  1. The insert, crown and case are definitely not genuine.

But a real nice find anyway. Tell the seller that there's a market for him at RWG (if he can source more for that price). The caseback looks familiar. The watch might be something similar as the one that I used to own. Check this.

Mine was MBK-based rep and I believe yours is too.

  2. What i don't understand is why hasn't anyone made a great rep yet?

Impossible to answer this... this is what people been wondering for YEARS.

There is no good rep and we simply have to live with it. :(

However, the 16710 rep is very good. Read my section, it's full of reviews of this model.

  3. I agree, the PVD and orange is a killer combination. Strange, because usually I don't like either... PVD or orange dials... but it's perfect for this watch... it's so "Doxa"... just like "Pepsi" is so "Rolex". You know what I mean?

I might get one of these Doxas eventually... love them.

  4. Your gen Rolex collection is becoming really, really impressive. Needless to say this is a beautiful watch, and if you only own one gen Sub, this is a perfect "compromise". Something from the old, something from the new.

Personally, I prefer the sapphire on the Sub... the bulged acrylic on 1680 never attracted me that much.

    Great watch!

PS: I know you... you're not in the "pause mode"... you're "looking". :D

  5. Do you have pictures of these so called "Grade AAAAAAA+" watches?

We can determine from the pics if they're even worth any hassle. You might be able to source much better reps through this forum.

And forget the grades, they're all complete bs... fabricated by the scam sites. No "grades" exist.

PS: Welcome to the rep heaven!

  6. Some rolexes do hold their value and in some VERY rare cases increase in value, but 99% of the time from what I can tell a 5-10 yr old rolex gets about 50% of its original selling cost, still not a good investment at all.

Definitely not true... at least not with the 40mm stainless steel sports models, which are the most popular (here and everywhere). Only "full size" SS model that seems to depreciate faster is the Explorer II (and even they never go as low as 50%). Sub, Daytona, GMT and Sea Dweller all hold their value extremely well.

Your analog is true for gold/twotone/dress models though.

  7. So I think the Case design is the same only the Crystal and gaskets are different.

Remember what I said about the crystal and rehaut thickness?

I was 100% certain that only the WM9 had the correct rehaut thickness and correct look (i.e that bevel right below the crystal). But now, after the crystal exchange you seem to have that too. The case probably IS the same, which you stated in your initial Euromariner review.

The crystal/bevel (and lack of correct "front thickness") is the only remaining "weak link" on the Euromariner (before the crystal/gasket exchange).

    Your Sub looks awesome!

  8. Indeed Ubi.

This is only the 2nd "studio shot" I took of my gen GMT. Somehow my reps inspire me a lot more... this community, the friendships and also the value of money they carry... and the "forbidden fruit" factor what these counterfeits have. They're fascinating.

And it cracks me up when people say that reps are "poor value" for money. I can't honestly tell any difference in "feel" between my gen and franken-ExpII, but I find the franken WAY more fascinating. And it cost me less than 10% of the gen value!!!! But I can tell a huge difference between a watch like Invicta and Rolex... some reps have been built and finished extremely well. You can't put all of them into the same basket. Try finding a watch like the rep ETA SFSO from ANY watch store for less than $1K!!!

Same thing with my other "super reps"... TAG Aquaracer, Ebel Discovery, SMP Chrono, etc. etc. they're simply amazing... and at the end of the day watch is just a watch for me.

  9. Thanks Toad.

@Gianton: I think you actually CAN have high expectations from a rep. But that requires a non-dropshipping dealer who checks out the crystal alignment, power reserve and things like fitting of the SELs, etc. I've been very happy with both Precious Time and Eurotimez. Let's hope they'll keep it that way.

Also, you have to avoid all kinds of complications, like the correct hand stack, seconds at '6 or '3 and preferably even the Tricompax on 7750. Keep it simple: all stainless steel, plain ETA movements and 12-9-6 7750 layouts for me... from now on. All my reps work perfectly, and the small issues (like oiling the rattling bracelets) I have fixed myself.

Can't see much difference between my reps and gens, really.

  10. My view:

You have to be a real hardcore WIS to see the difference between the gen and best Rolex reps, such as WM9, Noobfactory ExpII or the new GMTIIc.

In my opinion, there is not much difference in "feel" at all. I think some people exaggerate this, trying to justify the gen prices for themselves. At least the difference is very small on these popular sports models. Just the very small details, like the rehaut/crystal shine, SELs fitting perfectly and better threaded crown.

After getting the gen I started to appreciate reps even more. They are VERY close to the real thing and after QC they actually have very good build quality. Just like Nanuq said nicely, the only significant difference is the value... and even more after 50 years.

Thanks for the comments, all. :)
