  1. I don't think it's available as a stick/roll on, and it has denatured alcohol, rather than alcohol-free, but this has been my preference for a while now :) As far as I know, it's only available from Mercadona in Spain, but it's a great anti-perspirant and has a really nice clean, soapy fragrance, not at all over-powering :)

  2. Wow... Really. They are that bad?.... ppl with experience dealing with them, please chime in.

Yup. I bought a Sub insert from them a while back, and the product was totally unacceptable, in terms of their "You won't be able to tell it from the real thing" bs. When I contacted Faisal about it, he acknowledge that there was a problem with the factory specs, but refused to admit that his description was misleading, and dared to give me negative feedback calling ME a liar, when all I'd put was that the product was distinguishable from the real thing, so it was a misleading sale. I saw him post the same feedback on anyone else who dared to question his transactions in any way... Sure, he offered me a refund, a return, or a new insert, but that was never the point. It would have cost me more in travel and postage to return it than it would to buy the insert, so I would only have been losing money, even if he'd issued a full refund, so I just put it in the trash and moved on. He might have pulled his socks up since then, but my first comment still stands with regards me becoming a return customer  Best of luck :)

  3. Anyone bought from wholesale outlet 990 on fleaby these last 48 hours. I can't seem to make payment.

They don't ship to Singapore but i have a US PO box address in CA. ANyone having problems with them as well.

    Cheers

Consider it lucky that you can't make a payment. I'd rather slam a car door on my nuts than deal with Faisal again

  4. Precisely. Unless the said watch is intended to deceive.

On another note it reminds me of what Ferrari did with their FXX. You are buying a program, you don't own anything and that simply implies that you can't do anything to the car. But sadly most Swiss Manufacturers are not Ferrari :bangin:

Of course, if there's any intent to deceive, then yes, absolutely actionable, but other than that, I think it's taking 'intellectual property rights' a bit too far... Afterall, the person is buying the item permanantly, not renting or leasing it... Crazy...

I was also thinking custom, but the thing with this term is it generally refers to something being made to order or as ordered by a customer. I don't think that quite fits. Composite on the other hand simply refers to something that is made from different parts. A more general term but I think it fits better.

But surely that's the key 'point' to the definition? For example, take these two project subs of mine...

    DSCN1625.jpg

The one on the left, I would definitely agree to fitting the definition of a composite watch, as it is assembled solely from whatever spares I had lying around to make a 'complete watch'. However, it is not really built to my personal specifications/preferences, as I didn't have the option of 'choices' with the parts... However, the watch on the right, although not 100% complete, I would say fits the definition of a custom watch, as (excluding parts to come, and the bleach damage to the insert) it was actually built with the parts I wanted to install, to give the result which I wanted (essentially, I wanted to build a 'sleeper' sub). Even if I was to sell the vintage sub on to someone else, I feel it would retain the custom title, as the manner in which it was built, was to a custom plan, where the NATO Sub, was never really 'built to a plan', just fabricated from the spares which were available :) If that makes any sense :D

Perhaps a hybrid TERM would suffice gentlemen? B)

Indeed, but what would that term be :D

  5. I don't see the problem with customizing genuine watches. Most all diamond watches that have diamonds added are denoted after market so the consumer knows what hey are buying. I remember a story about a dealer that was arrested and sued for adding aftermarket parts to genuine Rolexes eve after disclosing it. Ridiculous. Next we wont be able to buy or sell modified cars.

Crazy. I can understand it 'voiding the warranty', but to sue someone over it... Corporate Protectionism gone mad :(

  6. Thank you (ALL) for the thoughtful compliments.

I did not do anything to the insert, only the dial (I forgot to indicate that above), hands & bezel.

Dial - I smeared a very light coating of black shoe polish around the area of the center hole, being careful to avoid the gilt lettering. The shoe polish gives the dial a hint of the dial's 'original' color.

Hands - My usual recipe - lume treated with iodine & then hands baked in the oven (along with some scrumptious chocolate chip cookies) until the desired result is achieved.

Bezel - Same as above, but without the iodine.

He did not carry it until I requested it. This case is apparently his 1st 6536/1. And for anyone contemplating a similar project based on this case, I would consider using 1 of the Silix Sub cases that I used for the 6542 project. The reason is that Yuki's case, while it does have better engravings than the Silix cases, is cut a bit too large so the dial just barely fits without falling through. I have been going back & forth with Yuki over this (he maintains that his case is correct & my (27mm) dial is too small (the gen is also 27mm, so make of that what you will), but I suspect there is little they will do about it. I think I could have achieved the same thing using a Silix case at less than 1/3 the cost of the Yuki case ($650).

