  1. Can't wait to see the rhodium dial! The white will be a nice rep to have too.

Hopefully they'll get the brushed satin finish that you get with the rhodium dial.

Absolutely :) Given the finish of the less accurate Yacht-Masters, I would think that they would be able to replicate it easily enough, I think the real question though, is, given the popularity of the watch, might this be one which gets a 'basic' release, only for a V2, V3 Ultimate V released in quick succession :D

  2. Indeed awaiting the same one, though the rhodium dial is somewhat harder to rep I guess.

Maybe :) That said, how the dial looks on the less accurate Yacht-Master reps, (Silvery 'sunburst') I don't think it'd be too far from that finish to get the UN correct :) I'm really surprized they've repped all these models so far, and 'left that one till last' :)

  3. It really is strange, but they work well together oddly enough.

I checked my mail on the way to work and the strap had arrived. I was wearing the Milgauss that day, so I figured why not try it out? :pardon:

Why not indeed, they work well together :) The Milgauss' lugs are thick enough that the strap doesn't over-power the case :good:

  4. Here is my submission. I thought that an obvious color scheme should be gold, silver and bronze to denote the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The categories are are easily identified by the camera icons. I wanted to give this thing a simple but elegant look that would be eye catching but not overpowering. Hope you like what I've come up with!

Very nice :) This gets my vote :good:

  5. I polished it on the buffer wheel and it perfect now. It took some scratches out but its still pretty scratched. I didn't realize how awesome the buffer wheel actually is. I think im going to do this to all my reps.

Awesome :) Have you put a few major dings into it as well? Once the wabi-sabi aesthetic gets you, you're hooked

  6. I'll never understand vintage. I won't even leave my house unless I look spotless. And I live in a shack.

    Pristine is over-rated

Okay, sure, it's one thing to wear clothes which are clean and not falling to pieces, but some things (and I think watches fall into this catagory) just look better, and certainly feel more personal, when they've acquired a few knocks and scrapes :) When I was younger, I used to get a new watch every year, and until it picked up its first ding, all the time it was still 'factory new', it didn't ever feel like it was 'my watch'. I remember seeng a Biker Buildoff where one builder had an OCD about being worried about getting new things damaged, so what he'd do, as soon as he got something new, be it a helmet, a bike, etc, he'd dump it on the floor to intentionally mark it up, so he wouldn't have to worry about keeping it pristine anymore  Sure, it's nice to keep a nice watch in a reasonable condition for special occasions, but even then, that's no need to turn a watch into a safe queen

  7. Hmmmmn..:g:, one whole suitcase for just the shoes, you pack like my wife!

I spaced them out a bit for the photo, but they packed smaller, and I still managed to get in my clothes, without the need for a second case or bag, just my usual LV messenger bag, from my man KB, for the little things like magazines, drinks bottles etc :)

omni - Well, if you lots can find me a good price on a pair of black python boots I would be interested to add them to the collection :)

TJ - Your spose to have a foot fetish, not a shoe fetish

You know, of all the fetishes there are, feet is the one thing I can never get my head round... Besides, my shoes aren't a fetish, just a collection :whistling:

  8. That's a fantastic and very comprehensive review, thanks for taking the time to put it all together :good: It's interesting how the rep actually has a few improvements over the gen, such as the bolder date font, and bolder wave-pattern in the bezel insert, and I would agree, that these are definitely worth calling improvements, rather than 'flaws in replication', as they enhance those aspects of the watch :good:

  9. Off the back of what you've just said Ubi. Surely the real problem is that if the chinese rep makers can make the same quality pieces as these 'refined swiss experts' then we are simply paying too much for Gens, or believing too much in them. What I mean is, the real 'tell' should be the fit, quality of finish and 'feel' of a Gen. It 'should' be unreplicatable to be worthy of its status..

All the gens have huge marketing jargon behind them: "This piece was individually forged by hand in the depths of mount doom, and has taken 10 years to complete", but if the Chinese can make exactly the same watch bar the movement then surely something is wrong here!

Really if anything, the rep industry is now basically exposing much of the gen watch market for its overinflated pricing and self important marketing.

You know; I've used this example before.. but I'd like someone to really point out the real reason behind owning a gen 16610 over a WM9 without regurgitating Rolex marketing Jargon, talking about resale value, or mentioning the servicing. (Lets overlook the End link fit)

..and thats using a Rolex as an example. A name synonomous with 'perfection' that constantly tells us how much effort and great machinery it takes to create their pieces.

At this point, aside from the whole 'zen' of gen ownership which is essentially created by marketing, I cannot begin to think why I would purchase a gen yellow seawolf. What can the gen possibly offer me that the rep does not. What would Breitling say it offers me? The ability to send it in for a

I decided to re-assemble the GMT I wore in Tokyo.

Okay, so I killed the movement, then butchered the dial experimenting with letter-removal techniques, but I'm determined to restore it to it's... well, 'former glory' isn't quite the right word, but certainly get it working again  One problem I'd faced, was installing the crystal properly to ensure a water-tight seal, which I first achieved through epoxy, but this time, I've done it simply by pressing the crystal firmly enough into the gasget to get the seal, so I plan on wearing it in the pool if I go swimming later, just to test that, I'm not crazy enough to wear it in it's current condition ;)

  11. UPDATE: it's not high beat;

"This watch is not 28800bph.. It is 21600bph.. It used to be 28800bph.. Sorry ..I forgotten to update the website..."

Which is disappointing but I can live with it for the price. He's changed the website so at least no-one else will make that mistake.

It arrived with a loose marker at the 5 o'clock (the little white "lume" had fallen out) so I've sent it back for a replacement.

One the strap front, I'm toying with the idea of a milanese (mesh) strap or maybe that hirsch carbon like Kyle. The reason is the International Watchman only take US bank checks or transfers which is a bit of a hassle if you're not in the US. I may also go for a black leather with white stitching since I can't see any other nice crocodile straps at a good price.

Sorry to hear that, but it probably would've been easier to re-fit rather than the hassle of a return... Best of luck :)
