  1. I posted this reply on TRC. Nobody has responded to my post... So maybe it'll be helpful if I post it here. As a proud owner of a 5513... Here are my comments: The dial is a service replacement. I am unfamiliar with the white gold surrounds style of dial. My 5513 is a vintage 60s model with a matte dial. I cannot discern its authenticity. The rest of the watch looks brand new. My caseback is the same shape, but it does not have the polish scheme yours has (because mine is 40 years old). The underside of your lugs are brushed, etc... All this 'perfect' polish means to me that it must've been a NOS watch - or freshly polished. The bracelet looks brand new, too. To kinda sum it up, maybe the odd caseback polish scheme means that sombody went to town on refinishing the case. They went overboard and refinished the watch beyond facory specs. So, could be real but suffered a polish job by a crazy man. Crack open the caseback, you should see a gleaming 1520 movement. It should look new if the case is so new looking. Record the inner caseback numbers (example: III 82, meaning 3rd quarter 1982). Also check for AD service marks in the inner caseback. Then record the serial number between the lug. Look it up online to get the approximate date of manufacture. It should be a close match to the inner caseback marking. It doesn't have to be an exact year match, but it should be very close. If you did get it from a reputable source, then you could get yer money back if you do find it to be fake. Check all the info that I posted here. You will then know. Cheers
  2. Eunomians with pointed guard 1675...
  3. El Coyote gets my big thumbs up. Perfect place IMHO.
  4. $1200 is about right. Not too bad if u can give up buying reps for a couple of months Cheers
  5. If u want a Speedy, it means u gotta buck up and buy the real deal. They are not that much more expensive than reps.
  6. I have a love/hate thing with my jubillee. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I can't wait to get home to change it. Weird.
  7. It's very real, dated 1916. Clip is from 1938.
  8. Fascinating points, gentlemen. I do remember the bubble burst in Japan. I remember the mid-80s recession in California... I just wish that I had an early Victorian Breguet pocketwatch that kept time in order for the world around me. Best regards And yes, the markets are indeed cyclical. History is indeed cyclical despite modernity being long gone (for the time being).
  9. Interesting thoughts... Sure the Rolex market is manipulated by a select few, and I know who they are, too. But, hype and provenance are still key factors in collectability. When I'm in Tokyo, it all makes sense. When I'm in Shanghai or Kowloon, it all makes sense. When I'm in Italy, it all makes sense. Forget about new. In with the old. In with the no longer. Sure, new hand-made movements are mind-bending, but a vintage movement is hotter. A 1954 300SL Gullwing will never be made again. They are 'no longer'. Now that adds something to the mix. Here's 2 opposites for ya (my opinion): I believe that Red Sub is worth more now becasue of all the fakes. I know that 6263 is not worth less because of high end fakes (that have been around since the late 80s). All markets are corrupt. But people still throw money around.
  10. The pilot was my grandmother's brother... Shot down and killed. I have his journals. I look at it often. I stare at his photos that I have from time to time. His face, his eyes, they speak to me. Thanks for asking.
  11. Ahhh, here we go. Time for some fun I ordered a set of hands from David Sen (Davidsenjpn AKA Watchmmx) that were made in an attempt to fix the short cannon pinion problem on 99% of PAM reps. I know that a longer cannon pinion can be installed into the watch, but certainly this is beyond the skills of most amateurs - basically, this mod requires a trip to the watchmaker. David has created hands that most people can install themselves - and these hands appear to solve the cannon pin issue pretty damn nicely. The hour hand needs to be bent ever-so-slightly to make clearance over the seconds hand. The bend is not noticeable once installation job is 100% complete. --------------------------- *Please note that I highly recommend that you use the appropriate tools. --------------------------- The hands are finished excellently. They appear to have been perfectly executed during manufacturing. The minute hand has a nice cap that looks like a correct cannon pinion tip when the crystal is installed. It looks as such upon close examination/scrutinization. The luminous material is evenly applied; and, the luminous glows like a friggin' torch. --------------------------- Overall installation time for me was a mere 30 minutes... And I am slow --------------------------- David's work is a great asset to our forum! Please have a look at my pics:
  12. I agree, it's a perfect marriage - at least, I'm happy.
  13. I do not see prices dropping ever. Ok, a little bit, a little makert-settling, if u will. But prices will not go down. They will rise, rise, rise. Most of these oldies are no longer supported by Rolex service centers. They are rare. And they are semi-affordable for the serious collector. They are being snatched up quickly. And they are being kept. Some things had to drop a bit. 1016, for example. Fashion comes and goes. But 6263/5 will never drop. It has been utter madness for many years now. It is thee archaetypal chronograph. It is the model that others are tested against. How many watches were V72 powered and why is the Rolex version the most coveted??? Why are there 50,000 Sub clones??? The answers are simple: Roelx had an uncanny gift to make perfect watches. Some may have not been perfect at the time of release, but in time, with the dust settling, perfection is suddenly apparent. Think along the lines of a Pinot Noir, or a fine whiskey. Age adds to perfection. Things taken out of one context and placed into another can be formidable. This is what Vintage Rolex is all about. Signed, Diehard WIS Euno
  14. ...BBQs are being stoked so that bellies can be filled with meats. Rest assured, the smoke will clear.
  15. I hope the T39 project is coming along well, I am ready to slap on a superdome!
  16. Well, I'm glad I'm not the only newb. We can all be geekazoids together. We can rise through the ranks together. Solidarity is a good thing.
