It's all together now! The case is from a certain well-known parts distributor that I won't mention because I hear they're going on an anti-rep crusade. The crystal is a clark, the bracelet is from an SA3135 sub, the hands, dial, DWO and movement ring are TC and the bezel, insert and crown are gen. It's powered by the same 2824 clone that's contained within my UPO franken and both have crazy amplitude numbers and seem really stable. I didn't take any pictures of the movement ring or the dial mods but I'll do my best to describe them: the dial was turned down to gen diameter using a dremel and the movement ring was turned down to mimic the 3135 dimensions on my giant car shop lathe. It's a perfect fit now and should be able to drop into any gen or gen-style case like the ETASwiss. Here's a few teaser pics...

My TC stuff should be here soon... I had great luck with the movement ring today on the lathe, it fits the case perfectly! I'll get some pictures when everything is going together.

Search the sponsors section of RG and you'll find him. Correctime may want your datewheel when you swap!

You can use a slightly smaller spring bar like the 1.8mm spring bar from the YM to account for mis-drilled lugs.

Thank you! As far as I know, the only case that takes a rep-diameter dial is the TC case. This is definitely a 16610 case though so even if you had the lugs drilled, I think you might not get as close as you want to that magic 16800 look. Personally, I'd go for it. The rehaut depth difference is .5mm. Really, who's going to call you out on that?? I'm putting a TC "SWISS MADE" dial in a lughole case with a 16800 or early 16610 bezel because I want the practicality of being able to read it at night. I'm building this as my everyday watch so I want solid and reliable. I love my SA3135

It's a clark which I assume is 2mm. It's on a 2.8mm gasket though, as everything else looked too low. I just switched to the 2.8mm gasket on my Sean case franken with the gen crystal I got from you as well and it gave it that added "pop" that I was looking for. It looks bang on for an M-Serial sub too!

TC parts are inbound! Hopefully the movement ring will work and I'm going to take a shot at turning down the TC dial before I go cutting up my gen dial. It's nice to have a gen dial as a fallback though but I want this build to be a solid, everyday watch so I want to know my dial is secure when I drop it or worse...

The dial recess has a diameter of 27.64mm and is nearly 1mm deep which is where you run into problems. The movement ring part is 28.58mm so the smaller of the those two rings should fit but you'll have to mill off that top edge to get the dial to seat. I was able to successfully turn down a TC movement ring to the proper dimensions, when I get home I'll see if it fits in the case!

I have one for the Sean case made by FatMatt on RWI (I think that's his name) and a TC ring which is what I think I'll end up using. Both are too big for the StarTime case and would have to be milled down. My lathe should work but I'll have to see if I can make it happen without messing anything up!
-
Last I checked TC was cheaper then BK? The BK TWB sub is well know and loved here, the TC is a new arrival but very good and in some ways more accurate to the gen model. Do some research and see which one you like better, it's up to you in the end!

Thanks for the heads up! It's a little rich for my blood though, this is supposed to be a budget project... PureTime has a rep 93150 and so does Yuki, one of these days I'll order both and see which one is better.
-
Thanks for that link, that's a crazy watch! If you ever need to sell, let me know... :-) For mine, I'd love to source a 91350 bracelet but my first priority is getting the movement to fit! I'm off to the shop today to play with the lathe...

That's a great looking pair of subs! Details on both please! Here's a few quick pics of the case with a Clark crystal and gen bezel, insert and crown installed:

I have two that fit the 2824 perfectly, I just need to mill them down slightly to fit the case.
-
Wooohooo! I just found a chuck for my giant lathe at work that will go small enough for a movement ring! This is coming together...
-
I already have a gen "SWISS MADE" dial but the gen bezel I have is kind of early. I know that's splitting hairs but I'm like that sometimes! I wanted to power this with a 2824 that I have but my frustration with movement rings is leading me down the SA3135 v2 train of thought at the moment...
-
Well, I loved it right up until I figured out that none of the movement rings I have fit... Grrr....
-
Please! Save me from myself!

And redwatch wins the award for most expensive post of the day! I'll see if I can swing that whole package, the idea of a gen movement is making me a little damp in the hamper at the moment...

I cut. Details here...

I've been questing for a decent lughole 16610 for quite some time and built one with a sterile case a little while ago but I was never totally happy with it. The case is just too bulky: the lugs and and CGs are too fat/stubby for what I wanted. The lugholes and endlink fit is freaking awesome though so rather then try to brutalize one of my expensive ETASwiss cases into lughole submission I set to work with a file and sand paper. I roughed out the basic shape with a file and worked up to some fine sand paper and once I was pretty close I hit the critical surfaces with some ScotchBrite. Finally I dug out my unused Dremel Cleaning/Polishing kit and gave the whole thing a once over. I've never polished anything before but I'm pleased with the results! I have an older gen bezel/insert to go on this as well as a gen dial but I still need to source a good crystal. I'll try the clark one I have but I'm not enthralled with the edge bevel so I'll have to take a wait-and-see approach there. This will probably get a 2824 movement for reliability but down the road I'd love to swap that for a high-grade 2892. One thing I'm undecided on: the dial I have is a "SWISS MADE" 16610 dial. Would it look too out of place to sell that off and buy a matte 16800? I know there's a slight difference in rehaut depth between the 16610 and the 16800 but I think it might be close enough for my purposes here... Let me know what you think, I'm still open to ideas! Best, Brendan

But I'm a-scared! I've thought about it but all my machines are for BIG holes... That said, I have a noob case to practice on, let's give it a shot!

I've decided a lughole daily beater must exist in my life but I'm torn as to how to achieve this. I still have a StarTime lughole case but the stubby crown guards and fat lugs bother me too much on that watch. I also have a Sean case but it's an M-serial and therefore has no holes. I figure it's time to send one of these cases to a modder with some case-shaping experience and the tools to do what I cannot, but I'm unsure which one to send. The Sean case would just need some holes drilled and the startime case would need some serious shaping. What would you guys do and who should I send this work to? I'm CONUS... Thanks! Brendan
