  1. PPN, despite your misinformation, this watch did not come out at the latest Basel.. It came out at Basel 2010 and was already being produced in 2009. My local boutique here IN madrid, spain got these watches within a month of Omega releasing them. And YES, it is repped. Been repped for over a year. It's not a very good version though:

The most important aspect of this watch is the "liquid metal" that is seamlessly integrated into the ceramic bezel. Doubt that a rep factory could rep this effect accurately.

I'm no expert, but I believe the model you're referring to was a limited edition PO that was shown at Basel 2010 (starting with 222). The hour markers hadn't been updated yet to a more square shape and there was no display caseback.

The one I'm referring to is the all new mainstream PO (starting with a 232), shown at this year's Basel. New hour markers, and display caseback.

Hopefully we'll see a good rep of this soon. Having the He valve at the 10 position now should make the manufacturers happy.

  2. If anything, I think the rep dial is too white and not creamy enough. But guys, unless you run into someone with a Safari -- no one will know!

Well that's the thing: I'm looking at the stock photo and catalog photo right now. It almost looks as if the dial is white. If you didn't have the sub-dials to compare to, you'd actually think the dial was white. I remember also trying this on at the AD, but don't recall noticing the dial overly yellow.

  3. Nice! I always want one but too afraid of the second at 12 movements :)

Well, I'm just curious as to how often we really hear about problems with the sec@12 movement? Is it really that prone to failure?

I know the CP model is also very popular here, and I believe it runs on the same movement. Haven't heard too many problems there...

  4. A high quality Liquid Metal rep should most definately be considered...but it's not likely to be able to be repped acurrately

I'd say go for the 5th generation 42mm PO or the 45mm UPO that's currently available.

Ofrei or cousins.uk have all the parts needed to go a VERY nice Franken for about 1k plus labor to whoever does the part swapping.

So there is no UPO for the 42mm version yet? What's missing before it's considered ultimate?

  5. I think you misunderstood what ubi said.

In a very real sense, there is only one configuration of the venerable 7750 movement. All 7750s have exactly the same subdial spacing and layout.

Reps which have different configurations of the subdials use a plate installed on top of the movement, which use transfer gears to move the subdials into different positions. Depending on how much movement is needed, this can end up being quite complex.

However, all movements derived from the 7750--movements like the ETA/Valjoux 7753--use this same idea. The 7753 has transfer gears which move the output shafts to a different place, but unlike the rep makers' transfer plates, the movements are designed and built with this modification in mind, and the transfer gears go underneath the calendar plate. In other words, it's the exact same idea, but a different (higher quality) execution.

The Rolex Daytona uses a movement that's entirely different from any flavor of 7750. It's a Rolex in house movement. Therefore, all three subdials need to be moved (which involves a lot of gearing) including the seconds subdial (which sees the most wear, since it's running all the time). Also, the transfer plate installed on the front of the movement makes the overall thickness even greater (which is bad, b/c the 7750 is too thick to begin with) and increases the stem height (which is bad, for the same reason). That's why all rep Daytona cases have serious flaws--they HAVE to be bigger than a gen case, or the movement won't fit inside.

The actual base movement without the transfer plates, though, should be a standard A7750. You should in principle be able to swap any A7750 into any seconds-at-6 Daytona, pretty much, as long as you match low beat/high beat.

This is very informative, thank you. I did not realize so much was involved with the Daytona rep.

  6. Watch is Great , strap is not calsp is fine though and I have reused it

This thread shows a good example http://www.rwgforum.com/topic/135618-diving-safari/page__pid__999726#entry999726

Here is mine on HKTan horn back

Dial cream off white, not sure where you get the too yellow from?

They are a big classy watch

    Go for it

Thanks for sharing the pictures, yours looks great. I actually thought the rep hornback straps come with AP clasp?

Here is the picture from one seller I was talking about, dial looks very yellow:

  7. I thought that watch had been out a year already. There are no high end reps of it. There may be a few bad reps.

I'm not sure if it's been out for a year. I know it was announced at the latest Basel, but local ADs and boutiques don't even have it yet.

Do you know if any high end manufacturers have plans to rep this model?

  8. Been considering picking up either or both of these models. Does anyone here know if the quality on these current reps of these models is of good quality? Anything lacking or I should look out for?

Would appreciate advice from anyone with experience or who has purchased one. Thanks.

  9. Been thinking about getting a ROO recently, and the Safari is one of the models at the top of the list. Been looking at the ones from the usual top sellers and everything looks pretty good. I did have a couple concerns, though.

One is whether the color of the dial is repped correctly. The gen is a light cream color shade - I'm worried that the rep is too yellowish (from the pictures, anyway). Second is the quality and finish of the brown hornback straps. I've read that some members aren't impressed by the fit and finish of the rep straps.

Anyone here have experience or own a Safari? I'd sure appreciate your comments, thanks.

  10. thanks for the input! i made my decision and......i picked the black dial rubber clad. the chronopassion will be next though! i lost many nights sleep trying to decide...but i figured the rubber clad would be completely different from the two i have right now.

How did you come to that decision, if I may ask? I'm sort of in the same boat now.

  11. These are fantastic pics, ubi. I'm now drooling for a ROO! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I was originally thinking about the Safari or maybe even the Navy. The CP is a little sportier, which makes me wonder how it would look with leather straps? Have you considered maybe trying it with lighter straps, you think it'd work?

  12. V3 is exactly as I stated above- The finish is indeed more durable; whether that is a result of a different method of media blasting, or the fact that the finish was applied to a bare case instead of one that had been brushed prior (V2) is difficult to ascertain. But those are (from what I have come to understand) the differences in cases and case finishes.

Again, the easy way to tell the difference is to look at the edge of the crown guard. V3 has a chamfer/bevel on the edge that is polished; V2 has the bevel, but it is media blasted like the rest of the case...

Ubi, you're obviously very knowledgeable on the model. Would it be possible to include a picture of what you mean exactly on the crown guards? I want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. Thanks.

  13. Been wearing my Chronopassion at least once a day, and have not exactly been gentle with it; swimming, showers, daily life, kids, etc. Mrs Ubi smacked her watch against it the other day when she went to hold my hand, and it's not picked up any dings, dents or scratches. It's a lot more durable than the V2, methinks.

Swimming? So it is fully water resistant rated? This would be the first rep I've heard of that one can really go swimming with. But then again, I'm pretty new to all of this...

  14. I have both (and the gen in titanium) I prefer the non red..be aware these things strip crown threads like mad..its an easy fix and the gen crown and tube wil set you back about 75 bucks..

sorry, not exactly sure what you mean (newbie)?

Why would old version be more prone to thread damage - how so?

  15. Its justs moves with the second hand. They are actually one piece joined at the back. My watchmaker cut it loose and lubricated the watch, it is now super accurate

    Ah, I see. Very nice.

How's the AR on your 214? There's no blue tint, right? Must look beautiful.

  16. yes i forgot to mention that the split second is a faux. It doesn't bother me and I have asked my watch maker to take off the second second hand for it looks funny from the side. I must say that the face is much, much nicer than the 288. I have both and will probable keep both, but definatly the 214 will stay in my colection

So what does the split second hand do on the rep 214?
