  1. Oooh I can't wait. I have a similar project in with father PB presently. I went with the 1665 from Puretime added a gen crown and a Yuki rivet bracelet, which I prefer. PB is working his magic and I'll let you all take a looksy when she's done. Nice watch! cheers - J
  2. Super nice watch. Cool dog too!
  3. Wow. Where? and what is the movement? -J
  4. Hello, are any of these still available? I am potentially interested in one solid and one display plexi aged. thanks - J
  5. This is a 'Slevin' Aquatimer. You can order it from Angus at Puretimewatch, Josh at Perfect Clones or any of the other trusted dealers listed on RWG. That is highly recommended for your safety. - J

    1665 Project

Club, So far, I've done the following, though I'm sure you'll get many opinions on my choices... I engaged PBDad to build my 1665 for me. He suggested, and I went with a full watch from Angus at Puretimewatch. Another option, and many posts on here swear by it, is the MBW case option which has several benefits but is more pricey. Although not correct for this watch, I wanted a rivet style bracelet as I prefer their feel over folded link bracelets. I like their look and feel better than the Oyster solid option. I went with one from Yukiwatch. I like the high domed crystals, so am going with a Clark tropic crystal at PBDad's suggestion. He's going to do his accelerated aging to it for me as well. I gotta say, I'm really looking forward to seeing it when done. I'll post here when I receive it. I would highly recommend reading the link given by freddy333 a few posts up. Very informative.

    1665 Project

PS I'm also willing to look at well done units for purchase vs. doing this all myself. I'm a do-it-yourselfer, but I have a basement remodel going on as well...
  10. I am really in love with the Double Red Sea Dwellers that I have seen to date. What I would really like, thought I'm not sure of authenticity is a nice aged vintage unit with a riveted or folded bracelet and high domed tropic style crystal. I am thinking of starting with one of the units from Angus at PT, but am confused with the 6 dial types. I am looking for all kinds of suggestions and information on the proper route to follow to end up with a very believable vintage looking DRSD. I was thinking the following; PT base unit, dial 3 shave crown guards (why does this still need to be done if the rep factories recognize this obvious flaw?) replace crown with gen if available file date window to larger size & fix metal surfaces with black paint or Sharpie depending on matching replace rep bracelet with higher quality riveted or folded rep bleach insert scotch-brite and fine sanding to achieve weathered look possible tritium/tritium contamination relume replace movement with Swiss version of std. Asian supplied with rep movement service mineral-oil treatment for bracelet I am hoping to pull this off for <1000 USD So, any thoughts, suggestions, sources, items I need to address. Items which show I'm a complete neophyte. Please offend if needed, I'm prepared. Thanks - J
  11. Thanks folks. Lobster is sending me a couple links pro bono. I really appreciate it. Gimme, if I need the 3rd link, I think I'll try a diet! lol.
  12. Thanks folks, you're awesome. Best I can tell, I need two links. Basically, the deployant stands out at 90 degrees when I try to close it around my wrist. I think one link would get it to <45 degrees, but two would likely allow it to fit properly. So, please let me know what you want for your links and we can make arrangements. - John
  13. I have just taken possession of a beautitul Ziggified IWC 3719 (Slevin). I bought from an RWG member via this sales listing. It really is stunning and I think is now the favorite in my collection. Unfortunately, I can't put it on yet, since the bracelt is too small. I've asked the seller for links, but if he doesn't still have them, I'll be out of luck. In that case, does anyone know where I could source some links? Thanks, J
  14. Cost, source, etc...? Also, do they work with various movements or must you have them modified? thank you - JEKS
  15. Thank you folks. With that, my project begins. -John
  16. OK, I am new to reps and mechanical watches in general, having owned quartz and LCD screen watches until recently. I find I've been researching all the 'big' brands, but I keep returning to Panerai. I now have three, two of which I am listing to sell, but it has given me an idea of what I am really looking for. I've got a 212 that I'll keep. It is hard to beat that watch with it's big fat supple leather band and a pair of jeans for casual attire. So, I've got that covered, but I'd like to own a nicer PAM with crown-guard, which gives them a bit of their unique look. So, here is my wish list of items I would have in my perfect PAM; Thick raised protruding crystal vs. flat or just slightly convex. I enoy the way the thick crystals refract light and distort the image underneath. I think they are mainly plexi, which is fine, by me, but I prefer sapphire if available. Pardon my ignorance.Brushed SS but case with polished ring around crystal and polished crown guard.Roller crown guard leverQuick change strap barsSausage dial with good AR'base' dial no seconds, date, chrono or power reserve; nothing but minute and hours handsSwiss movementMatching bracelet available for purchaseextra quick change bars for various strapsSolid caseback; codicil; if there is a very nice or interesting looking movement available for said watch, I would then like a good caseback with real crystal. So, I guess, that's what I know of now. Does anyone have a standard Panerai model # to suggest or a unit to begin with to build what I'm looking for. If it is a fantasy model, so be it. I'll be the one wearing it! Thanks - J
  17. OK, so I put them down a bit based on a bad experience. I will say, there are alternatives which may be better in scertain circumstances. I found Hardigg's Stormcase line worked well and took a beating better than the Pelican's we used based on the softer plastic. The Peil's cracked, the Storms gouged. They both protected gear, but the Storms failed in safer way. Regardless, Pelican purchased Hardigg a few years ago, and they now call them the Pelican Storm line and they are good stuff.
  18. As someone who had a $14k thermographic camera stolen a few years back, I have one warning re these cases. Yes, they are great physical protection, yes they are waterproof, lockable, etc... But they always scream, "something expensive is inside. Please steal me". Just a thought on what otherwise is a smart choice for anything requiring protection. PS thief was most likely a baggage ground crew person at the airport where it went missing.
  19. I am looking into these and wondering if anyone has bought a rep of this. If so, fit, finish? Recommended mods to make it better? Photos? Selling? Thanks J
  20. Pbdad, I'm a noob, so I must ask. Why does vintage lume go 3D? Does it decompose over time and have a higher specific volume than the 'new' lume hence flaking off like rust? Or, is the lume thick to start with and pieces are simply falling off? On real units, would this flake off and accumulate in between the dial and crystal as loose particles? Thx I asked the same question in a sales posting here.
  21. Budi was excellent to deal with. Great communication and rapid delivery. The watch is beautiful. Thanks!
