  2. 10 returns announced between 4/11 and today. jamesg / therooster / slask111 / user54 / stephane / rassie / trombone - none of these listed in the original missing list. Itseme / Prof / Scoobs 1971 (from the original list) Still missing (from the original list) 15: me / Caracarnj / Windyzz / Fireman Fred / Tazzman / MB1 / Yacht_master / sulimbim /RC42 / Pam 192MEX / AndyHolmes / Olreon / gruva / Lewis123 / fivefive So say 10/25 returned between 4/11 and 10/11 - 40%. And none of these had had any work done, but had probably been shipped months ago and J was still accepting orders even with these pending. Anyway - it still looks positive for now in that things are turning up. Here's hoping that in a couple of weeks we can have 24/24 and issue closed. I also doubt he'll be back. And I think he would have done himself a lot of good posting here as to what had gone wrong. Would have reduced tensions and perhaps some of the posts that some people seem to be unhappy about for whatever reason.
  3. Those that have received something back and have posted, all have said here that the work wasn't done. Looks like these were also items that hadn't been paid for. Same for an item in RG. Looks like he's just sending back. No notes or explanations. I guess he's also just using normal mail and not certified. Interesting to see if anything with work done (either complete or in-progress) turns up..... Tried to find the thead of the list of all the items with J, to see what had been returned. Can't find it. Would be good to recover it, and mark off the returns and the date for each...another sticky.....
  4. Member on RG reported having just received his Carrera back. AR had been done previously but he'd sent it back for an alignment issue with J's watchmaker. It was returned yesterday, but the alignment hasn't been done...... So another one off the list.... Sounds like J has had watchmaker and AR provider problems for whatever reason...... Also looks like he's trying to make good by returning items. I'm hoping mine will r
  5. He's kept or sold only the good ones....... Might be useful to recover the other thread with the list that is missing, and start crossing off the returns with their received date. That way keep an active list of whats still outstanding. Interesting that what has been returned has not been coated or fixed. Just sent back. I got messages from J saying the Ar had been done but had a problem and had to be re-coated....that after 3 messages that all was well, finished and to be shipped back the following week........ Stay tuned all - the fun has started again.......
  6. I'm also amazed this has gone cold. Such an extensive list of items being held, payments by people.....maybe the biggest scam or problem to have hit here? 19 pages of discussion, perhaps too much bickering between members. Some offers of organising some form of face to face contact with him, some people apparently have useful information (a second, possibly real address), and yet weeks later we're no further forward. Nothing concrete organised. I guess the formal view may be "what more can be done, especially in this forum?". That may be right. Then another thread that was opened on a debate over having a modding section, also died quickly. When Finepics went AWOL there was hell here, and seemingly a lot of attempts in the background to sort things. In the end he came through I think. When NAVI went bad there was more of the same. In J's case, both here and in RepGeek, seems the concensus is just to accept it as part of life...... OK - maybe venting rage here doesn't achieve anything, but there were members making promises of phone calls to his mother, or whatever, to try to get information or a response. But that's all dried up..... If he still has all the property, with the passing of time he'll either dump it all or off-load it in a flea market. Sql-pl - did you try calling again? Anyone else have anything else to add. Mods/Admin - do we formally close and forget this issue, as a nasty experience?
  7. Aside from a couple of e.mails to members a couple of weeks ago, stating that watches were ready for return shipping, no-one seems to have had any other contact. None of the members here, and noe of those in RepGeek. No-one has posted regarding any contact, or having received any watches back. And this thread was to be where people were to do just that... So guess it's safe to assume that no-one has anything new, no-one has had any contact with J, and no-one has received anything back.... Good eh?
  8. Small danger that the discussion is moving away from it's intention. I think this thread is about how modding should be handled by the forum admin and mambers, re. a specific section and listed modders, or not. Rather than a thread to list requests for specific work, or who does what type lists..... Just a thought....
  9. Well...my feelings are as follows for what they're worth. The core basis of this forum and essentially this hobby, is basically the pursuit of the best possible 'copy' or 'replica' of a given genuine article. Hence all the questions on 'best out of the box', or 'most accurate', and the posts on mods completed, and the questions and instructions on how to do's and who does etc..... Starting from here, it's going to attract people to offer services. Sales of items (members and dealers) and services for mods and upgrades. On this basis I see no reason why a modding section can't be maintained, the same way as a dealer section or a trade section. Otherwise it would all revert to PM's and contacts outside an 'open' forum ground. The problem seems to be the 'policing' of those offering products - dealers and modders. Regarding dealers this seems to have sorted itself out in the main, through people posting their experiences etc. For modders - with specific and notable exceptions - maybe here what is needed is more open communication over services and work done. No-one is forcing anyone to come to a forum and advertise their services. What maybe is missing is a higher sense of 'duty' from the community, to communicate experiences and worries without fear of retribution. Always where information and views are written fairly and with common sense, and with the objective of informing people for the good of all. That's what the community is about. Then members are in a better position to make an informed decision on dealing with that individual or not, the same as occurs with the dealers. On that basis, I'd think that what's needed is: * the forum Admin have a better safeguard over the modders contact details and availability (by whatever means - some ideas have already been voiced). It's not their job to safeguard someone's services, but maybe they can reduce risks by adding in controls and whatever safeguards behind the scenes. * more open posts over work received, fears and concerns. In the case of the dealers, a number of times those that are genuine (ie looking to offer good product and satisfy customer) reply and fix things. Those that get angry, tend later to disapear..... This would highten visibility in the community to others, that someone was going off the rails * genuine modders should be more strcit in controlling work received - to avoid being snowed under. The member can choose to wait, leave it, or go elsewhere. Again for the good of the community. Again - this is relating to someone offering their services openly. Different issue over Stephane's example, where work is done by peopel with skills, on a less formal basis.
