  1. TAG Link or Carrera. Firstly for accuracy. Secondly because they are both simple and elegant.
  2. Sadly, the above does not appear to be the case. As Pug suggests, unless the dealers are prepared to offer aftersales warranties then pre-sale puff is exactly that. I think Neil has addressed this point more than adequately. He is at the coal-face and knows that what you are asking for is not practical. I personally would rather source my own watch repairs locally, which I have done, rather than add credence to a system that will give our dealers an excuse to push the price of our watches up with little or no way for us to verify that we have actually received anything for the extra cash. I mean, do you plan to strip down each watch on receipt to see if every wheel and pinion has been properly lubricated?!?!
  3. It's a long time since we've awarded Post-of-the-Month, but Zed - with this post you deserve it IMO. In the current climate of people requesting pre-serviced watches, and our dealers delivering 'exactly' what they asked for (ie. meaningless puff and mis-placed peace of mind for a lot more bucks), it is gratifying that someone (and please forgive me if this sounds a little patronizing) takes the initiative and sorts things out for themselves without resorting to a $500 movement swap.
  4. Solution to the dust-attraction issue with rubber straps. Pre-dust them. I found this out by accident. Try covering it in talc before fitting.
  5. What Pug said. Some people are just too trusting. If my local franchised garage think they can get away with double charging for service items, not changing the spark-plugs when they said they had etc. etc. then I sure as hell am neither going to believe or pay for a premium 'service' on a watch from afar. If this [censored] starts happening (and sadly it seems to be already) I'll gladly accept the huge discount on the non-serviced model, thanks....
  6. Oh dear. This is worse than 'who has the best sub?'. The Planet Ocean is probably the single most posted-about watch in this forum over the last 12-18 months. Talking about walking into a shoe shop and asking 'where's the shoes?!'
  7. It gets worse than that. They have actually repped the Honda C-RV 4x4 and the Daewoo/GM Matiz, and I don't just mean look-alikes.
  8. Just for future reference the answer to this is NO NO NO! Acetone is nasty stuff and would strip the paint finish off the bezel in short time. Longer exposure will attack the o-rings. Also, it has damn all effect on superglue. Heating it makes no difference either. Superglue is actually a pretty poor bonder of metals and I've found that a bezel stuck with it will often free up with just some brute force. If you end up out of pocket over this I'd seriously think about smearing some superglue on the seat of your boss's executive toliet.....
  9. Indeed. It is in fact only one letter of the product code that has been substituted. The strap is dimensionally identical to the genuine. Any fitting problems are arising from the use of springbars that are too thin. My own (ETA) uPO from River came with very high quality, thick bars. Another uPO I have handled ('lite' version from Trusty) used skinny ones that bent easily. Go figure.
  10. I can't think of any good reason to, except that you like waiting. The Silix strap is as good as a rep strap gets and available now.
  11. They didn't 'fix' anything. This watch (or rather the watch it is based on, with 2 parts substituted) never had the wrong Omega logo. This is the so called 5th generation 45mm Planet Ocean - the first one with correct 22mm lug size but incorrect caseback to accomodate the 2836 movement which is way too fat. Some versions also have incorrect date fonts and short hands, although it seems to be a lottery whether a particular watch will have either of these flaws.
  12. Can I chip in here in my inimitable style....? Muckreywetboy or whatever your name is - [censored] off if you don't like the response. You found us, not the other way around. If we can't help you with what is already contained in here then I doubt your enlightening presence is going to elicit more from us. Elitist? Maybe, but you are the one asking for something, so learn to play the game or go away.
  13. To be frank, neither is particularly good - both are a step back from the base watch in terms of authenticity.
  14. Doc has been pivotal in assisting Jay with the development of this watch, with myself throwing in some support in the background for good measure. That is why we both feel the disappointment more than most. I think this release underlines how much we don't know about what is going on in the rep watch making industry. The problem of course will be that all we can do is fill in the blanks with speculation. This watch is obviously the best PO Silix have available to them and have been selling for a while, with two parts changed. In that sense it is no different to the cartel version (ie. minimal development work went into their CR SE version) and when it hit the market I said at the time I reckoned it was a rush job to co-incide with the worldwide publicity surrounding the DVD release of the movie. I suspect that this is a similar rush job in order to offer a competing product to the cartel.
  15. Didn't you mean Pug - you're funny....? I'll get my coat.....
  16. This is the 5th generation 45mm PO with a new second hand added. This has been around for a while. Nothing else new about it.
  17. Clasp 'mushroom' attached using hollow rivet. Date font wrong (looks like early generation Asian rep).
  18. Clasp 'mushroom' attached using hollow rivet. Date font wrong (looks like early generation Asian rep).
  19. That is precisely what it is. 5th gen 45mm PO with the same flaws carried over - incorrect and faint date font, incorrect pearl and use of 2836 movement requiring a caseback that is too deep. I'm keeping schtum about what I think about the two new parts that have been added.

    That's where I pointed him
  21. I'm keeping my comments to a minimum, except to describe it as disappointing....

Precisely! It is a section for paid/VIP members only. Expect this thread to be deleted when Mods/admin catch up with it.
  23. The watch in question on this thread was an old, discontinued model and not a new one. The point of the exercise was to get production restarted so it shouldn't have been as onerous a task as getting a new watch made. If the tooling for the discontinued watch is gone then that is a separate issue though....
