Doesn't change the situation. Two wrongs don't make a right. 'Please your honour, my defence for my crime is that a victim told me to [censored] off'. Yeah, right.....
-
You should go into politics Andrew.....
-
BOO [censored]ING HOO. This is all irrelevant detail. Are we supposed to feel sympathetic and somehow accept that the restricted availability of 2892 movements makes it acceptable to misrepresent something else as 2892 because that it what we really want. You think you are selling dreams or something ie. if you can fool us into believing it is a 2892 then that justifies the money. [censored] off Andrew - this really is showing you for what you are. If the movements aren't available then say so, substitute them with something else, disclose what the substitute is and drop the price. You were always going to get caught - it was only a matter of time before enough evidence was gathered to prove that you have been lying. The B&R movement isn't a 2892, isn't even close to being a 2892. You might have well have called it a 7750 (notwithstanding the fact of course that using the 2892 number makes us all think it has a movement like the genuine...... ohhh, ahhh, suddenly we are all interested........!!!) No sympathy vote will change what you've been doing.
-
Carrots for the ignorant. If the B&R you make is up to the quality you then peddled in here as 'superlumed and ETA2892' then it is as good as not having it. We don't want your [censored].
-
I don't give a flying [censored] what it gets called in China. Look at the thing with your own eyes and decide for yourself if what it is is what you've been told it is. You are either being willfully ignorant or you are as thick as [censored] when it comes to watches. Which one is it?! Edit to add.. Take that with you next time you are buying a case of movements. Might save you being ripped off in future.......

The lie was exposed by myself and Marrickville Boy at the time Andrew came in and made the assertion. Either Trusty was exposing his total ignorance of the subject or was telling lies. The fact that he deigned to comment on our experts over the matter was clearly to mis-direct new buyers (after all, he's the Trusty Watch Guy). The problem we have here is that we have two dealers dangling carrots in front of our potential buyers, who will follow the carrot and ignore the warning signs all around them. The [censored] about the ETA2892 and questioning our experts was intended to make any newbie even spotting the warning signs prone to doubting them. That is one issue that we can feel miffed about, but ultimately we can't do much about except maintain our dignity and be there when the newbs get a [censored] watch and come crying back to us. The trouble though is that these newbs are being milked to raise capital to then close the availability of reps on the market, and that is the bit that is not acceptable. edit to add... That reverse gear is getting used a lot today.....

All the above apart from Omega use the stock 2893, which is in fact just a 2892 with some extra gears on the hour pinion. Omega did their own thing with the 2892 to come up with the Cal. 1128 which does 'GMT' properly. Actually, our best bet for accurate GMT function would be to look towards some of the Asian movements that do it properly.
-
The 2893 is actually a pretty [censored]-poor 'GMT' movement. While it is a vast improvement on our bodged-up day-date conversions it still doesn't do GMT functions properly in the way a Rolex or Omega gen would - it amounts to an extra 24-hour hand and little more (ie. no independently settable, flicking hour hand).
-
No AR on the gen. I took the opportunity yesterday to compare rep and gen. From the front the main differences are the shape of the fat end of the big chrono hand (rep is slightly wider) and the shade of red used on the hands (gen looks slightly more orangey, but that could just have been the lighting). The inner bezel ring thing is a trick of the crystal. I still don't get this obsession with AR.

I can't believe I let that pig in my house ...

That is cute! -
Paid $1.9K delivered for a BNIB Gen P.O. What dya think?

Well snagged! I like it when someone gets a bargain like this. The 45mm too! A good choice of watch if only as an investment. You could sell it in a year for what you paid! Enjoy it -
Why do I find that funny?!?!?
-
Don't want to burst your bubble. What you have there is on a par with this. The bracelet in particular should look familiar to you!
-
Yes he is. That tag under his avatar is there to inform you of that. And you, sir, are an idiot.

chief is spot on. I can't vouch for the latest SMP rep as this model seems to have undergone a series of revisions (for the worse!!!) in the last two years, but the earliest examples of the 2824 based rep have a strap that is fully interchangeable with the genuine article.
-
Welllll - the Co-Axial SMP has these markers. There goes a missed opportunity - if the dial had been printed properly we'd have the first new-style SMP rep on our hands...!!
-
Actually, I see myself more as Moneypenny...... (and the watch stinks...)
-
Hmmm. Picasso's artwork isn't a 'parts bin special' though....

Don't you just love a newbie who (a) thinks every forum he joins came into being the moment they arrived and ( doesn't appreciate the irony of their own posts. @JohnnyChingas - go read, read, and read again some of the most popular threads in here and then if you think it is still necessary come asking your questions. In the meantime stop wasting your time and ours.
-
Some of our reps could to all intents and purposes appear to be genuine watches that have been serviced or repaired outside the dealer network using aftermarket parts. Had you kept your mouth shut that is probably what they would have assumed it was. Also, many genuine replacement parts will be missing serial numbers because the numbers only apply to completed watches.
-
I think the fact that you see plenty 'bumps' followed by price drops on these overpriced pieces means the seller is learning the hard way without someone thread-crapping. Often people are trying to lo-ball a deal by questioning price in public. Keep the ban on it in public - let the person do it in private, but then I doubt they will as they are usually not serious buyers.

2p's worth... Recently I sold my TAG Link Chrono. I sold it for exactly what I paid Neil for it (plus postage). The decision to put it up for sale was fairly spur of the moment. I advertised the watch as serviced, and the history of the watch from purchase, through ironing out QC problems, to its chrono failure and subsequent repair is VERY well documented in this forum. IMO this is why it sold within hours of it going up for sale. On the same day I purchased a TAG Carrera with SS strap - the price was low for the model. Very good pictures showed it was in perfect condition. The seller was even including a rubber strap. The seller was UK based so I negotiated a small discount on the total cost as the price had been advertised as including postage worldwide. The member selling it was someone I didn't recognise, but he had been a member for about 6 months with a low post count. I took a chance on the fact that two of the links in the bracelet were temporarily unusable as the pins had been broken, but this worked ok as I didn't need them to size it. Two very good deals but each done because of their specific merits. Often I'd consider paying a member as much for a watch as I'd pay a dealer for the raw piece as a decent member will have taken care of QC issues etc. I think generalising is unhelpful. If someone says a watch is serviced treat it as rubbish unless you can verify the info.
-
Didn't I explain that one at the time?! The SMP used on set for the distance shots was a GMT because it was the only Co-Axial movement SMP out at the time of filming. The decision to revert to the standard SMP for the promotional work was made late summer last year when the movie posters started to appear. They even re-shot the publicity picture of Daniel Craig holding the Walther!!

The recipe for the cocktail is EXACTLY as quoted from the Ian Fleming book - even down to the reference to a product name that isn't used any more, so if you think Gordons and Kina Lilet were product placement then Mr Fleming was 50 years ahead of his time And talking of being ahead of one's time... If you are confident about working with watches keep it and ask for another dial to be sent out at no charge to you. If not, insist on another exchange.
