  1. I do not like to burst a buyer's bubble when they are happy with their purchase. But since you asked for input, I would avoid wearing this watch around anyone who knows what the real thing (or an accurate secs at 6 rep) looks like. And while you are awaiting your new watch's arrival, you might want to check out some gen Daytonas at your local AD or rolex.com & compare those with your picture.
  2. No offense, but your description of the story does not sound like 1 of our usual collectors. Generally, if they send the wrong watch (which happens on occasion), they will exchange it for the 1 you ordered (though some may ask you to pay the return shipping). But without knowing who the collector was, there is not much more I can offer.
  3. If someone will be sharing this particular 'gift' with you, I think this should tide them over for the next several Christmases. Love to see before & after pics (with some wristies) once everything is completed. Good luck.
  4. Thanks.
  5. Great collection & a good reason to stay indoors during the holidays. Smaller pics would be welcome.
  6. Someone recently asked me why I call my DRSD my daily beater? The reason - because I wear it nearly every day & daily wear takes more of a toll on a watch than occasional wear. Thus, daily beater. And today (Thursday) is no exception
  7. Chronograph (stop watch) movements are complex &, therefore, 1 of the most expensive to service. Additionally, it is likely that some of the more delicate components (like the balance) were damaged & will need to be replaced, which only adds to the expense. Because of this, it is probably cheaper just to replace the movement (Search the For Sale/Trading forums here or ebay for an Asian seconds at 6 7750 movement) or the entire watch (check out Perfect Clones or TrustyTime in the Collectors forums for the best out-of-the-box 1165xx Daytonas). Keep in mind, also, that there is a better than 50% chance that your gift was less than top quality, regardless of its purchase price (though, if you post some good, clear pics of the dial, case & caseback, I (or someone) might be able to qualify this further). This might also be of interest.
  8. While I agree completely that alot of initial Deepsea buyers are now having buyer's remorse & selling their watches, I think that many of the about-faces (as were many original Deepsea purchases) on TZ were a direct result of Dowling's recent, long-awaited FINAL review of the Deepsea, wherein he said 'the watch is not for me'.
  9. Because they sell so many different models (with varying dimensions), it could go either way. I found that my MBW as well as a Vietnamese caseback fit a couple of cheap reps that I worked on, 1 of which may have been from Andrew or Josh. So while I cannot guarantee anything, it may be worth a try.
  10. The dial is so-so (not terrible, not great), the caseback IS terrible (search Timezone or google for a gen to compare), the date is not centered in the date window & I do not know what the Helium escape valve on the side of the case (near 9 o'clock) looks like. All in all, it looks like an average rep - not terrible, not great. Certainly not a genuine Rolex.
  11. If you have the wazzoos, you are The Man.
  12. Click this & I could cite dozens of similar examples bucking the urban legend that suggests the vintage Rolex market has crashed.
  13. Good point (which I missed). The 3035-powered 160xx was fitted with either, depending on the year of manufacture. But I am pretty sure that all later 3135-powered DJs have closed datewheels.
  14. Even though it is gold (tt), it is a stunning piece of work. Any idea of the source for the open 6 datewheel?
  15. I could be wrong, but this is what I based my assumption on -- --- resolving host "luxury-mall.com" luxury-mall.com [69.64.33.242] --- performing WHOIS on "69.64.33.242" OrgName: Hosting Solutions International, Inc. OrgID: SERVE-6 Address: 710 North Tucker Blvd. Address: Suite 400a City: Saint Louis StateProv: MO PostalCode: 63101 Country: US NetRange: 69.64.32.0 - 69.64.63.255 CIDR: 69.64.32.0/19 NetName: S4Y1-NET NetHandle: NET-69-64-32-0-1 Parent: NET-69-0-0-0-0 NetType: Direct Allocation NameServer: NS1.NAMESERVERSERVICE.COM NameServer: NS2.NAMESERVERSERVICE.COM Comment: http://www.server4you.com RegDate: 2003-07-30 Updated: 2004-04-29 So Andrew/Josh have their sites hosted in St. Louis, Missouri? Seems unlikely, but I guess anything is possible.
  16. A couple close-ups of the gen date window And a close-up of the dial fonts
  17. This brings up a good point & 1 that is equally relevant to discussions of the GMTIIC. The crystal on gen modern Rolexes always sits just slightly above the plane of the bezel, not even with it as is often the case on 'perfect' or 'copied from the genuine' reps. Just something to consider.
  18. Make of this what you will, but if you look like you need the job, you are far more likely to get the job (assuming you have what the potential employer is looking for). Of course, there are exceptions like high end sales (real estate, planes, yachts, etc). But, for the most part, when the person sitting in front of me is wearing expensive jewelry, I assume they do not need the job.
  19. Interesting story, T. I latched onto the big watch fashion trend early on in 2000 with my 1st Pam. But, almost immediately, I began feeling like I was wearing something out of a Dick Tracy comic book that shouted 'Hey Everyone.........Look at my BIG WATCH' every time I entered a room. So, after buying a 2nd Pam (thinking that the discomfort might have stemmed from my not having sufficient Pam-variety, which ultimately proved not to be the case), I sold both (along with my other clunker, an Audemars Royal Oak) & decided that classic-sized watches -- whether trendy or not -- are more my cup of tea (I prefer that people see me before they see my watch).
  20. I went classic today
  21. As far as I know, luxury-mall has no connection with Andrew/Josh, so if your credit card was charged by that site (& you never purchased anything from them), I would have your bank do some further checking to see who placed the charge on your credit card. Keep in mind that 1 person may own several (or dozens) replica sites, each with a different name & selection of goods. So, sometimes, it takes some detective work to find out who owns the site name that appears on your credit card bill when you actually bought your rep watch from a site with an entirely different name when both sites are owned by the same person.
  22. The divers I know (only 2 actually) both told me long ago that serious divers all wear dive computers & if they wear a watch at all, they always wear a quartz digital for a variety of reasons - not the least of which is that you would be crazy to risk damaging such an expensive (& relatively inaccurate) piece of jewelry on a dive when a cheap Casio does a much better job & offers alot more useful features. Apparently, unlike the 50s, 60s & 70s, to wear a Rolex on a dive today is akin to taking a gold plated hammer to work as a carpenter - people do not take you seriously. So, to answer your 2nd question (which I assume was rhetorical anyway) 1st, I would guess that no more than 2 of these watches will ever see duty beyond a chlorine swimming pool or a champagne-tinted day at a resort (1 SDDS will fall off a yacht & the other will be stolen by pirates & go down with their ship when the Saudis finally decide they want their tanker back). When I tried a gen on at an AD a couple of months ago, the bracelet-to-watch size differential did not bother me, but I thought the entire thing was just too big & clunky to be worn with anything other than a wet (clown) suit. Just not my taste at all. But I can certainly appreciate the technology & design behind it. So, like I said after seeing 1 for the 1st time, I have a space reserved in 1 of my cases for a nice SDDS to gather dust in.
