  1. the bezel is from a cn sub that costs $30. I just use the bezel. -bk
  2. I think the correct hand stack GMT is visually the closest to gen (I got mine from Wo-mart Paul). The dial (notice the minute markers don't touch the rehaut but not too far away from the rehaut unlike Josh's $208 version. The text is excellent as well), date window position, date window shape and size, cyclop mag power, and the amazing, correct hand stack (from the bottom and up: hour-GMT-minute-second). The hour hand even adjusts in one hour increment. I had problems with the movement before when the hour hand can slip, i.e. stops for 1, 2, even several hours. I found that if I keep turning the minute hand and let the hour hand gear re-engage, it can go back to normal. I only did that once and it hasn't given anymore problem. All in all this is a known problem and currently this movement is out of stock and the watch is not available yet. Here's my modded correct hand stack GMT. I sanded the inside of the CGs and I replaced the bezel to one with better teeth and as a result I can change the bezel insert with any tools. I just pop the bezel by hand and change the insert to any one of the 3 colors: This same watch is available in a incorrect hand stack configuration. It's a compromised look because of the hand stack order and the fat rim of the GMT hand. Josh's expensive version uses a true GMT movement 2893-2. The look is not good IMO. Too many visual flaws. -bk
  3. I've exchanged a few emails with watchmaker9 George. He said he originally wanted to use 2892-A2 but gave up and went back to 2836-2 because the cost would be too high. Bottom-line is it's a compromised sub rep with lower crown position and altered CG shape. -bk
  4. this version isn't the hour-hand adjustable one. It's the GMT-hand adjustable. I don't think it goes in increments like the hour-hand adjustable. -bk
  5. cannot agree with you, yellowmen. mbw esp. the older case is very close to gen except for the crown flaw and no it's not that noticeable. The wearer can feel it because it scratches your hand. But straight down or at a quarter-view angle, it's very very hard to tell. You really have to stare at it from the side. the mbw has near gen like rehaut (depth and thickness), crystal height and bevel, bezel thickness, bezel teeth (only the old bezel, the new bezel has teeth cuts that are too deep on the top), bezel clicks. it needs other refinement (like a noob dial, bracelet, insert). but when done, it's really near-gen like the newer reps as much as the BB is near its gen (well, may not be at the level of IWC CD). -bk
  6. still on my transformer GMT: -bk
  7. exactly, rehaut thickness, only the MBW/TW Best and the noobmariner got that down. -bk
  8. TTK's MBW 16610 has similar bezel assembly like in 316L's pics: Eddie Lee's is a ETA noobmariner. I couldn't pop the bezel to look but I heard it also has a ring plate under the bezel for the click mechanism. -bk
  9. will be end to to "who has the best sub" -bk
  10. holy cow, top notch, the CGs are about the best i've seen reps. congrats. -bk
  11. GMT2 and EXP2 are running like a charm now. -bk
  12. @ekhunter: yours is a smart way to improve the pearl 'cause that resembles the pearl construction. for those who haven't read my 16610 buying guide on rwi, I extracted the pearl section here: Insert Pearl I put insert pearl in its own section because it's such an important signature of the sub. Most people don't know the construction of the insert pearl since it's so small. What makes up the look? So for the 1st time, insert pearl fully disclosed. At an angle, the pearl seems to fill the ring edge to edge. But this spherical edge-to-edge thingie is just a shinny, clear cover. Under the cover, the real white pearl sit recessed inside the ring. This is why the pearl looks recessed but look at it from angle it's not. This little known construction is what makes it look like it does. It confuses the hell out of our rep makes. Or do they actually care? Some pearls are pretty funny-looking. The Zit The Flat-top Don't pick a sub rep by the pearl though. The pearl can be fixed but something like rehaut cannot. You can replace the pearl with a watchmaterial pearl which has the same construction as the gen but of course not perfect (pearl is slightly yellowy but at normal distnaces, it really looks like the gen. -bk
  13. this is exactly the version I was telling everybody about that I found it in China. I also said it's been carried by EL, Angus for the ETA version, and TTK for the Asian version. I like the Asian version better because it uses a more correct blood red color second hand. The ETA version feels a bit heavier because of the movement. Either version is a great watch, the best YM rep there is. I picked up a few for some members and friends and they were awed by the quality. -bk
  14. i was too automatic when i saw the post. my critique was uncalled for. pretty stupid. I have a 1st gen VIPmariner dial, a noobmariner datewheel, and a correct mag cyclop. With them, you can fix the date window flaw. You can have them for free. It will be a totally awesome sub. Somebody did that mod before and the watch looks great. This is an improvement. I hope this doesn't stick with you as your watch being imperfect and a thone to you. All subs are imperfect. Modding them is a lot of fun and satisfying. PM your address to me. -bk
  15. excellent rollies. they are both from the same factory. the so-called perfect sub is essentially a ETA sub. the incorrect hand stack exp2 is very good looking and movement is more reliable. great choices. -bk
  16. tw best's stock bezel insert is more conical than gen's or any aftermarket ones that are spec'd like the gen's. So if you get a decent replacement insert, bingo, instant crystal height. Like jetson said reinstall the stock insert after milling it will give more height as well. The important thing is make the insert sit flush to a little recessed in the bezel because tw best or mbw don't come with insert sitting properly in the bezel. so you almost always need to "clean up" the insert. as far as your bezel doesn't stay down, it's just a matter of not pushing the bezel far enough in. the tw best doesn't have a wire retaining ring otherwise you could bend it to make it pull the bezel down. but tw best's fit quality is very high. if you push the bezel properly all the way in, it should be flush on the case. -bk
  17. if i came across as overbearing, sorry about that. of course you didn't ask for a review, i shouldn't have given one. i'm not on a mission. i helped many people on this and other boards pick and mod rollies. there are a lot of tells beyond the usual: etched crown, pearl, CGs (btw, who cares about hologram). if you knew them, you wouldn't have bought this one. oops - uninvited critique again. i guess i'm not welcome to share my knowledge. same to you, it's just a watch. obviously you were offended by my critique. you cool it too. anyway, 99% people won't be able to call this one out. enjoy your sub, my friend -bk
  18. my guess 2893 is a typo (yes, the link from the review brings to a page that says 2893 modified, then clicking on Globemaster on the left pane brings to a page that says 2836 modified). I trust that John Holbrook won't mistake a 2836 for a 2893. John owns the rolexreferencepage website btw. -bk
  19. Check this out, http://www.rolexreferencepage.com/Globemas...lobemaster.html. A $429 gen GMT watch with a modified 2836-2. I think it's a pretty handsome watch. -bk
  20. alligoat's right, the bezel is very hard to remove. I've heard only one person (forgot who) did it but he bent it. I tried myself and damaged the bezel so it doesn't turn anymore and I got 5 stitches on my finger. One way to remove the insert it go from behind, i.e. pop the crystal to get to the insert. Of course you need the right tool to pop the crystal and press it back. -bk
  21. fine. withdrawn. -bk
