  1. Nice steampunk lighter as well. Antique? If now, where'd you grab it? thx - J
  2. Wow, I'm thinking I need to add an AP to the collection, and this is on the top of my list. Total damage to the checkbook, if I may ask?
  3. Hell yes, I'd be up for a few myself. But, let's see what comes of this. - J
  4. I'd love to see what it looks like as well.
  5. OK, so I've never understood the crown guard trim thing. My understanding of forging is that it take more, not less, effort to draw items like that out further. If is isn't forged but machined, a tiny bit more cutting, if cast, a bit less material. So, why oh why isn't this just corrected and a problem nevermore? The rep makers are doing such a great job on details that I find myself scratching my head on the crown guard issue.
  6. Fair enough. IF you've got the room, dedicated machines are the way to go. If, like me, you have storage/space/workshop envy, you take what you can get...
  7. I suggest checking out some of the inexpensive lathes, mills and combo's available from HarborFreight. Also, yardsales and Craigslist are your friend for machine tools - J Mill $600 http://www.harborfre...hine-44991.html Lathe $500 http://www.harborfre...athe-93212.html Sweet Combo $2000 http://www.harborfre...feed-44142.html
  8. Not saying go away for good, but I can recommend this addition to while away a few months/years. After which you can return here and start over. StraightRazorPlace Lynn, the guy who runs the site is a great guy and you can certainly learn a bit about finishing, metalwork, steels, soaps, etc... Not to mention never having to buy a disposable razor again and being able to pick up project razors on eBay and/or yardsales for pennies. I suspect many of the folks on RWG based on their interested in vintage and/or mechanical pieces will find this at least a little interesting. - JEKS
  9. Higho, What would you suggest for fixes, if possible on this piece. Crown position seems something I'll have to live with, lest I have it filled and redrilled. If so, what are you thinking, maybe 0.5mm higher (closer to the crystal plane)?Crowns can be altered a bit with grinding, etc... suggestions? Here is a gen LV for reference. Are you suggesting removing the rehaut engraving? I Googled a bit and found only LVs with the engraving. Did they make some without? Or, are you suggesting something else?I'm asking because I may go further with this. I've got a used gen bezel and I'm considering adding a 3135 at some point if I can find one for under $1500. Thanks, JEKS
  10. OK, yes, BK LV sub with WM9 hand and dial. Gen crystal, crown and insert. I am in love.
  11. Anyone care to guess the source, details, etc?... Cheers!
  12. I have read that the V2 wm9 case is the standard against which other reps are compared. So, my advice would be to go with thatm if in fact it is available, send it to BK and have him do his magic on it. voila, best of both worlds. Also, as the owner of a TW best from BK with gen crown, crystal and crown, I highly recommend these mods. Good luck - J
  13. Silver JB Weld (~$3) would also do the trick, especially if the intent is only to fill the holes to retap.
  14. Agrippa and I agreed to a trade, my watch for his + he's send $150 as well. He says he sent the watch, but I didn't receive anything. He explained that he'd have to go away for a little while (couple weeks min) to care for his sick mother. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt, but last communication was on May12th and here we sit two months later. He's not replying to my request for an update. Thoughts? - J
  15. OK, I thought he did the pearl too, but maybe not, I'll check with him. As for the compound, you may have a point. I'll have to see if the black stuff on the clasp is just compound and will come off easily. I am not sure if this one is a keeper for me yet. I've got my new DRSD (keeper!), a black 16610 BKLM sub with WM9 dial and hands and this DSSD. I also have an LV with gen crystal, insert and crown on the way from BK as well. I'm going to try to pare down the collection to only two Rollies, but it may be hard. Basically, if I find the LV a better fit for me than the black sub, which is one of my main two watches (the other is a PAM232), then either the black sub or the DSSD will likely go. Decisions, decisions... I had one of the BK YMs but decided that was def. not my style, so off it went. Who knows, maybe I'll end up with three Rollies. Reps are a disease. There should be a disclaimer!
  16. OK, so along with my new DRSD came the BKLM DSSD that I asked BK to send to PB for some mods. PB did the following in addition to BKs work; satin varnish on dialvarnish pearlseal HEVsingle ARbuff braceletAs usual, the results are excellent from these two detailed gents.
  17. Sweet piece. I'm thinking of adding a Hublot and an AP to round out my fledgling rep collection. I didn't like either right off the bat, but they've grown on me. This diver is a beauty!
  18. And here we have her, my new DRSD 1665 from PBDad. I must say, PB is a pleasure to deal with and a fine craftsman. The watch started as Puretime's DRSD clone with #4 dial. Relumed to vintage Distressed case and bracelet Added Clark T39 dome Added Gen 702 crown Added Clark tube Insert aged to look vintage Sealed Regulated I am very happy with this!!! The wrapping makes me feel like a kid at Christmas. The filler is a nice touch as well. The first two shots show the plastic protector film on the crystal. And, here we have it in all it's glory. Note the polished lug pin ends. I sure do love the look of the rivet bracelet. Too bad they feel like tinny crap. I bought a good one from Yuki , very close to the gen from what I've read, but it still feels insubstantial. I'd recommend considering the weight of a bracelet before you jump at one. C'est la Vie, I bought it for the looks, not the feel. A bit of enamel remains in the engravings after years of use, welding underwater in the North Sea... Gen 702 crown and Clark tropic to replace the stock items A bit of wear and fade since this is, of course, a tool watch
  19. Hello folks. I'm still looking for a couple links. Lobster graciously sent two links via post from the UK to the US and they've been lost in transit . Anyhow, I have this watch sitting here and can't put it on. Anyone have a link or two I can beg, buy or steal? thank - J
  20. Ah, thank you. I was sweating the answer. I've a 1665 project in PBDad's capable hands undergoing accelerated aging. It is using the Yuki bracelet in question. thx - J
  21. Freddy, do you mean that Yuki's is the original piece of [censored] or that the PT bracelet has been around for ages and is the POS?
  22. Thank you folks. Marty, is the aftermarket one a drop in replacement for the gen one? If so, and I need it, please just PM me with price and PP info. thanks - J
  23. I am looking at a gen bezel available from a member and I would like to know if it will fit onto a BK TW sub. So, in essence, does the TW sub take a gen bezel? Also, are the bezel for a SD and sub the same/interchangeable or not compatible. thanks - J
  24. Gregor, Mein Deutsch ist nicht zer gut... PT is Puretimewatch.com The watch they mention is here which is the meters first 1680 sub. Good luck. - J
