  1. Hi guys, thanks for your time ! How about just drilling the shallow 1.9 mm hole and glue only the head of the valve which basicaly is a 1.9 mm diameter, 1 mm thick disk ?
  2. Hi guys, I'm finishing my 1665 these are the ingredients : PT Case, shaved cgs and aged case, menaged to solve the gasket problem , it is actually very easy to get everything back toghether and working, I can describe if somebody is interested. Yuki dial 2846 ETA with silver DW correct open 6 9 and flat 3. It is an actual DW and not an overlay. TC hands Clark Crystal I'm looking for a tutorial on how to do the HE valve mod called "trompe l'oeil" or "zero leak risk" or "decorative" etc. I've serched the forums with zero results. I will post pics once finished.
  3. Hi guys, I'm going to get a TC handset for a PT 1665, which is the correct one ? 16610 or 16600 ?
  4. To make a long story short I sold a rep 1665 to fund a gen purchase and while I m o viously very happy with the gen I' m missing the vintagr 1665 which remains my grail. I just purchased a PT 1665 that I will send RA for mods, meanwhile since I had an MBk case sitting around collecting dust I introduced myself to the marvelous world of case modding, AKA grinding and sanding. As a reference I took a gen 1665 pic and my gen 16600, Let me say that I ve the submariner history and each watch seems to have its own CG shape, not sure if due only to polishing or even different shapes among different editions. I will let the experts judge.
  5. yes and yes to the above, cartel are also ok, may be even better If an heavy reshaping has to be done, but out of the box I think MBK/MBW are much better. A bit more difficult for reshaping though, not my word but those of a super modder. I ve had a 1665 done last year and used cartel + MBK mixes parts, very good results after rmods with NO gen parts.
  6. Don't get me wrong. It's a new watch and very easy to service, parts easily available, manintenance costs are very low for etas, in fact I can have the whole watch new from AD with 25% discount. This means you can use the watch without being concerned that if you damage it it will cost you 1K up. Not caring is another thing, this beauty deserves all the care and attention of the world. I would never use my 1991 16600 in certain situations though, but I would use this 24/7 everywhere...
  7. Ok, got a good example here. Let's say you go to a Rolling Stones concert, the music is what you expected it to be, great, you are 100 feet from the stage (as usual at big concerts) and can't see details. Suddenly somebody tells you that it is one of that amazing cover bands that sound and look alike. Is it the same experience ? No because you want to be in the same room with the guys that made rock history, you want to feel that vibe in the air, want to be part of that history, you want to think "hey those I'm seeing are the same guys that made rock revolution" music is important but any good cover band can play easy RS songs, may be even better tech wise, and without being drunk or stoned ...but it will never be the same.
  8. I just sold 2 high end reps to go gen, one was a TC and the other was a 1665 modded by RA. Got a 16600 gen and will get a Tudor Bb to replace the vintage (not the same for sure but I love the Tudor). TC was 90% there, but that 10% is what makes a gen special. Did it make a big difference ? No. Was it worth ? yes. I didn't like the idea of wearing a rep also, cause I knew it was a rep, bezel was ok but not 100% there, same for dial and crystal. But it's something very personal. It is also nice to own something that is the result of high craftsmanship, design and care for details. And as a plus a Rolex is always a safe place to put money in. The Tudor will somehow fill the hole left by the 1665, not the same thing but it's an amazing watch with the vintage vibe, enough for me. Also (this is psychological ) it s nice when you dream and desire something special and after some time you can buy it with the results of your work. Reps got me into the watch loop and I learned a lot about watches hanging on the various forums and that's great. Will I get other reps in the future ? May be watches I will not be able to afford and/or I won't be sure about. This is how it started "may be I like a Rolex" and got myself a TC, but when I was sure I wanted that watch to stay with me for long I went gen.
  9. tried it on today at the AD...guys it's a beauty !! It has more personality than my gen 16600 and absolutely worth the price (close to 2000 discounted ). The perfect watch If you like the vintage taste, want a gen and can t afford to spend 10k (up) on a vintage Rolex or even on a vintage Tudor. Not to mention this is the perfect daily beater and no worries to take it down in the water (wouldn't dare with a vintage piece) Definitly my next watch.
  10. Does anybody here has some kind of tech drawings for a 1665 Great White MK1 ? Page scan, dxf, 3D...anythig.
  11. as per PM I ll be in for a 1665, looking forward !
  12. used Rodico on the crystal and have seen that it's no good...bought the air pump (not the can, as suggested) and used that and jeez..as always a single spec of dust has been trapped inside, there was nothing when I put the crystal on and then after pressing it down there it is huge and proud on the dial...this is a nerves breaking job to be done. What really makes me nervous is that is always just one spec not 2 not 4...1 !!!
  13. thanks, from searching here and there I get : Air, an antystatic soft brush and Rodico putty cleaner.
  14. 10 days ago I opened my TC sub to put a new bezel ring, I had to take the crystal out, do the job and put the watch back toghether. When it got time to get rid of dust particles accumulated on the dial and the crystal I got mad and could not get rid of them all, I thought I did but now that the watch is closed I can see some here and there. Question is : what do I need to take those dust particles out ? a compressed air can ? a particular antistatic fabric ?
  15. I'll never understand a gen movement in a rep case.
  16. Hi guys. My endless quest for a better bezel for my TC 16610 may be over but I still have to solve 1 more problem. I bought a startime bezel and retainer from a member. I like the bezel wich is a very good upgrade to the TC (still think the TW or Sean are the best) only problem is that seller did not have the washer... and the assmebly doesn't work with the TC washer. With the TC washer the bezel goes on the retainer but doesn't turn, I think the problem may be the thiknes of the TC washer...not sure though. Does anybody have a startime washer to sell ? Or any other suggestion ? Also the bezel seems to pop off from the retainer too easily with just a sligh push of a finger but that may be normal when mounted without a washer...(???)
  17. 2836 not 2846, typing mistake.
  18. yes but I think the stem will be a bit stressed by the tension generated by the misalignment. Some tension it's ok and we are talking about a tiny difference in stem height. More or less same as fitting a 2824 in a Bk sub or a 2836 in a TC. The 2846 is the lower 2824 in between and 3135 the higher. Correct me if wrong.
  19. the same standard and poor's that' s screwing up everything I guess
  20. good to know guys, I'll wait for Clarck to restock what I'm looking for (bezel ass.) it seems the only reasonable alternative to gen. Thanks for the inputs !
  21. Thanks Aeromatic, sounds good ! I have a gen insert so not in need for that, what I'm looking for is a bezel ring with good pronounced teeth...
  22. Hi, on my quest for a good bezel ass. for my TC with gen insert I stumbled upon seller wholesaleoutlet on the bay does anybody know how this bezel ass. is ? They sell both bezel and retaining ring, here is the bezel : http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=170813164826&index=1&nav=SEARCH&nid=26333911745
  23. Very nice watch, I got a TC with gen insert, Clarck crystal and V3 bracelet, don't feel the urge to change the crown and the Clarck crystal is actually veeery good, but the bezel...man it makes me want to crash the watch on the table corner every time I see it. 400 $ for retaining + bezel + work is out of question, probably going to go for a clarck as soon as they will be back in stock...still have to figure out if it fits the watch.
