  1. Most excellent, thank you gplracer. As for the 7750, I am curious if I need the 'native' config, or something special. This dial has the date indicator, but not the day indicator. So, is that a 7750 or some variant like a non-native 7750, a 7753, etc?... I know the experts here will know. thanks - J PS Does the gpl in your username refer to the 'Gnu Public License' or something else? PSS This forum nrings me back to my BBS/Archie/Relay/Newsgroup days. (Yes, I'm old. I got 'lucky' via NYU relay chat on the VAX chat at my university. Older geeks here may relate to this) PSSS Installing Linux does not make you a geek!
  2. Is an ETA 7750 movement what I need? A Valjoux 72(x) ? Etc? I need to know this to proceed with my build, as I am working off my gen dial and hands. Thanks folks - J
  3. Justin, The dial I have is Tudor part # 13/79160-17 with the words LUMI U-07 written underneath that. The hand parts numbers with the digit underneath them are as follows; V14-9241 1 V15-9421 1 V15-9426 3 The dial measures 1.141 (my dial reads inches) which converts to 29mm. Do you know if this dial will work with the 7750 'native' you mention, or will this require a non-native arrangement? Last, which case do you have available? Source/ref. #. Thank you, J
  4. I've received my gen Tudor Chrono hands and dial, so now I'm on the hunt for a good Daytona style case in which to house this. I need a movement that has the proper spacing for a Tudor Chrono, and the case must then fit this movement properly. I would also like to assure it has the pusher spacing which is correct for the Tudor, which I'm not sure is symmetric or asymmetric like the Daytona. Can someone please fill me in on; What movement to use? And, with that movement, what is a good choice for supplier? Yuki, DW, etc...? Thank you, J I should also mention that the gen dial I have is a Price Date with 3 chronos dials. It does have the date, therefore, the movement/case should support the date function.
  5. I now realize there are no case replicas for the ref. 94300, 791x0 or 792x0 Tudor chronos. I am looking for something acceptable that will both resemble the Tudor case (big block Oyster) and fit my gen Tudor dial and hands. I am hoping a case that fits an A7750 exists, since Valjoux 72 are so expensive. Please name the source as well, as I want this to be a good looking piece. Thanks - John
  6. Mark Sanchez, NFL quarterback is on the cover wearing a nice LV.
  7. their ads come up alongside these and other boards for me all the time. I've been through the site extensively and like their watches. They have the Tyndall and the Stinson. For $1k, about the cost of a modded high end rep, you can get a Calilfornia designed gen watch, and no one else around you will have one. - J
  8. PBDad is a bespoke watchmaker. He will modify any watch you supply him. He has a public address listed on this site and does not supply counterfeit parts or watches. If you want a watch that never existed, he can create it for you. If you want your watch to have a 'look', he can do that for you. He is not a supplier and you can not buy anything but services from him. Just thought I should clarify that. The man is an artist. -J
  9. ouch.... ok, thank you = J
  10. OK, thank you super. Do you know if the diameter is larger as well? Would anyone know where to source a rep for this case? thanks - J
  11. I am hoping to upgrade the maxi dial on my LV to gen. Anyone know where I could source one and what I should expect to pay? Also, is 'maxi dial' generic, meaning, will a cermic sub maxi dial just fit in my LV? thanks - J
  12. Thanks Much Steve. You guys are all right. I hope to pay it forward when I can as well. Have a good Labor day weekend - J
  13. Ephry, I have no idea. I searched a bit to find a drawing or dimensions and came up blank. That was for the Tudor. I was assuming the Daytona dimensions would be easier to locate. - J
  14. OK, so I've had a bit of schooling on the 79160, 79170, 79180 bezel differences, along with some good info on the same variations in 792xx reference line. So, I'm basically decided that I would like to replicate the 79160 with porcelain white, silver or linen dial with black sub-dials. I've seen this case referred to as a 'big block', and I'm curious if it is maybe larger even than the Daytona's to which it is similar. Any thoughts on where I could source a case set or dial for this? thanks - J
  15. If I were to purchase a modern gen Tudor chrono, I would go with one of the Tiger Woods models. I am considering it, since they are so reasonable on the forums. They are really eye catching and Tiger's been an inspiration to me for years. Sure, he's had a bad couple years, but, 12 under at the 97 Master's... wow, just wow.
  16. I am wondering if I can use DW's 7034 case with the chrono dial and works shown above. Anyone know how feasible? If so, which movement choices do I have? Gotchas? I would want to use the black bezel on this as above, another idea which I'm not sure is feasible. thx - J
  17. mods, please delete. my connection timed out when posting, so I thought the first try didn't go through. hurricane alley at present here...
  18. So, I've been looking at watches that I like, and while the Daytona is the look I'd really like, I can't pull off a $25k watch. So, I stared looking at the Tudor choices and have fallen in love with this beauty. First off, I'd like to know where to start on this. Does the cartel make a decent version, spinmaster, Yuki, etc... to start with? What is a good source for it? One of our dealers, yes, but who has one, has a good one? Once I get the base watch, case, etc... what types of mods would be reasonable for this model? Pushers from Ofrei, gen crystal, replace movement, etc??? I would like to do this up nice and am not afraid to spend where needed to make it look gen. I can buy the gen for about $5k, and I'd like to hang on to a bit of cash right now. Thanks, J

  20. Hypothesis: This hobby is good, not bad, for genuine watch manufacturers. Rationale: I think my situation is probably more common than the converse. I am close to 'success' as judged by income, but certainly not rich or without monetary worries. I can 'pull off' a gen watch or two based on my occupation, but in the <$20k range. I couldn't explain a $100k Patek to my friends/colleagues if I had to. I feel that the rep market has allowed me to touch/feel/experience watches that I would not have if I had to buy them. I might have bought one, possible another, traded a few times in my life, and that would have been the extent of my luxury watch involvement. In fact, I own several reps now which are excellent quality, and it has guided me to the following thoughts; I can own several nice watches within reason. e.g. I am expanding the luxury market by leaving mid-tier brands for higher tier brands which I could actually buy at present. I know what I like. Much better, I might add, than if I owned a gen. I feel that owning a gen would force 'fake' satisfaction on me, causing me to defend a poor fit as I put out a wad of cash for same. I would be boxed into a corner, not wanting to appear a fool who put out $10k for a watch that ultimately didn't work for me. Looked great in the store, not so much on my arm with my fashion sense, etc... I will eventually buy these higher end brands. Yes, I am now cognizant of the quality diff. between luxury brands and their reps. I showed up at a reunion with close friends. I was wearing a BK TW best sub. A good bud was wearing the gen. Let me tell you, the diff is obvious. Good thing we were all hammered. Being a technical geeky type, I've been thinking of taking some watch-smith classes at a local technical college. I am hooked, and will spend more money within this industry, not less. So, there we have it, my defense of the rep community. Let the $50 Time Square/Canal Street crap exist. Noone thinks they are real. The high end rep market likely contributes + dollars to the gen community, not -. -J
  21. Get a Slevin. Josh's got some left and you'll get 90% of the design, minus the ridonculous bezel teeth. I think the bezel was adopted from a 50hp stone crushing motor gear... PS I think I'm hilarious when I've had 2 or 5 rum-cokes...
  22. The Timewalker is one of the nicest watches I've seen at dealer. The design is pure sex and the finish quality of the gen is like butter. There, you have it. I put sex and butter into a post. Amirite?
