  1. I just did a search (I can't get hold of the DVD at the moment) but I wondered if anyone knew if Christian Bale wore a black-dialled DJ for his role in American Psycho? I tried searching, and that was the only result (other than a lot of gay porn  ) which came up...

As Patrick said to his hookers, "Don't touch the watch!" ;)

  2. By 'cooler', I mean in terms of temperature/wrist comfort, not fashion sense :D I only wonder, as the silicon strap I bought for my project sub, while a really nice strap, actually gets pretty warm and uncomfortable at temperatures of +23C, and it was more comfortable to wear a NATO strap instead. I've never handled a tropic strap at all, but from pictures I've seen, they look to be more like plastic than 'rubber'. Are they any cooler than silicon?

  3. I manage a small company and we run dating services over the internet and the phone...

Now that is a cool job, knowing that you help people get together :) I'm not ashamed to say I met my wife online (online community rather than a dating site, but either way, still online :) ) and things've worked out pretty good for us :) (well, other than the crippling poverty :D )

  4. I'm an art consultant (at least, I would be if folks were paying me for business :D ) Essentially, I do concept artwork and consultation in several artistic areas. I'm trying to diversify to move into corporate consulting to help companies change their corporate image, but need to get the right connections to do that... :)

  5. Currently wearing my project Sub on the SS bracelet :) The pearl's got knocked out while doing some yard work, so proper work-related/tool watch damage, rather than it just dropping out in the street  Have a good weekend, amigos :drinks: :drinks:

Following on from this, here's a quick and dirty to show the abuse

  6. Just for the record; my wife knows which are which. All my gens are gifts from her, all her watches (mostly gens but a few reps) and jewelry are gifts from me.

When someone comments on her watch, jewelry, etc. she says " My husband takes good care of me" (Truth)

I never lie to my wife, and I mean never. And I am 100% open except when she asks a question like "do these jeans make me look ___?" To which I reply with a smile and "I love you" (Truth)

By the way her license plate says "2nd Wife" for good reason (13years)

Smooth move, brother, I'll have to remember that advise :good:

  7. Thanks for sympathy TeeJay.

I really don't know what's going on with the asian clone GMT movements but I got 2 that were DOA, almost seems too much of a coincidence.

The dealer said the 2nd one they ran the watch for 2 days before shipping and it ran fine. I got it and could not get it to wind and run.

So right now I don't know what to do, I don't have a GMT IIc, not sure where to buy one with confidence.

Again, sorry for the digression from the OP's query, but this is relevant. He's sending his GMT IIc back also.

No problem :) Indeed, it does seem too likely to be coincidental, especially with more reports of DOA watches (not just the GMTIIC) cropping up. I wouldn't want to say that the dealer was lying about running the watch for two days, I guess it depends if they had it in their possession or if it was just drop-shipped, or, maybe it was simply damaged in transit... The only thing I could suggest, is either send it back for replacement (which could also be faulty) or, keep the DOA GMTIIC, order another GMT watch, such as the EXP II or regular GMT II and then perform a movement transplant and sell the remainder of the donor watch as spares... Best of luck with achieving a satisfactory resolution :good:

  8. Jeez dude, you seem to be sending a lot of watches back - first the MM GTXL chrono now this GMT.

If it makes you feel any better, I recently ordered a GMT IIc with asian clone movement and it arrived DOA, I sent it back, was sent a second one which also came DOA. I'm done with a dropshipped GMT IIc, no more.

I may get one from a dealer willing to run the watch a few days to make sure it works, those asian movements modded for GMT are not stable.

I sent the 2nd one one back yesterday and am getting a credit towards a BCE. So far I've spent $60 on shipping with no reimbursement.

Damn, sorry to hear about you continued issues, the recent GMTIIcs are starting to look like a dodgy batch :( I would like to get one when I can afford to, which might not be a while, but I hope they resolve these movement issues before I do come to buy one...

    Anyway, sorry to digress.

How about an ultimate Seadweller, regular one, not the DSSD?

    No worries about mis-aligned cyclops.

It's such a pure, functional perfect design, absolutely iconic.

I think the bracelet might be a bit lightweight for the OPs taste... Then again, my opinion and perspective on Rolex changed, so maybe theirs might as well :)

  9. Since I'm still fairly new to this I rotate a lot of watches.

Occasionally a patient or parent will notice my watch and comment. My response - "It's an addiction" (Truth)

To friends who comment: "Shhhh - My wife thinks it's a replica" (Truth)

To close friends (most of whom now are atleast cruising here and RG or they own one of my old reps) "yea, I just got it for $---.00 from ________, it's the v2, and I got the strap from _________, and all it needs is _______. (Truth).

