  1. Ummm, not sure why you would say that. I have been a registered member on this site for over 6 years? maybe I don't post on the hour every hour but I've contributed over 100 posts. Anyway, I am interested and the last time I checked my money was green like everyone else.

BTW I've actually been a member longer than you have Legend ;)

Ah yes you're right. I neglected to see that and it's my mistake. My apologies for that. Good luck getting the watch of your dreams. :)

  2. We all gotta learn at some point mate. Guess it was my time.

You have one? Sweet! How does it look on-wrist? I feel like it might be kinda overpowering to a certain extent because of it's size. I still really like it though. Gonna place my order for it this week.

Not too bad dude, not bad at all! ;)

  3. Thanks Legend & Pan!

I'll openly admit, I'm new to AP, that's cleared that one up.

I also thought Lume was one colour.

As for Ball, I've got one, its great, they use glass tubes filled with Tritium gas, allegedly guaranteed for 25 years, one of mine blew after 3 months.  Theres three things you can see on Earth from the Moon.....Great Wall of China...Panel Gaps in a Range Rover and the glow from a Ball.

    Regards

    Mark

    Dear Mark

No worries, this forum is for sharing, learning, and slaughtering newbies for asking who has the best sub.

OK I was kidding.. sometimes people don't share that much.

I seriously suspect that my ex classmate, a gargantuan girl named Mary could also be seen from space. She was the mountain when we played "comin' round the mountain", so you have an idea about her, erm, extreme..visibility.

  4. I suppose it's possible to Lume any dial/hands. The question is how good will the Lume be? Looking at the "black Lume" it's very difficult to tell if it's just a bad photo or the lume is weak, but I'm not impressed with it. Someone else posted a similar thread a while back, and one of the guys here who has a lot of experience with AP's said that he had the hands lumed on one of his AP's with black Lume, and he felt like it was a waste of money. Personally, I love Lume, the more the better, and that is one knock on some of the AP ROO chronos is the painted hands with no Lume.

You're right A, black lume is a waste of time utility wise.

To be honest, before I joined the forum, I did not even know there was such thing as black lume. I see black markers and I think of "doomed to darkness".

You said you like lume A.. ever considered a Ball watch? ;)

  5. The ROO Montauk Highway does not have lume.

Also, remember that lume can be applied on any color of markers.

In the link you showed, the panda has black lume, just like the gen. The black lume also appears in the ROO Safari, which also has black markers.

Black lume is like lume doing a half-assed job lighting up the dial in the dark, preferring to align itself with the darkness rather than providing illumination, very weak. ;)

Haha J, I did not even realise that you commented on this thread till now!

Don't worry mate, you made a valid point. I made my post very completely independently of yours, without any allusions to your post.

You're a good guy, always humble and always polite.

What you said was true in general, and if you read my post, it was simply an extension of what you said. ;)

  7. Hahaha, your advise is always very insightful pulling the community from false hypes. I think your position is more suitable for a guru in a stock market ;).

I wish that I am as insightful as you believe. My past mistakes in life speaks otherwise J. ;)

But as I grow older, I hope to make fewer mistakes. I am hence reluctantly withholding my purchase on the Schumi.

    Patience, young jedi. ;)

  8. Very well said.

On a separate note, what do you think of this schumi? :)

Sent from my iP**** using Tapatalk

Schumi? Was this what this thread was about?

    Please pardon me young J.

The Schumi is a well-made rep, but the datewheel ring, as well as the sub dial rings, are too thick.

The datewheel font is a little off but liveable. The usual datewheel position flaw applies, and the actual finishing of the dial is not clear from the pics.

In brevity, I am likely skipping this one, despite the marketing hype.

I anticipate a V2, not out of naive hopes, but because the maker spent a lot getting this model repped and produced. They would be hoping to push numbers for this watch, and feedback from the market would be heeded more seriously, much like the diver series. I would advise you to be patient. Do not jump on the bandwagon just yet. You will likely end up selling it, knowing your fastidious character. ;)

  9. I do understand your point, but apologies in adv, i think that perspective is rather ignorant. There are so many rich people in this world. We don't have to go too far, Take for example the famous Mr.A on this forum. Take a look in his watchbox and ur in for a surprise sir;)

J, I am a low-profile collector of gen watches, like you are.