That's interesting to know about the shoe polish, the effect is most impressive :) I just noticed, that the strap is 18mm, as Connery-Canon :) It's the little touches like that which make you the master :good:

  7. That's one awesome watch, my friend :good: Out of curiosity, what is the mod you performed on the insert to increase patination? It's seeing your projects which inspired my own efforts to such things :)

  8. My Suunto is 50mmm but looks more in proportin.. (imho)

I agree, your watch looks much more balanced and in proportion :)

And regarding the divers watch, they are often meant to be weared outside the weat-suite, so size aint so bad at this one...

Absolutely, but that Oris is such a diver's watch which should only be worn over a wet suit and kept in storage with said diving equipment, not worn on dry land

  9. I actually quite like that, which is weird, as B&R don't normally grab my attention... Maybe it's the Russian writing, maybe it's the price... It's just a shame that it's the day/month/24 hour display rather than stopwatch... Might be worth picking up as a beater... :)

  10. The GMT IIc is a fantastic watch :) It's the only gen Rolex, to date, which I have tried on, and actually been impressed with. DateJust, Explorer I, Explorer II, 16610 Submariner, they've all left me feeling either unimpressed by the feel of the watch, or feeling it was too small... The GMT IIc, however, I think is an awesome watch. I'd go so far as to say one of those watches which should be in every collector's collection, simply because it is so awesome :)

    Wear it well :good:

  11.

Such a watch should only ever be worn over a diving/space suit...

From a design point of view, it has the same bezel/dial size ratio which I find with the SFSO... It's like putting a Submariner dial in a 45 Planet Ocean case... If the dial was a few mm larger, I think it would look more balanced :)

  12. I was not aware of the problems with the Vector, a friend of mine had one through 4 operational deployments and never complained of any of thoes issues.

You could always go to a G-Shock Pathfinder which has the compass and is solar powered meaning no batteries to worry about.

I have to admit, those were the only negative reviews I read, but I thought it only prudent to make mention, given the potential conditions the watch will have to endure :)

  13. Yeah obviously im not going to be looking for ETA parts in a small indian village... but if it dies I can always repair when I get home.

Thanks for that tip jdkno, i acutally kinda like the look of the white version and at $200 the price is very agreeable.

    100666KHAKI0000.jpg

One thing I have heard about the Vector, is that there can be issues of the battery life, and have seen a review online, where some of the functions were criticized as unreliable... Sorry I can't contribute any other suggestions, but I just wanted to let you know what I'd heard about the Vector :) (even if it was a one-off occurence, if you're going to be in 3rd world situations, you want something which you have absolutely zero concerns about... Best of luck with your search :good:

  14. Nope Freddy, slow and clunky as hell on Safari 4.

Suppose that's my fault for being....what was it T called us Mac users?.....oh yes, that's right "Apple fanboys". Hmmm.

I'm running Safari 4, on a download which makes Vista emulate OS X. The forum loads pretty quick for me... :)

  15. It's good to hear you're on the mend, brother, and indeed, good that you can find humor in those trying times :) When things start getting tough, I consider the platypus, a sure sign that the Big Kahuna has a sense of humor in His plan :) As the Vulcans say, live long, and prosper :)

  16. Fine watches' my brothers of horology :good:

I'm still wearing this, it only comes off my wrist for me to appreciate it closer :) I'm not sure if it's my imagination, but the caseback (with correctly spelled interior wording) seems to feel heavier that the stock factory caseback... The watch certainly seems to feel heavier with it installed... Heavier or not, it feels great to wear :)

  17. WTF?!

Are men with electric razors allowed to wear non-ticking watches? :)

Just joking, of course. I use a badger brush, shaving soaps of many origins and (only when I have the time) a straight razor (like the one Mr. Blonde used in Reservoir Dogs).

Real men read here: Razor FAQ

    Val.

Sacrelage, I know :D To be honest, I always used to shave with Gillette razors (or had a full beard) but since I started shaving my head, it's more economical to use electric clippers for most days, and an electric foil shaver for 'special occasions' when I want to get 'wet shave close' :)
