  1. Any chance you could tell us the seller. There are loads of these aftermarket inserts on 'zee bay' and the majority of them are utter crap. Anyhoo - lovely to see this old-stager still holding its own in a world of super-pricey super reps. One thing that set this 'old factory' SMP apart was that it didn't just match the look of the original, it also matched the quality (and the bits that did fail could be replaced with genuine items!!). Something that can't be said of HBBs and Cousteau Divers.
  2. Your first choice of the Omega is absolutely fine, Daneel, and would be the one I'd go for. Understated and elegant, and not a million miles away from the gen. It is also a watch overshadowed by its stablemates Seamaster Pro and Planet Ocean so friends and acquaintances will be familiar with the name but not necessary the model, so it'll be appreciated rather than scrutinised!!
  3. Hear here. I think the OP says more about the 'jeweller' than the watch...
  4. I have no idea. It'll be a surprise, but of course if it is a girl I can shorten the name to Pam!
  5. Hey Kostas Our first is due in 15 days' time. I was going to get a watch dial engraved with its name too, but then I figured it would just be a lot easier to call it Panerai.
  6. For me this is not goodbye as I am fortunate enough to know I can call on Rob any time, but RWG is a far poorer place today because of this announcement. I hope that some people are seriously re-evaluating their position in this community right now.
  7. Am I the only one who finds the above statement extremely ironic? Perhaps Victoria your time would be better served examining, photographing and maybe even tearing-down some watches in the way The Zigmeister does and ubi used to do. If that is too much, then simply post some observations of your own vast collection and some of the issues you yourself have noticed in order to get the ball rolling, in the way myself, Pugs, ByTor, nanuq, dadog, chieftang, fitmic, repaustria, swdivad, crystalcranium, Bazz and dozens of others I apologise for not mentioning have done so often in the past. One of my earlier criticisms of this idea is that its originator seemed to be looking for something for nothing. All take and little give, beyond what can be trawled from other sources.
  8. OK, so maybe I exaggerated a little when I said a dozen times. @stagfan, as doc said, don't worry about the politics and post away - no need for sorries In fact, some pictures of the items in question would be a welcome return to normality. Freddy and Doc are bang on the button with your original question. The rest is just static. What you saw above was someone's nose going out of joint because another member they dislike got a reply in before them. The 'no' wasn't directed at you but aimed to contradict the advice of someone else, hence the uncharacteristic brevity.
  9. My sentiments re-iterated exactly (although I put it a bit more bluntly )
  10. Not trolling Ken. I was defusing the situation between Emmzy and Doc. Everyone is entitled to their opinion as I said, although I see that you only have eyes for one opinion at the moment and are throwing your weight around to enforce it (explain exactly, if you will for the benefit of the crowd, where my signature has gone.....?) The warning is unwarranted - you are overreacting. Victoria is capable of looking after herself - your job as moderator is to be impartial - remember?!
  11. And this thread sounds just like committee thinking. A brain-fart from some well-intentioned people who will discuss the matter to death before wasting valuable time and resources on a doomed project. But, if some people reckon it is a worthwhile enterprise then by all means knock yourselves out. I, however, have always advocated that this will, for the majority of intelligent people, achieve the same results. Bricky, we need you back here!
  12. Change the record please, Victoria. I've seen that posturing put-down over a dozen times now. It is simply an attempt to garner sympathy and it is wearing thin. Why not stop making a great play of saying over and over again that you are going to ignore people and just do it. @Emmzy - get off your high-horse please. Doc's point is perfectly valid, and his observations about Victoria's nails and pink strapped fiddy are factually accurate. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of taste and that is what this thread was all about until Victoria threw one of her characteristic hissy-fits over what until then was simply a difference of opinion. Let's not inflate this one into a slanging match too, please....
  13. Yeah. As I said... "who has the best sub"..... We'll agree to disagree on this one, but suffice to say that what you are asking for will never fit the bill. Too many watches, too many variants, plus the information is already out there and can't be condensed in the way you are suggesting. You are looking for the answer to life, the universe and everything (and it ain't 42).
  14. Exactly what I was thinking. All the answers for all our current reps are already contained within a myriad forum posts, and if anyone needs to know something specific there's always the search facility. This just smacks of someone who doesn't know as much as they pretend running out of bluff-and-bluster and now looking for a shortcut to enlightenment. The point is almost as inane as 'who has the best sub'. To the original poster - perhaps you should step back from the 'New Topic' button and spend a few days reading back on all that went on and was discussed about this very issue in the days, weeks, months and years before you graced us with your presence. Never a truer word spoken, Pugs. There is no substitute for time, research and experience.
  15. I wouldn't go patting yourself on the back quite yet Victoria. A quick scan of his posting history will show that Jay is quite capable of picking up on these issues himself without the need of any prodding from an interfering busybody....
  16. I'd like to see them try the same trick on a certain Scottish Ex P.I.
  17. The two movements you mention are one and the same. The difference is that Josh is a proven liar when it comes to describing his movements. There is no such thing as an Asian ETA 2813. The 2813 movement is not a calibre produced by ETA. It is a movement produced in China by PTS resources and is a distant copy of a Miyota/Citizen design. Calling it ETA is complete bullcrap designed to make you think it is something other than what it is. The prices are the same because the products are the same because the two sellers collaborate. Andrew seems to have a conscience about misrepresenting his products though. Josh clearly doesn't.
  18. I know for a fact Docblackrock got an email reply from Jay just last Friday...
  19. You may be surprised to learn that those screws around its circumference actually hold the bezel in place!!
  20. A hand tube up your nose is slightly less of a worry than swallowing and passing a toothed wheel... Yet another educational and informative report from the workbench of RWG's true master.
  21. A7750 movements don't usually pose a problem these days, especially the ones fitted to the Ferrari PAMs as they have had some complications removed and thus the strain on the movement is less. Any problems will be down to quality control rather than movement failure. Usual rules of dealing with 7750 apply ie. don't try to quick-change the date between 10pm and 2am, don't reset the chrono if it is any more than ten seconds either side of top-dead-centre (if you have used the chrono to time something and the hand stops past the 'safety zone' then restart the chrono until the hand is back between the 50 and 10). These rules apply as much to gen as rep 7750 movements! PS. The risks are slightly higher with GMT models though as the asian GMT modification of the 7750 is non-standard, so if anything breaks there are no sources for replacement parts.
  22. @tigerdaytona - the answer to the question is 'how long is a piece of string'. Personal experience of delivery times for me (in UK) ranges from 5 days to 5 weeks. The terms and conditions for postal services should be listed on the websites of the delivery agent for EMS in each country. In the UK it is Royal Mail/Parcel Force and they state that for standard tracked parcels they will not entertain a claim for a potentially lost package until a minimum 25 days have passed since the package was confirmed picked up from source (in other words anticipate up to 25 days as 'normal', anything less is a bonus). Processing a claim for compensation for a lost package takes up to 3 months to allow investigation. Also, the incident has to be raised by the sender.
  23. These Seawolfs are right popular...