But I think we both understand the value of owning a watch, gen or rep, for our own pleasure, and not needing to show it (them) to the world.

What we wear, where we stay, what we drive, are all private affairs as far as we are concerned.

The man stepping out of a Lamborghini and the man sedately driving his Toyota gets the same amount of respect from me, and I would not hesitate to tell either off if they step on my toes. Likewise for the guy flaunting his AP and the dude casually enjoying his G Shock. They are personal choices of watches and does not make the owner more respectable or impressive in my humble 2 cents opinion. The watch is meant to please the wearer and not the rest of the world.

I wear my gens and reps almost equally, and I could not care less who looks at my watches. They are for me solely and not a single other person. I have stepped out of my fairly exotic car wearing a rep, and I have driven my more mundane work car wearing a $50k gen. Its my choice, like it is the choice of any one of you when it comes to what to wear, where to live, what to drive etc. Wealth is relative, and the world is a superficial place.

Create your own universe and be happy in it. Live by your rules and keep yourself happy, as long as you do not cause harm to any others in the process. If your neighbour thinks your watch is a replica, its not your problem. If he thinks its gen, its not your problem either. Choose your watch and wear it well, and may you have many happy moments when you glance at it. The rest of the world? Why, it doesn't really matter does it? There are more than 6 billion people in this world. You only need to please one, where your watch is concerned.

  10. Haha J, you flatterer.

I know that you have been eyeing the diver series for a while now.. the V4 FC is the most accurate IMHO. And maybe the J12 ceramic diver which is yet to be released.

You might want to consider those instead.  ;)

I strongly believe that there WILL be a v2 for the white ceramic diver, and perhaps the ceramic finishing will be refined, but knowing them, they might regress on some other feature accuracy like hands, dial etc..you know the story well

so yes, the ROO FC diver v4 by noob is the diver to get for now. You have waited long enough my friend. Lol

  11. Hey, I am thinking of getting the AP Diver Carbon for a while now, and I saw that there was another update to it to version 5.

    what you guys think ?

    http://www.pure-time.com/product/royal-oak-offshore-diver-forged-carbon-11-jf-best-edition-on-rubber-strap-a2824-v5/

does anyone here have it and have any comments about it ?

    thanks.

Hmm... to summarize what everyone said, and to add some opinions of my own,

    1. The v4 is from Noob and the V5 is from J12 factory. Ignore the chinese way of naming iterations, they are misleading at times, deliberately in this case.

    2. Get the v4 if you compare the two. It has a  better dial, a more accurate hour hand, and datewheel. Actual case finishing is unknown for both v4 and v5.

    3. Yes I have ordered the v4 and its on the way. I took a look at the v5 pictures and identified it as a rep instantly. True, the v4 may not be perfect as well but it is a lot more accurate IMHO.

    4. In case you did not get the hint yet, the v4 is the one to get (for now). ;)

  12. Hey J, I'm not a veteran but the white ceramic looks very off to me if you can compare it to pics of the gen.

The gen ceramic color seems to be more solid, and with a matte finish.

The rep in the pictures look like a cheap toy trying to pose as an AP rep, a rep of a rep if you get me.

Stay off for now, wait for the next iteration. Look at the divers mate, has there been a version without a next iteration?

  13. Good to know! I'm doing some research and the tourbillon is kinda scaring me away now haha. I think I'll pass on the Cartier also. I really dig the forged carbon ap though. I know for sure I'll end up with that one.

Its good to see you grow up and learn.. :)

The AP ROO 44 FC is indeed a good choice, can't go wrong with that. I have the same piece myself and its just a stellar wrist companion.

  14. Just to share, I acquired this rare watch recently, with the following mods done:

    a. Extra jewels mod done

    b. Double AR with gold tinge

    c. Mikey Ti bezel screws

    d. Rose gold no holes clasp

    e. Datewheel surround modded to matte silver

    f. customized faceplate with titanium finish

    g. customized strap from APBands

    A quick pic

  15. Never posted the qc. But here it is in the flesh.

I like the tone of the orange, but the crown just looks horrible, sorry.

Like what someone said, it looks like the same crown is used for both the inner bezel mechanism and the winding/ time-setting crown.

Check out the crown of the gen diver pictured below. Yes, our reps will never be 100% perfect, but for such an established product line, I really do expect them to do a more accurate job.
