  1. Does the Gen Guys appreciate, or respect to be more correct, the art of rep’ing? I read some notes at a “Gen Forum” about reps. They were very shocked, and angry, about that the possibility of using gen parts besides reps. In other words they were not respecting the quality handicraft these producers are making. In fact; it is piracy and only copying; but any way, either you like it or not; they are producing good products. As it becomes harder and harder to part a gen from a rep there will be harder fight between the two. “Everyone” knows that Mercedes Benz no longer are the King of Quality. The Japanese cars are far better in that way. Stronger product checks prevent they from putting the star at their bonnet…. But they have built up their own brand. Some years ago I read about the production of rep Ferraris. This were not those KitCars made out of MR2, but really fake from the bottom. How exact those were, I do not know. But of all possible products; Cars, paintings, pens and watches; Watches might be the easiest to sell. I am not quite sure if I will manage to keep a pen for a long time… When will we see a high quality “own branded” watches in "Andrew & Co’s" store? 8-)
  2. It is a pity, but some watches, that unfortunately are made in a "big" size, are not the real thing in smaler sizes... Then those of us, who like them, but not in size large, might have to live with that... "Like it or not!" (as Mike Rutherford sang) ... for us it will be; "Like it..." 8-) AfrikaansAlbanianArabicArmenianAzerbaijaniBasqueBelarusianBulgarianCatalanChinese (Simplified)Chinese (Traditional)CroatianCzechDanishDetect languageDutchEnglishEstonianFilipinoFinnishFrenchGalicianGeorgianGermanGreekHaitian CreoleHebrewHindiHungarianIcelandicIndonesianIrishItalianJapaneseKoreanLatinLatvianLithuanianMacedonianMalayMalteseNorwegianPersianPolishPortugueseRomanianRussianSerbianSlovakSlovenianSpanishSwahiliSwedishThaiTurkishUkrainianUrduVietnameseWelshYiddish⇄AfrikaansAlbanianArabicArmenianAzerbaijaniBasqueBelarusianBulgarianCatalanChinese (Simplified)Chinese (Traditional)CroatianCzechDanishDutchEnglishEstonianFilipinoFinnishFrenchGalicianGeorgianGermanGreekHaitian CreoleHebrewHindiHungarianIcelandicIndonesianIrishItalianJapaneseKoreanLatinLatvianLithuanianMacedonianMalayMalteseNorwegianPersianPolishPortugueseRomanianRussianSerbianSlovakSlovenianSpanishSwahiliSwedishThaiTurkishUkrainianUrduVietnameseWelshYiddish Detect language » Norwegian
  3. I had a gen Tissot PRS516. I did never fall in good mood. I had plans of selling it, but by some reason I replaced the strap with another... Black leather in stead fo brown. That really made it a new watch! Then the Tissot turned out to be among the favorites! Another story is my nice full size UPO! It was a great favorite that I was wearing a lot! Then I had an examination of my stomach at the hospital. They managed to destroy something down there, and I lost 20kg in a year… Then the sad part; A full size UPO became too large for my wrist… Now it is hardly used! I had it on for a few days a month ago. Still too large. Before that, it had not been used for more than a year… unfortunately…. 8-)
  4. I really wish those bastards the @¤%&§ worst! I do believe the best we can do is to keep track on the credit card and use safe browsers and antivirus, spam etc... Myself I am using a script blocker, and I am surprised about how many scripts (and where they are going!) that are blocked. But the easiest is to check for the httpS, the “s” that makes the different… If browsing and online shopping is safe? No, unfortunately…. 8-)
  5. Very difficult. The reps are often having good quality. You might be having bad luck and receive one with poor quality. Buying a gen you can be sure. At least that it in its original position should have good quality. There might be special features with a gen. Like Rolex is always creating their own movements and Omega has the Co-Axial movement. If you have a gen, you will known that. (At least _you_ will know. Breitling, Tag Heuer and others more or less modifies (more or less) standard ETA movements. I do not find that exiting. That is why I choose Rolex as (one of) my gen. BUT the reps gave me a good insight in the feeling of wearing the watch. Back to the question; Why rep? Why gen? It is hard. Something like; "try before by" and you might be very satisfied with the try. Yes, I think i like that. I did also feel quite honest in having some gens. It gives me some better conscience in buying reps... 8-D 8-)
  6. Those who create some or the major, bad reputation of the reps are the con artists. “Unfortunately” our reps are having a high quality finish and a close to the gen look. At RWG we are buying and selling the reps, we are telling each other that it is a rep. BUT somewhere in the shadow the one swindler is buying a good looking rep and from our factory and sell it as a gen! That is the sad chapter of the rep-hobby. Then honest people are being cheated with a rep. And that victim has some hard feelings to believe that rep-guys are honest! 8-) 8-)
  7. Well, it is not the size of it that matters, but the way you swing it! Or; "I have my cake, and I am eating it...."8-D
