  1. Yeah, very confusing indeed. I have posted the same questions on the gen forums with zero comments. I was hoping someone would be able to shed some light. It's really not a big deal for me as I'm searching for a replacement bracelet anyways but I just want to know for the sake of knowing.
  2. I would leave any major re-finishing to an Rolex watchmaker...just to be safe.
  3. Oh yeah, silver date wheel. Tough to see through that crystal though. Can't wait to get it replaced. It's going in Tuesday for a complete service and new crystal.
  4. Thanks for the comments guys. This one has been well worn. Just a few words that the original owner emailed me after I received the watch. He was an iron worker all his life: I wore it everyday, it has been in some amazing places . On a nuke sub we had to do a repair job , very tall buildings in Manhattan , Super clean rooms At Intel. The biggest crane in the world-we were changing out 4 540 ton steam generators . Its been on some of the biggest industrial projects in this country....I never thought of it until your email but it really does have an amazing history. The pearl was replaced along with the crystal 10 years ago or so. I've got a tritium insert in the works and will replace the crystal since this one is not the original crystal. Hasn't been serviced since the late 80s and it's running +7 seconds a day...amazing. For the real vintage experts, answer me this. This watch has been on his wrist since new with the exception of a full service in the late 80s. The clasp code baffles me. On all of the charts I've seen, DE dates to 2000/1 but he said he has never had the clasp replaced. I have no reason to doubt his word as he has no reason to lie. Am I missing something here? The wear on the clasp matches the wear on the bracelet...they fit like puzzle pieces.
  5. Some how fell into this vintage world and I'm loving it. 5.1 mil 1680. Picked it up from the original owner. Going in for a service next week. Love the acrylics.
  6. The text looks good. The 5 minute hash marks look a little fat and short...and the hash at 6 is missing. But there may be different versions of the 1680 white dial. Good looking dial though.
  7. Well, I'm fitting it to a gen 5.1 mil 1680...purchased in 1977. So it's 33 years old, worn every day except from when it was at service in the late 80's. It's a well worn watch and I'd like to find a bracelet that's used used with a little stretch to match it. Ideally, I'd like to spend $500-$600. Thanks for the offer on the 9315 but that's for the earlier red sub, right?
  8. Thanks guys...now the seller is not sure he wants to sell. If anybody has a spare gen 93150 that they'd like to unload, shoot me a pm.
  9. Seeing as there aren't any rep 16800 matte dials that I've seen, this one is the next best thing.
  10. The clasp looks suspect to me but I am certainly no expert. Can anyone enlighten me? I'm looking to pick it up for my genuine 1680 5.1 mil. Thanks!
  11. awesome collection, I love that Exp.II especially. I traded my gen a few months back but it will be my next purchase, just saving up.
  12. So the answer would be...sort of yes...but it's a [censored].
  13. That is one gorgeous piece. That dial is sweet...all around beautiful watch. Congrats. I'm working on no less than 3 vintage projects right now. Lots of time and you know what to make something like that.
  14. Wow, hate to jump on the band wagon here but yes, the 243 is the best sub imo...rep or gen. I had a couple and luved them. Just sold them because I got a gen 000 in. If I were to buy a gen pam sub, the 243 would be it. The reps kick ass though...very substantial watches.
  15. I saw one in person at the AD...wasn't that impressed. I prefer the Skyland blacksteel personally.
  16. Great pick up man...gen is gen! What a watch!!
  17. The 243 is an amazing watch...the rep is a great watch.
  18. Great to hear. I actually bought this one for my wife originally. She loved it but never wore it because she couldn't get around the whole winding thing...and having to set it and screw the crown in...a bit too busy for her. Then I bought some extra links and threw it on my wrist!!! But then something else caught me eye so it was off to Stephane where he will care for her. That dial is stunning...hard to capture in pics but when the sunlight hits it, it sparkles!! It's nice to see it on a wrist again! Cheers!!
  19. Make an offer...you never know. But if you're buying just for the movement, you can buy a running datejust with the same movement for the same price or less...those sub hands are worth some coin though...even though the tritium is flaking. I would bet this movement needs a service.
  20. Like many have said before...congrats. Beautiful pick up! And the last series for the polished bezel too!
  21. Some of us have a long way to go.
  22. I'd be down. But I'm with Projectologist...never have liked the open floor restaurant idea for GTGs. A nice quaint pub with a semi private area or even a backyard would be great. I can make it if the GTG is on a Sunday...can't do Saturdays unfortunately due to work.
