This beauty has made its way up and down the West Coast since taking life here. I was fortunate enough to take possession of her this morning.

A reshaped Oyang and reshaped Athaya

You need a movement ring for the molnija 3602. Rivet dials need a little extra clearance for the protruding rivets. Mount the hour hand after attaching the dial to the movement to check if you have the height needed for clear the rivets. If not, you will need either a taller hw/cp or tall tube hands.

That is a possibility. If you have the bezel, threaded ring and case back screwed together without the mid case in between, measure the gap between the bezel and case back lips. It needs to match the thickness of the mid case. If not, you are on track. The threaded ring needs to be reduced in height. Something to keep in mind is that the total height of the movement and dial needs to be flush or shorter than the total height of the ring. If not, you will face a different build problem.

The brass block basically prevents the ring from spinning in the case. The cutout in the ring is longer than the block, but very close to matching in width. You screw the bezel on to the point where the stem hole in the movement lines up with the tube. You can geek out with measurements and math or use your vision to look through the tube to check.

It is not right. They should tighten all the way up to snug on the mid case. Everything is designed to fit together so nothing wiggles around. Either one or both of the bezel and case back is not screwed in all the way. Be careful not too screw one in more than it should in comparison to the other. That will cause the stem to not line up in the tube correctly. That will be bad for the stem and movement.

Those are pure fantasy builds. In fact, Neckyzips made a case based off of the depth gauge case shape. Again, pure fantasy.

A 3646 is essentially 4 pieces. Mid case, bezel, case back and threaded movement ring. The bezel screws onto the top of the movement ring, while the case back screws in from the other end. They should both screw in far enough to snugly sandwich the mid case between the bezel and case back. Yes, the domed plexi is the volcano. As far as where to start, you need to pick a case first. After that, it is all down hill. Of course, your budget determines what parts you are going to start gathering to build. Pick a watch you like and we can go from there.

Then there are thinner with a volcano

You know the drill regardless of what brand you get in too deep and wide with. With the vintage Panerais, you start with say a 6152/1. The classic vintage Panerai with that big crown guard sitting there all proud. Then you see the sleek 6154 with the pretty crease running along the sides. Then you see the 3646, which has its very own beauty from the elegant angles that come together at every corner. Then you find a 6152, which is a blending of the 6152/1 and the 6154. Then you find a one off where it looks like someone at Panerai decided to modify the 6154 to an even thinner mid case with the lugs butted off. They did not even bother really naming it. Then you see a 3646 based mid case where the wire lugs are not there, but instead they have welded four fixed lugs on. Then you find another case that looks like the lugs are curved like a horn. Creatively, they call it a hornlug. LOL. Then you can go off into chasing the Mare Nostrum and the Mille Metri. If you want to keep sliding, you start adding more than one of each of these given there are multiple versions of each of them from types of movements inside to dial types even looks of how the dials have aged, not to mention the sewn on straps on the 3646 with closed wire lugs means you need multiple case just to have the right combination of types of leathers. People around you start wondering what is going on with you.

Someone mentioned a slippery slope? Don't look at the vintage Panerai scene if that worries you...
