  1. Thanks! Yes, quite right. It’s an older build and ingod44 hasn’t been around for 2-3 years now. Agree with you about the tip of the second hand, it could be better. There’s an ETA second hand from Rafflestime with a more pointed tip (minute hand is wrong in this set though).

All the second hands I’ve seen need the tail trimmed too. Which is a bit of a pain to say the least!

Ruby’s 5517 dial is pretty good. The Tritium T slightly too bold perhaps:

    MQ good but pricy:

  2. 5517 MilSub. A very difficult to build to get right on a budget. Here’s my recipe below, by no means perfect:

    Cartel midcase and back

    WSO bezel assembly

    Phong insert

    Yuki pearl

    Ingod44 dial

Mixed handset, second hand tail trimmed

    Gen T19 service crystal

    Gen 703 crown

    Gen ETA 2846 movement

Phoenix NATO Admiralty grey strap, original supplier to MOD

  3. Hi! Ive been wanting to do a franken vintage 300 for a long time, considering that the 565 movements are pretty affordable it sounded like a nice project. Ive been in touch with another member on another forum who purchased a sillix rep and a gen dial and caseback. Unfortunately the gen dial and caseback had different sizes that the sillix one and were basically too small to fit. So using a sillix midcase kinda falls of. There are also cartel reps of the 300 out there, if anyone has one, could you measure the dial width and the caseback width to see if gen parts will fit? the sizes of the parts are:

    Sillix dial: 30.90mm
    gen dial: 27.50mm

    Sillix caseback: 34.97mm
    gen caseback: 34.16mm

None of the rep cases are suitable for a Franken build, including Cartel, all the dimensions are off. You can pick up a gen case from CousinsUK though.

  4. Very nice! I was hoping a rep of this would be made. The dial layout suits the positioning of the date window much better than the XVIII on which it’s based. Which to my eye looks as though it’s been positioned too far left. The longer hour markers and positioning of the numerals on the XI Tribute are better balanced. Pity IWC didn’t produce a no-date version, with a 38mm case, which would have been closer to the original 36mm XI. Here are the shots of the gen XVIII and XI Tribute; to see what I mean about the date window.