  10. Well.... Regarding the status of our watches (and I guess those in RG not listed in RWG) - I'm convinced the only way forward is to organise a face-to-face contact with J somehow. I'm sure that's a possibility that may just need a few missing details (like J's real address which may already be available to someone). It would be good also for a Polish speaker to call his mother again on the other number available and see what can be gleaned..... I'm not going to debate the reasons over what's happened since we have nothing concrete to go on...but we need to find out at least if he still has them or not. Maybe he's dimped the lot, or sold them in a cheap or knock-off market for whatever to be rid of them... Regarding another point that's probably worth a seperate thread; in my case, I'm more of a reader than poster. I don't have an in-depth knowledge of watches, and use this forum to help fill that gap, provide information, enjoy other people's posts, do the odd trade, and if possible help someone else. I've managed to make a few friends via my limited contribution. However I, like many others, basically trust the views and experience of people here. So when it came to choosing to send an expensive rep to J, I had read forum reviews and comments and only found it all to be positive. In fact, a number of members positively rejoiced in praise for J's outstanding work, help, etc etc. What a great guy..... Nowhere had I picked up that there were problems behind the scenes, now indicated here. In fact, I'm surprised now by the inferred level of problems, and 'clear signs' which I guess myself and others as being naive didn't pick up on. But if a guy has a modding section, has been around for a couple of years, is advertising a service, and receives nothing but glowing reviews and comments from members (including a number well respected), well it's easy to go ahead and trust. Never read about cyclopses falling off, damaged crystals, damaged hands, piss poor watchsmith work, that he seemed shady, etc etc etc. People are fast to post about problem transactions with other members, quality from dealers and the like. And depending on how they phrase their post, they receive support or a good flaming - yes in some cases deserved, but not always..... Surely one of the objectives of a forum like this to exchange and help each other. People talk about a community... Well in that sense surely there's an obligation of the community to advise of dangers to others, or offer advice or warnings. And without fear of prejudice. So in that sense, has the community failed? Those knowing of a worsening situation have not made any effort to warn others in some way.... Isn't that a shared responsability under a community concept? So I hope 2 things: (1) we all get our property back - soon (maybe by a provoked encounter) (2) the forum opens up and is more tolerant on people posting experiences. That people should apply common sense BEFORE posting, and write in a non aggressive way (English skills permitting) is fair enough. But they should be able to post without the fear that they're going to get hammered somehow. 2 pence worth..... Now - what are we going to do about arranging a meeting with J?
  11. 9515 views on this thread. 309 replies. Some time ago RG started commenting the same, and it seems there are members there not common to RWG who also have items with J, so the list is potentially longer than the one composed here. No-one has received anything back. No-one seems to have been able to get in contact, other than a couple of members receiving a mail saying will be shipped (did it ever arrive). Too much time has passed now surely.....for any hope that J will return and send back everyones items....let alone re-funds if warranted. So - a great scam overall. He's walked away with say +$10,000 of items (estimates reached $20,000) plus cash payments...... He did a good job......and we all got screwed.....
  12. I think the direct face-to-face 'friendly' contact (no hassel, just try to recover items and see what's going on) would be the best way forward. It's interesting to see that every other day there are member(s) logged on anonymously. Perhaps J has been here and is aware of this thread... If he has any intention of recovering future business, now would be the best and maybe only time, to come forward and explain what's happened and what his intentions are. Too many watches and too much money this time to be ignored...
  13. To a fellow Scot - welcome. Excellent UK dealer is PT (Precious Time - he has a section here) or Narika. Have fun
  14. Sincerest condolences. A very difficult loss. My own mother died a couple of years ago. This may sound strange, but you sound as though you have a good attitude to manage this. Keep the best memories strong....
  15. This thread and problem seems to be losing momentum. Has anyone had any new contact with J, or received an item back in say the last 2 weeks?
  16. Anyone anything new to add?? I continue to send e.mails to arcoatings@gmail.com, and phone the mobile. No answers...
  17. Any luck in the phone call??
  18. Called his landline number today. A woman answered on the first ring, but unfortunately didn't speak English and my Polish is nil. I mentioned Jakub's name but wasn't sure if she was saying he wasn't there, or there was no Jakub at that number.... This is all really looking very bad...... Sql - looks like you and your friend are the best hopes for a direct contact with Jakub, to establish what's going on........
  19. Have MODS / ADMIN been successful in making contact with Jakub to see how he is and what's happening. I understand that they should have other means of contacting him - maybe a landline fixed telephone number?
  20. I like this idea too, but as stated, we'd need a willing volunteer in the Warsaw area, and also that Jacub can be contacted and accepts help. Someone mentioned a land-line number (Mr Jones I think). Does anyone have a contact number other than J's mobile, which either goes straight to voicemail or is not answered? That may be a start....
  21. Well all. I've tried relentless (and politely) to contact him. Phone calls go to voicemail or are disconnected after ringing a few times. E.mails go un-replied. What can we do now? From this and the other thread compiling a list, it seems that no-one has had any contact. Theories abound. However the fact is that a trusted member since 2006, seems to be in possession of some $10K (number came from a previous post) of our property. I still am not convinced he's scamming as such. What happened with Finepics was similar - he had health problems then personal problems, that all turned into depression basically - and did resolve itself in the end. But here???? What, if anything, can be done? Maybe J is suffering from some form of crisis or depression?

  24. Just curious if anyone has heard anything or received anything since J posted? Just to see if there is activity to resolve all pending items..... Not having a go at the guy (as possibly interpreted by some) - just curious to see if anything is happening. In my case I've heard nothing - not even a reply to my e.mail sending my condolences...
