  1. Anyway, does Patek have gens of these two watches?

    Absolutely not.

The closest watch, even remotely, to what you're looking for is the Patek Philippe reference 5070. The spacing of the subdials on the rep is too wide, however. There are some vintage references with the far subdials but these are old, rare, and very expensive in genuine form. I'm talking $200,000+ expensive. No truly accurate reps of this watch exist as far as I know (because if they did, I would own one).

If you want a good patek replica get that ^

  2. This is a popular question, and you'll always get the same reply from me...

Trendy, reliable, believable. A twinkling high-polish bracelet and unmistakable design she'll love. Precise ETA 2671-2 movement with date complication always reminds her of those important engagements; one-of-a-kind breathtaking design reminds her of the unique brilliance only she possesses.

MSRP: About $9,800 (Rep at less than $250 from most dealers)

  3. The gold Day/Date for me. I was hot for the watch and the only time I ever wore it was from the Post Office to my house. For some reason in person it just yelled FAKE to me.

Same thing for me, although initially I adored this watch. Eventually the gold started to peel off... and then the hands misaligned. And yes, does it ever scream FAKE - I keep it on permanent display now and haven't worn it for months.

  4. Some Corgi lessons to noobs:

--> A full gold Rolex is so tempting, but believe me, it's not worth it. Plus, it might make your wrist green.

--> I know Rolex Daytonas are so cool and symmetrical looking; buy one, and prepare to face some serious frustration and disappointment.

--> The Hublot Big Bang trend is over, and gone with the wind. This is old news.

--> Watch out for the date fonts on most Breitling and some Omega reps (+ many other automatic chrono models). Look carefully before spending your money, to make sure you don't get something that looks silly.

--> Don't get too paranoid about accuracy and quality. Don't obsess about the tiniest inaccuracy, don't worry about slight problems in dimensions, because more than likely, nobody gives a flying caboose about what the hell kind of a watch you're wearing.

--> Don't quit, get depressed, and give up after one of your new watches arrives dead or broken. It happens to all of us, even to me. More than once. Yeah.

--> MOST IMPORTANTLY: Have Fun. This is a hobby meant to be enjoyed and appreciated, once you turn it into something super serious and let it affect your emotions and mental health, you're taking it too far.

  5. Think about what he's done for you over the years, and a rep won't do it.

I don't necessarily agree with you. You have to judge the character of a person, and who better than one of your own family members? Personally, my dad is one of those people who just loves to "show up the establishment" so a rep is perfect for him, because its like a middle finger straight at all of those greedy jewelery corporations that charge too much :p . Others, I'm sure, would be appalled at the idea of a counterfeit anything... you have to be honest about these things before buying.

That said, I think your idea of a genuine vintage watch is a good consideration - and the example you have there, Nanuq, is really lovely.

My suggestion for a quality rep.... I would get him something ST-19 based (2 subdial chrono manual handwind). There is a large variety, the movements are robust, and often you can get a five (or even six) figure watch for under $250. Not to mention the practicality of a 30-minute timer, and a display caseback to mesmerize and fascinate him into the world of replica horlogerie!

    Two really popular:

...or the fancy VC for dressy dads:

This is the watch my dad wears, it only cost me $98 - the movement is Asian but has proven quite reliable. Not only, it's a very accurate rep with a $27,000 MSRP

If you want something that is very simply and very accurate, how about Aquanaut from Patek Philippe? A $17,000 retail price makes this one a great step into the rep world and the sporty design will make him feel youthful on his birthday:

A dad with big wrists might enjoy a big watch! Try these from my collection: 49.2mm (/) Omega Railmaster or 44mm (/) Panerai. My dad wears the Railmaster regularly, but he's a fan of trains and railroading... it is a beauty, with a 50+ hr power reserve, a loud tick, and a distinctive design. Also, it's not expensive at all.

There are a lot of great reps out there, and many are actually better buys (in my opinion) than the very expensive new super reps being released. Some advice: stay away from automatic chrono 7750s, and be careful from whom you buy your ETA models - there have been some issues with copy ETA movements being sold as genuine by some replica dealers. Good luck!
