That's an awesome review Something I must say though, and this seriously surprised me...
The orange markers glow blue??!! WTF?!?! That has seriously confused me, as I would have expected it to have been an orange glow. Not that that's meant as a negative point, quite the reverse in fact, but it's something I would never have expected.
Out of curiosity, how do you find the clasp in terms of security? I really like how it looks, but I'm wondering if it would be possible for the clasp to be accidentally opened if it knocked against something, where the oyster clasps have the security retainer on top of the clasp...
Other than those curiosities, all I can say is what an awesome watch

Hmmm I'm not so keen on the Tudor dial with the metal surrounds on the indices... I guess my tastes are more vintage than I realized
-
That really is a fantastic project, bro, kudos indeed

OK gang we need to get passed step one which is what watch to build. I have agreed to head up this project but I need the communities help too.
patinga has generously offered his help with gen Rolex parts.
TeeJay has chimed in with his possible contribution.
I know of a certain member who is willing to put up a very nice custom made brass piece if we go in the Vintage Panerai direction.
Let's get this project rollin'!
I'm not sure if it would be of any use, but I definitely have a bezel I'd be happy to donate (the one I installed on my project sub then removed ) Of course, once I have the cash to get my main projects underway, I'll have even more spares which I'd be happy to donate as well

Red Sub for today:
Now that is nice Real aging rather than vintaging?

Thanks, R!
My first Homage project PAM for Thurs:
Lume Shot:
That's looking really nice, bro

Thank you.
Terrible. The beauty of the Mystery is its use of white space - large areas of blank or solid color space that allows the viewer's eye to rest while focusing its attention on the main design component/s.
That's true, I guess it certainly is a very minimalist design I think if I were to acquire one, I'd only use it as an 'occasional/formal wear' watch, as the last time I had a watch without indices, I found it quite awkward to use for time-keeping, as I prefer the 'reference points' of the indices, a bit like I'm not too keen on the GMT PAMs which don't actually feature the 24 hour markings. I guess I still need the basics, rather than the more 'advanced user' features
On another note, even though I reversed the modification and re-installed the original bezel, I'm really pleased with the actual procedure itself, as the bezel came off with just a twist from a pocket knife. Probably too tight to pull off with bare fingertips, but certainly not a removal which could result in damage to the case, bezel or the click-spring going flying Mission accomplished :

The Mystery's a fantastic looking watch I often wonder how it might look with indices laser-etched into the underside of the crystal
-
The abuse modification of my project sub continues Those of a delicate nature might like to look away now
[Edit to add]
Since making this post, I've removed the bezel and re-installed the original, as I felt it was starting to look 'too modern'. Really need to get myself a nice MY coin-edge bezel

The watch on my wrist, my project sub, was inactive for at least a year, but keeps excellent time I don't think I can give any better advice than what Freddy has already said, other than to add not to be unduly concerned
-
I'm really pleased to see positive reports starting to filter through

That's a fantastic review, thanks for taking the time to put it all together The MMD is certainly a captivating watch. If there was a decent rep made, I might be tempted to get one
-
I really wouldn't like to say for sure... Ceramic is often used due to it's 'anti-scuff' properties... Any attempts to scuff it might just cause it to shatter... Best of luck though
-
Looking at the pearl, it looks like the glass over the lume has been cracked. Might this be an aftermarket bezel insert?
-
PS It's not pronounced 'GrenWitch'...
-
"This is, like, the lowest depth oriented watch you can get..."
Perfect should a pilot wearing a pilots watch have to ditch in the ocean then
Did anyone else notice that the bracelet was on backwards?
-
I wouldn't like to comment about the crown, but the dial could certainly be fixed to the movement with 'dial dots' (or tiny bits of double-sided tape, for those who prefere 'barnyard engineering' ) As you've got the parts, you'll probably only be looking at a fee based on an hourly rate Best of luck with your project

Here you go TJ...

Thanks for the link, I've bookmarked it for when I can spare the cash (hopefully not too long )

I don't think any one is hotter or cooler than the other, the key is the style of tropic straps having the perforations and/or cutouts to let your wrist breathe.
Most new tropic style straps sold might be say rubber but are actually silicone. Bear in mind TJ that original (NOS) rubber tropic straps such as ones sold by Squinky on ebay smell like old tires and its seriously pungent!!! I don't wear mine for that reason and dumped them and switched to silicone. Modena Watch sells a tropic style in silicone that looks very similar to original tropic straps but have been updated a little with less taper and are thicker. My FF lives on one of the newer tropics as well as a number of my subs during parts of the year and doesn't feel like I'm wearing anything.
That's definitely interesting to know, thank you I'm not too concerned about the cost (within reason, of course ) as I'd rather save up for something better, which I will definitely get more use out of, than I would to buy a cheaper alternative which might not meet my needs (as in the case of my solid silicone dive strap )
With a tip from tmg, I purchased a tropic style strap from Modena Watch. It is very comfortable in the heat and a bargain at 13 bucks.I certainly like the look and pricetag, I'll have to have a look at those, thanks

flexible as paper and not n the least bit plasticky. The holes let the skin breathe. Cooler than silicon. Wearing it now. You can't go wrong with it. You'll spend less on the silicon though...
That's awesome to hear, I had a feeling the holes would help with ventilation (as well as drainage) I might have to try and invest in one when funds allow Thanks for the input

A "pocket watch" is a "watch"; that's why they call it a "pocket watch". There are some very elegant (and expensive) pocket watches available. I've not seen too many replica pocket watches however.
Indeed, a pocket watch is a watch, and pre-dates the wrist watch. However, a pocket watch would be a redundancy for me. My phone has the time on it, and I could always use that as a 'pocket carried time-piece'. That said, I prefer to wear a wrist watch, and actually don't really like putting things in my pockets at all... Thanks for your input though
just middle o' July here yet, but the NOS Tropic on my FF is aerated/perforated, and just 20mm to boot, quite comfy.Awesome, how would you describe the texture? Are they quite soft and flexible, or harder and more 'plasticky'? I have to admit, the pics I have seen make them look, well, not uncomfortable, but not as soft as silicone straps Would you say that the tropic strap is cooler than silicon?

From what I understand it was part of the Welshmans own collection, he considered it was a personal embellishment to the character having read the book which was the greatest comment on consumerism since Abigail's Party.
That's a pretty cool I haven't read the novel, but given how much I like the film, I'm sure I'd love the book

Yep, confirmed, 2T Datejust on a jubilee band. Very "See that, thats your Timex that is"
It was a TT one? Interesting indeed