  8. One of the best things with gens is that you can try a type of watch for a reasonable prize. If you like it you can buy a gen if you like. I did that myself. Now I am wearing a gen two tone Sub. As a result of this I have asked myself what is special with a Rolex? I like the feeling and the look of it, and the knowledge of knowing it is a gen. I know, and not anybody else. But I am also a great fan of my franken SMP and plain rep UPO. The productions of reps are showing that the producers are having a good knowledge and are creating high quality products. What if the rep factories started to create their own brands? We all know the quality (and support) they would give to their products! I have a (gen!) Tao International. Chinese all the way. Perfect thing! But would you pay the same for this as for a rep of Breitling? I have not seen Tao International selling those “tribute watches” as the Gen-People call it. A tribute watch might look like a Submariner, but might has the name Seiko Submariner or something like that. I guess myself; I would not buy the “Tao International” Sea Wolf. Even though I know the quality is good, I know that. But one of our trusted dealers Sea Wolf; I would like that. Again; it has to do with feelings. The gen-factories has given also us the bands value and “bling value”. And we like it… (Guess I will go an swap to the franken SMP....) 8-)
  9. Weird and strange.... Good beat... remind me of.... "Forbidden Forest" on my Commodre 64 in the '80. I do not try to invoke anger! "We all" regarded the music on "Forbidden Forest" as some of the tops on the games in those days! (If some of you remember "Forbidden Forest" or knows what a Commodre 64 is....) 8-D
  10. Led Zeppelin! I like that! Well right now I am watching TV, but the favorite the last days have been an old killer; Manheim Steamroller - "Fresh Air 5". Avantasia (Tobias Sammet project) - "The Wicked Symphony" and "Angel of Babylon". That are part 2 and part 3 of "The Scarecrow" story. Music that will never die! Long live the Rock and Roll!
  11. Congratulations PowerMax! You have really done something great that most of us always will dream of, but never will do! You have given all of us great moments in reading your very fascinating blog! It is good to have you back! I am looking forward to read the rest of your blogging!
  12. A gen! That should not be any problems! Try "http://www.briljant.no/" "Briljant Ur og Gull" at Frogner. I would be very surprised if they do not help with your gen Raymond.... I have used "Briljant Ur og Gull" before and will give them the best recommendation. PH 8-)
  13. It is not often you are in need of service on reps. I have some, and there are only once I have been in need. I am still looking around, when I have the time. My best advice for you, at this time, is to look around when you are in town. Unfortunately there are fewer and fewer watchmakers around. Replacing battery is the most heavy work. I had a battery replacement on my Tissot T-Touch. I had to adjust it my self! Keep your eyes open, you too! Then there are more of us looking! 8-)
  14. My colleague bought a Carrera that needed a check after its arrival. This went to an abandoned watchmaker in Storgaten. Across the street of SpaceWorld by Oslo City, (City? Oslo is a town!). This store did at this time contain a travel agency. But out of the smoke from the back door; the watch maker came! Boooh! I visited this shop on Thursday. Unfortunately; closed down! Nothing left! Just an empty room. Let us check out what we can find! PH 8-)
  15. Hi! Do anyone know a clockmaker in Norway that can take a job? I would prefer Oslo, but inside Norway could do... 8-)
  16. I guess the text contains something like "this is a very rare omega...." 8-P
  17. CONGRATS! Cool to hear about lucky trades on the-bay! 8-D
  18. Well. Some problems with PhotoBucket. On the preview the photo came up...
  19. This is a funny picture from my summer holidays! I was up in the north of Norway with my wife and children. The place was Lofoten, Svolvær. It is above the Arctic circle. To the north of this the sun is up and shining all day and night during the summertime! And, the information that you might be interesting in; What kind of watch do you wear on a travel like this? My Tissot T-Touch of course! The ultimate travel watch with the compass. It is very useful, especially in the north! As you can see on the picture, (I am again trying to get it in from Photobucket. Wish me good luck!), my T-Touch is in front. Take a good look at the watch! It is in compass mode. The north-hand is pointing directly towards the sun!! The sun is in the north! The small different between the north-hand of the compass and the sun is a result of the (magnetic) declination. The different between the magnetic north and the real north. I have adjusted my T-Touch for the declination that exists in Tufsingdalen, an area shortly south of Røros.(A few centimeters further south on a map). This declination is not the same as in Lofoten! Any way, the time is 00:04 and it is the 28'th of june.... and the sun is shining from the north! It was an amazing view! I will really recommend you all to visit Lofoten if the opportunity should come up! PH 8-)

  21. I will try to see if my current desktop picture will be inserted in this link. Picture from Gran Canaria/Pouerto Rico. <a href="http://s1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd462/petterhg/?action=view&amp;current=Solnedgangogboelger3-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd462/petterhg/Solnedgangogboelger3-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> I just love the Gran Canaria Islands 8-)
  22. I have always been a fam of the Gun Barrel Seamaster... Yourtrystytime have a nice one of these. ETA movement etc. 8-)
  23. I had a Navytimer. The E6B-beazel did not calculate right! <ROFL> Any way! During this period I studied the manual posted on this forum to really learn how this E6B was working! I could not believe the beazel was not constructed the right way! I was sure it was me to blame, but it was not me.... I bought a new Chase-Durer (gen) to test, and; The E6B bazel is working! (The Chase-Durer is for sale). 8-)
