  1. YM fake. Crown teeth not sharp, date window too big and squarish and too far right, along with cyclop having too much magnification. -bm
  2. That's Thailand, right. Oh I want to go back there again. One of my favorite places on earth. Beautiful beaches, beautfiul women, excellent food, excellent massages. -bm
  3. it's a good 1st sub. It's the same as the noobmariner or nymphomariner with a ETA. For $149, it's excellent value. With the mods mentioned, you probably never want to or need to upgrade. But that's provided that your eyes don't get too sharp. -bm
  4. here's where the picture comes from http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tre...79731&rid=0. I look at it and say: is that a gen? how come the font of "YACHT-MASTER" is so thin? Every gen pic I've seen has the bold font. This guy is posting on a gen forum. I don't know. -bm
  5. the $188 version is very good already. It has a ETA which don't need to service before wearing. If you want waterproof, just seal the caseback with some silicon sealant and tighten it. -bm
  6. I'm adding: low crystal, crystal doesn't merge with rehaut, flat pearl, bezel teeth lacks definition. -bm
  7. I got the pepsi one and like you said it's very decent looking. I ordered the red/black as well. Besides the GMT inserts, their black sub insert is pretty good too. The print is very nice. The numbers are crisp and square. The bars (at 5, 15, 25, 35, 45, 55) are edge to edge. The pearl is round and recessed. The color is a little on the yellow side though, a little white/pearl nail polish can fix that. -bm
  8. that's not a gen? I'd say it's a gen. I've never seen a crown that high on the case. Maybe that's the mod. LOL. The bracelet looks suspect. The sides of the links should be polished not brushed. -bm
  9. Hi Rob, Just saw shultz sale of GMT and learned that you serviced the correct hand stack movement. I have one of those movements which is giving me problems. The hour hand is slipping. It losts it proper position. When I advance it, it still goes in increments. Sometimes I can set it right and it runs fine for a couple of hours. And then it will slip and lose its position again. Do you think this movement can be fixed or modified to be more reliable, e.g. getting rid of the one hour increment and let it adjust freely? Thanks. - bm
  10. at least one of the reasons. I was looking at TwoTone's rep vs gen thread and saw the gen blue TT crystal shot. Thought I post this thread to share with everybody. Here's a gen. Look at the crystal height and how it's beveled Here's my TW Best (MBW achieves the same). Pretty close, uh? The other versions just not quite there. -bm
  11. Not a bad one. The bezel looks good except for some smudges on 24 and 2. You should be able to clean that off. It is a GMT hand adjustable (incorrect hand stack) so it should be more reliable than the hour hand adjustable. The GMT hand pin hole metal isn't too fat, that's good. The crown is of correct shape. The flaws: - triangle on GMT hand is wrong, the edge is too thick. Don't bother with it - the date window and cyclop are too far right, the cyclop mag is too high. Don't bother with it. - CGs need reshaping, sand the bottom of the U all the way to the edge of the bezel so the crown sit right at the bezel edge (of course shorten the stem). After that you should have a very good-looking and reliable Explorer II. - bm
  12. I second that. Waste of time. Pug's right. Only reason sb does sth like that is a smartass from some gen board. He's probably laughing his ass off at those forums. -bm
  13. one more: he didn't mention he sanded down each bezel teeth to make it pointier (note between every 2 teeth, the U is a wider U. He had to sand every U down to achieve that) or maybe he didn't mention he got a gen bezel and somehow managed to fit it on the rep case. -bm
  14. The amazing part is he could raise the crown without mentioning he changed to a thinner movement. The alpha and just about any other rep have a lower crown position while the gen has a centered crown position on the sub (seadweller has even a higher crown position). It's because the deeper rehaut of the sub and the thickness of the movement (most sub reps use 2836. Had the factories use 2824 or 2892, they have a chance to center the crown on the case). Look at the 2nd pic, though blurry, you can see the crown is high. See how much closer it's to the the bezel compared to any other sub reps. How did he achieve that he didn't change the movement? And how did he re-drill the crown hole with the existing one low in the case? He had to fill the old hole and drill a new one. How's that possible? I'd like to learn that. -bm
