  1. I think it comes down to avaialabilty, also it makes sence for the chinese to buy or copy the 2836 as it can be used in more watches, ie if you want a day date fit the day wheel if you dont want the day dont fit the wheel

I think that would make sense, but only if the reliability and quality/accuracy of the 2836 and 2824 were comparable.

  2. It makes no sense, especially when you consider both the genuine watches you mentioned have ETA 2892s in them. The 2824 it closer to the 2892 in thickness.

Who can ever fathom the vagaries of the replica makers.

So if one were to buy an Ingenieur with the 2836 movement, would that cause any problems or affect the thickness of the watch?

  3. Hey guys, I was just going through some of the rep sites, and I noticed that some of the models allow you to choose either the 2836 or 2824 movement. I'm still relatively new to all this, and I was wondering if someone could tell me the main differences between the two. Is any particular one "better" than the other, and which is typically more expensive?

    Thanks!

  4. I would like to see a side by side of this one with a PO 45 that will tell a lot about the fit since I have a PO and it wears nice on me.

    Thanks

My understanding (at least for the gens) is that the APROO is comparable diameter-wise to the 45.5 PO. But it would wear much thicker.

  5. Great watch. I would guess (and it is a guess) that that particular version has a steeper tachy ring to reveal more of the edges of the dial and make the date appear to move more to the left (closer to gen). But someone else can pile in. Watch looks great. I got that same strap with a white themes and you definitely should upgrade the strap when funds permit. Most importantly, it looks great. Wear it well. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Can anyone comment on exactly how far off the rep datewheels are off from the gens? I've been looking at pictures, and I can't find what everyone is talking about. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place...?

  6. Yes but the chubb dial has always bothered the :gun2:CRAP :gun2: out of me, which is why I own a Zigmeister lumed and serviced Trevortime. I don't look at the HEV .. I look at the dial.

When I broke the ceramic insert in the Trevor I replaced it with the superior Noob insert.

I know what you mean. The bezel triangle also really bugs me as well.

And it seems no one has yet gotten the carved bezel numbers the right thickness yet. I've found that all reps have numbers that are too thin (should be a little bolder).

  7. The Milgauss GV represented on Rolex's home page is a computer generation and does not represent the physical watch at all. It's the marketing department's wet dream. Not real.

If you go to the Rolex Forums and look at gens for sale, you will see that the crystal is Coke Bottle Green

    Gen GV for sale

I realize that, but I'm not even talking about getting that deep green look. I've handled gens, and the green color on the crystal is too far down on the reps. The shade of green is also too deep. Like you mentioned, it should be coke bottle green.

The GV reps really need a significant improvement on the crystals - right now, they are just a tell tale giveaway.

  8. I don't see much posted on here about the Milgauss, but it seems to me that even the best "ultimate" versions out currently still look terrible, especially on the GV version. The caseback, bracelet, clasp and crown all look great. But the green sapphire is really lacking.

On the gen, there isn't supposed to be a green reflection when you look at an angle, and the inside edge of the crystal isn't supposed to have the green tint. It's the outside edge that looks green.

Also, no one seems to be able to get the orange lighting second hand right yet...

Am I alone in noticing these flaws?

  9. The ceramic insert triangle at 12 0'clock:

Gen - it has such a slight curve that from certain angles it looks straight but it is not. It has a curve.

Trevor - too straight .. a perfectly triangular triangle .. plus the insert is too tall. It should be recessed within the bezel but it is not.

Noob - too curved at the top but better than a couple of years ago .. maybe it'll get better in the future.

    The HE Valve:

Trevor - has always been wrongly shaped. it's a bit too small.

Noob - has looked darn good for years

    The Pearl:

Trevor - No clear "sapphire" dome over the lume

Noob - Much improved over time! A very nice dome. Used to be a bulbous joke. See Noob v3...

    The Dial:

Trevor - Hour marker "white gold" rings are too slim .. but closer to Gen than Noob

Noob - Hour markers too chubby but greatly improved from past years. Perhaps a re-lume could fill the cups a bit more and reduce this effect. I am certainly no luming expert but it makes sense.

    The Clasp:

Trevor - more prone to have the safety clasp stand up proud of the rest of the assembly

Noob - lookin good .. much improved over previous years

The crown guards are different too, but hard to describe. Suffice to say that it's just another variable.

What can we take away from all this? Certainly that the Noobfactory improves their watches over time and the factory which makes the Trevortime watch doesn't. What's the best DSSD out there? I'd say a Trevor dial in a Noob case. Unless my guess about being able to correct the fat markers with more lume is correct .. then just re-lume a Noob watch to make the hour marker rings look thinner.

Good stuff, JKay, thanks for the information. Sounds like Noob has the better overall look out of the box.

  10. The TrevorTime DSSD has just as many flaws as the Noobfactory DSSD ... just different flaws. You have to choose which flaws you want to buy.

I read that Trevor has thinner (more gen-like) hour marker rings while the Noob versions are too fat. What other flaws does each have?

  11. PPN-

There have been a couple of folks here that have added lighter color straps to their Chronopassions; usually, it's the AP Bands Lungomare Chocolate shark strap. Defintiely dresses the watch up a little more. However I ended up fitting mine with a genuine AP rubber strap and tang buckle since I'm usually in casual attire :)

I'll have to keep this one in mind, ubiquitous. Any pointers on where I'd be able to pick one of those shark straps up? Or any pictures of it? :-)
