  1. I couldn't stand the failed woody dial any more, so I built wood dial v1.3... The primary inspiration, was the black-dialled 'mystery', which Freddy sports on occasion. My aim was for a dress watch, and I have to admit, I think I've wound up with something which, while definitely elegant enough to be a dress watch, could also actually see daily wear without being too over the top, as darkening the dial has definitely made the presidential bracelet appear less 'blingy'... I'm still going build a v2.0 which will have hour markers, as I have to be honest, a dial without them just doesn't satisfy my slightly OCD need to be able to tell the precise time. Sure, it gives an estimate, but I like a bit more precision... Still, it'll provide me with a wearable dress watch until the time that I can build the replacement dial Of course, other than that, the Tudor is still firmly attached
  2. That's a nice watch It looks a bit like a hybrid of a Bell & Ross, and a Panerai
  3. Thanks, R, it's just frustrating, as the project was going well until that point. It didn't help that Emily was trying to demand my attention, despite seeing I was busy, so that took my mind off the task just enough that I failed to realize that I'd missed out one of the mounting holes in the dial... That aside, I do like how the rest of the dial looks color-wise, and I'm surprized how darkening the dial from the Rhodium dial, has made the watch much less 'blingy'. I have a few ideas to salvage the project tomorrow, which would be similar to the black-dialled 'mystery', with just the Rolex Coronet at 12. Ultimately, I will perform a full dial transplant for one with the rectangular luminous markers, but I want the watch to at least be wearable until then, and I wouldn't really consider it wearable at present
  4. So Emily decided that the DJ was 'too masculine' for her. I'd already decided that, in factory condition it was too blingy for my taste, so I decided to press ahead with my wood vinyl experiment I am not happy with the outcome of this test, as, through my own stupidity, the 8 marker got snapped, so I had to use glue to actually hold it in place That has really irritated me, as the other markers went back smooth as silk... Oh well, V2.0 can only be better Here it is...
  5. The datewheel looks good to me The full gold and two-tone Rolexes always have the champagne-colored datewheels, so that's accurate I'm no expert on datewheel fonts, so I can't say for sure there, but, I would say that it certainly looks nice and clear A fine watch indeed
  6. I would say that the color of the dial is stunning The only thing I would ask, is how well has the gold lasted? If you were to transplant the movement/dial and hands, entirely 'as is' into a modern two tone DJ case, you'd have a very nice watch
  7. Damn, that looks awesome, and totally authentic to the history mentioned Absolutely fantastic project
  8. I wish I could say I did it, bro, but it was done by a friend who, at the time, was only just getting into tattooing. He's in his fourties, so been an artist longer than I've been alive, but he only recently got into actually tattooing. If I recal, when he did that one, he'd been tattooing (on pig skin) four months, and only tattooing on people for four weeks (and then only a handful of people) Since then, his work has only come on in quality, and is even better than it was then. I think he could easily 'become a name' in tattooing, and make some good cash doing it, and he's the artist who will be doing my Japanese bodysuit when I can spare the cash. You're absolutely right about the ointment. In the UK, we have one called Bepanthen, and that's what I used to heal that one up. It healed within a week, and as you say, no scabbing or itching
  9. Awesome work, bro, it's looking great
  10. Here's my entry Not bad for the work of a trainee
  11. No need for me to determine, the man is well and truly in the club, with such a fine example
  12. Wow, that's an absolutely fantastic watch, kudos indeed on such a fine build Gorgeous photography as well Welcome to the party
  13. Many thanks, I'm glad you're liking the review Having tried on a gen DateJust, and worn the budget DJ for a few hours, I think I can safely say that the presidential look simply isn't me, and I think I might find a DJ a little too small to become my beater (for example, if I had one like Captain Jack's, I don't think I would wear it instead of my Submariners) However, I'm definitely going to get a DJ as a dress watch. I'm looking at a few various options, and even considering custom-building something so it will be 100% what I have in mind, but, as with all things, only time will tell I've mentioned before that I if I could only have one watch, then I would consider a Yacht-Master as that watch, but, I have to admit, something like Captain Jack's DJ (which I suspect to be a date-window AirKing) would also be considered as an option, and probably be much less eye-catching and less suspicious than a Yacht-Master
  14. Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it Here's the source Ahh, I didn't know that, thanks for the clarification I guess I am so used to bezels having a timing function, I didn't consider it being a purely mechanical function

  16. That's a fantastic example of vintaging, definitely my kind of watch
  17. That's a fantastic acquisition
  18. That's my eventual goal (well, the no-date variant )
  19. Taking my cue from Stephane today
  20. I've never been one to wear two at a time, but it sure is awesome to see the right hand ink
  21. You're absolutely right, in terms of replication of the original, it misses out considerably, however, I was judging it purely on it's own flaws and merits as a watch, rather than as a replication The variation in color on the dial is something which doesn't totally capture in the photos, it's much 'richer' to the naked eye You're right, it might well get some attention, what I was meaning, was DJs in general (such as Captain Jack's for example) are very low-key watches. Almost a 'sleeper' one might say Yes, the screw was slightly proud when the photo was taken, but well and truly tightened down now
  22. Thanks I think you're right about them being the best value around The amount of variants makes it harder to pin down precisely how 'a watch' should look, and, cash-wise, as you say, low-key enough not to attract any undue attention