  15. - it's a correct hand stack GMT II pepsi from Paul ($193 shipped), Andrew and EddieLee have it too (~$250 shipped) - very good visually except inside of CGs needs slimming, crown is not the right shape, bezel's not very good looking and toy-like action (teeth not sharp, bottom too thin while side too thick - not really big deal to most people but I have a good bezel that I can put to use) mods: - shave the inside of the CGs - replace the crown - replace the bezel. Since the cn sub bezel leaves a bigger gap from the case than the original bezel, I had to re-bend the retaining wire to fit the bezel tight on. With the bigger gap, the bezel can be popped out by hand. The cn sub bezel's bottom gears (for the click mechanism) were all shaved so the bezel can sit flush on the case. So there's no clicking. Not perfect but ok by me. - mill the stock insert look at the cn sub bezel, very sharp teeth, much better shape than the stock bezel the stock dial, date window, date font, cyclop mag, hands are top-notch inside of CGs skinnier now crystal sits nice and high hand removable bezel buyer beware: the correct hand stack version (hour hand adjustable), though looks good, has a suspect movement. You might consider the incorrect hand stack version (GMT hand adjustable) from Andrew. It's the exact same watch with a different and more reliable movement. -bm
  16. http://www.fredawatchstraps.com/ The Hirsch Liberty's look really good for $31.49. http://www.fredawatchstraps.com/hirlib.html -bm
  17. how much did you steal this gen for? -bm
  18. It's from Paul. $179+14 WU fee=$193. It's the correct hand stack version. You're right. The bracelet and SEL are perfect. Besides, the date window is correctly positioned, the cyclop mag is correct. Andrew and Precious Time also carry the same watch with the incorrect hand stack which is a more reliable movement. -bm
  19. Everything looks good on the correct hand stack GMT except the bezel is ugly and the crystal sits low above the bezel insert. Look bezel teeth has no definiton. Totally not sharp: side too thick: compare to this bezel from an old cn sub. Teeth are sharp, side not too thick. It's a thinner, better-looking bezel: But the original is a wider bezel. There's too much clearance between the sub bezel and the watch. What to do? Actually this extra clearance is what makes the bezel hand removable. Rebend the retainer wire to a pentagon: Also to make the sub bezel sub flush with the case, bend the wire this way so it pulls the bezel down to the case: I also have to shave off the click mechanism gear on the bottom of the sub bezel otherwise it won't fit on the case. You're right, no more clicking. I can live with that: Retainer ring in: Insert in (I could have glued it in now but I haven't. So bear with me it doesn't sit flush on the bezel): Pop in the bezel by hand. Turn it a little to make sure it sits squarely: Check the fit. Looks good and tight. Note the crystal sits high because it's a thinner bezel: To remove, just pop the bezel by hand: Bezel's out. Ready to switch to another look. Just make a couple other bezels with Red/Black and all Black inserts. 3 watches in 1. How do you like that? -bm
  20. I have this sub too. It's a better bezel than my noob's, with longer teeth that are less angled down. But the teeth are irregular, some fatter, some skinnier. It's like fat, fat, thin, fat, fat, thin... I thought it's only mine but I checked a couple others and now yours. That sucks. -bm
  21. Your sub is one of these Eddie's/Andrew's/Paul's so called/Precious Time's/noobmariner/beginmariner/nymphomariner. This watch's bezel does have the problem you mentioned, i.e. short bezel teeth. But you can't replace it with other cn bezel because the construction is totally different. Another thing is the bezel is super difficult to remove. I tried and still couldn't. Others have but ended up bending it. Anyway, forget your idea and be happy with it. If you want perfect, get a MBW or TW Best and mod it. Looks like you got a gen bezel insert or a damn good replacement already. You can save it for your MBW or TW Best. Hope you are happy with my "massage". -bm
