureTime (Angus), Belial2k, Silix (Jay & Angel), Ruby, WO-Mart (W-748) have another model. Look at all their dials. Don't they look the same? Look at the text. E.g. the spacing for the text "Submariner" is more than that in the other model's. This model falls short on the date window which is too large too squarish and too far to the right. The cyclop is of course too far to the right also and its mag is too much, more like 3x. BUT, the rehaut is excellent, excellet. I haven't seen a MBW but I have one of these and the rehaut is much deeper than the other model, very nice. The crown too. The CG is a little oversize but the good part is, compared to the other model, it has room for reshape. "Who has the best sub". Here's my formula: take the case+crown from Josh's model, move Trusty's dial+crystal+date wheel over => you have the best sub. Let see the cost $149 (Paul's) + $139 (Paul's W-748) = $288. Also get a bezel insert ($10-60) and reshape the CGs ($120??). Total: $418 to $468. Oh, you'll have a spare ETA and a good set of hands. If only the dealers sell parts. Eddie's sub: Trusty's sub: WO-Mart's so-called perfect sub: Rehault of noobmariner (left). It's the same watch as Eddie's and Andrews' with an Asian movement. Compare that to the other model's. WO-Mart (W-748) Look at the deep rehault. Much deeper. Josh's sub: Angus' sub: Belial2K's sub: (Belial2K seems to have reshaped the CG. Like it or not, that's personal taste. The pic shows the deep rehaut nicely) Silix's Ruby's
  12. I have the SS version w/ white dial black numerals. It's one of the best reps you can get. You don't really need to mod it. How close to the real thing? The crown is slightly bigger. The one w/ white dial black numerals have the fonts a tad too thin. The black dial seems to have the right thickness. But then again, FM has so many versions of this watch. There's no straight right or wrong. Nobody is able to call it out. The good thing about FM reps is unlike Rolexes, there are so many models and they are not so well known. I like them because of FM's unique aesthetics. As for quality, it's very very very nice. The bracelet is nice and smooth and solid. It wears so comfortably unlike Rolex reps. I got mine in GuangZhou for $90. Our dealers want too much for it. But if you don't have a choose, buy from them. It's very high quality. Much better overall quality than my TTK noobmariner, Trusty Explorer II, IWC GST Ti Chrono, Wo-Mart DateJust, Explorer I.
  13. Same place. GuangZhou is only 1 hour from ShenZhen. Consider going there to shop for reps instead of ShenZhen. Do a search for GuangZhou here and at RWI.
  14. Yikes. I hope it's not epoxy or something strong like that.
  15. I just bought Andrew's explorer II. The bezel was installed a little off. I need to turn it counter-clockwise a bit. Can someone tell me how to pop it out and place it back? Thanks.
  16. I got my Explorer II from Andrew (Trusty's) today. Ordered Dec 6, got it Dec 12 from China to California. Impressive. The watch is even more impressive. It's not without flaws but overall it's unbelievable. It's so good it should illegal. Wait, it is illegal As an ex-Explorer II owner, this piece really pleases me. I don't how they did it, the movement (modified 2836-2) has the same hand stack and adjustable hour hand that adjusts in one-hour increments. The bezel is just like the real thing. The brush and the number prints are just right. The crystal sits sufficiently high from the bezel. A tad more will be perfect but I'm not gonna complain. The flaws: the bezel is slightly off clockwise which can be fixed by re-aligning it. Anybody knows how to remove the bezel? Another flaw is the hour-minute hand relationship. When it's on the hour, the hour hand doesn't line up straight with the hour marker. Anybody knows if this can be adjusted? The CGs and crown can be better but again I'm not gonna complain. Andrew, this watch is awesome. Here are the pics:
  17. was reading history of Rolex, here're some tidbits about Rolex, pretty impressive: - founded by the German Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis (don't know if he's German though) in England in 1905, Wilsdorf & Davis was the original name - moved out of England in 1912 to Switzerland - Rolex was officially registered as company name in Nov 15, 1915 - innovations - 1st waterproof watch case - 1st wristwatch w/ a date on the dial - 1st watch to show 2 time zones - 1st watchmaker to earn chronometer certification for a wristwatch - holds the record for most certified chronometer movements in wristwatch category - 1st company to create a truly waterproof watch - made a special watch that went as deep as 11,000 meters in the water
  18. PO orange with orange strap, that's the only way I will wear a PO orange. They are meant to be together :-) I don't care if I have gay taste. Not that there's anything wrong with being gay.
  19. I'm considering putting a 2893-2 in a Andrew (Trusty) Explorer II (hour-hand adjustable). I found from an earlier post that someone sells the needed hands at Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/WATCH-HANDS-FOR-MENS-G...1QQcmdZViewItem My questions are: 1. are those hands at Ebay correct for Explorer II? 2. seems like the hand stack of 2893-2 is not like the gen's. Looks like GMT-Hour-Min-Sec instead of Hour-GMT-Min-Sec on the gen. 3. I can keep my crown and tube, right? Thanks.
  20. Wow, I never seen such good pics of DSN's watches. They make me have even better valuation of DSN's stuff. I love the CG in particular. No other dealers have correct moden H CG.
  21. Is it really true that Paul's, Andrew's, or Eddie's are the same watch as Neil's except for the movement? From pics (the latest pics), I at least see TTK's bezel pearl looks diff from the rest. Can others attest?
  22. the watchsmith in GZ told me he uses 2 diff kinds. so doesn't sound like he follows ETA standards.
  23. here they are (not the best pics. PM me if you want better ones. I'll do it by request).
  24. For parts, ask around. I was able to get ETA sub hands, a complete Explorer I without a movement inside, crystals. Read the same thread at RWI. I have all the stall numbers and the watchsmith's info. Yes, the guy I got the Ti GST has SS version too. Same price. Speak Mandarin at all times if possible. If they think you're not from China, they ask for more, sometimes.