Obviously I believe in the Truth; but not necessarily openness.

That's a fine collection :good: And an awesome use of the truth as well :drinks:

  10. Yeah if the movement gets replaced i'll look into servicing it properly since it's an amazing watch. But what other rolex's share that amazing feel, i used to think rolex's feel cheap but the GMT IIc changed my perception of the brand. Although still people always ask if it's fake it's just one of those things.

I used to think Rolexs felt cheap and lightweight, but what changed my perception of the brand, was being told that originally, they were not designed as prestige fashion watches, but functional tool watches. The lightweight, flimsy clasps of the Submariners always bugged me, as I felt they were not appropriate to a watch of such cost and prestige, but, when I was told to think of a Rolex as a car which has been stripped down for speed and performance, rather than comfort and prestige, I began to appreciate them for what they are, rather than criticizing them for what they are not (and were not initially designed as) Before I was 30 and married, I felt a little uncomfortable wearing a Rolex, and now although my Rolex is the only functional watch in my collection, so I have no choice about wearing it, I actually feel comfortable wearing it. The GMTIIC is the first Rolex I've tried on (in gen form) which immediately impressed me. I didn't think that it was worth the AD price tag, but that's just down to me being against consumerism. Had it had a reasonable (ie rep-level  ) price tag, I would have thought that it was an awesome watch for an awesome price :) If you used to feel that Rolexs were cheap, then I'd suggest staying away from the older models of GMT/Sea-Dweller/Submariner/etc, as they will all have that 'flimsy feel' to them. You might enjoy the Deep Sea Sea Dweller though :) With regards Daytonas, I've never worn one on a bracelet, but, some do have a different clasp than the Oyster bracelets, so may have a more substantial feel to them, but I wouldn't like to say for sure... If you're concerned about the 7750 movement, why not try one with a quartz movement? I know, quartz in a Rolex, sacrilege, but it might be a way of getting a feel for the watch itself, without having to worry about the movement keeling over on you... Best of luck with your purchases :good:

  11. if it is not fake it would have to be some kind of new dial with glowing writing... don't even think the gen has that... (strange however is that the hands have no lume at all, but the red dot is glowing...) red lume???

Red lume is not an impossibility. Also, if the factory are silkscreening the lume onto the dial, it's certainly possible that they included the branding in that process (such as the silkscreened lume on the IWC Aquatimer bezel)...

Given that Polo is a new dealer, I would think that the admin have taken steps to ensure that photos are accurate to the product displayed :)

  12. I got this one from another member here. I just assumed it was a noobmariner. However, these are the specs when I bought the watch:

Rolex Submariner, Swiss ETA Movt, Genuine pearl [albeit with a crack], Genuine bezel insert, laser etched 'dotted' coronet on the crystal at six [as per gen; completely invisible to the eye, unless looked at from a certain angle under direct light]. Bezel is tight and clicks solidly - no wobbliness or move. Dates are centered, as is the cyclops. Crown is solid as well, doesn't wobble or fragile feeling. Watch is pool and ocean tested!

The cracked pearl is why I want to remove the bezel. So, if it is a noobmariner, then they modified the insert. If it is not, then I have no idea where this watch is originally from.

If the only problem is the pearl, then you really only need to remove the bezel insert rather than the entire bezel.

The method I've always used, is to de-case the movement and push the crystal out from the back, which will then allow you to gently pry the insert up from the inside edge. If you use something like the pieces of plastic which are packed under a shirt collar, then you shouldn't damage the insert :) After that, it's just a case of replacing the pearl and replacing the parts... Alternately, an even easier solution would be to simply pick the pearl out with a fingernail and install the new one without the hassle of stripping the watch down :) Best of luck :good:

  13. Unless the Porsche is phantom lumed, I'd go for the Chopard, simply for the night visibility :)

Another suggestion, is if you see a chrono with black dial that fits your criteria other than having an SS case, why not get it, and then get it DLC coated? I've seen some pretty impressive results lately :) Best of luck with your decision :good:

  14. A friend of mine bought an Audi TT, the first version. I asked how much he paid and he said 9 grand. Then, a month or so later, a few of us went on a spring break trip to cancun. A few other friends were talking in the pool about how much he paid for his car, saying 12 grand was a lot! So he told me 9 but told everyone else 12 as it made him sound better!!

Just after I joined this site, and started reading up on how good some of the reps available are, my same friend commented on my Pam, which a friend picked up for me on a mediterranean holiday, way before I knew RWG existed. I have since come to know it was a proper cheapy, im talking PROPER!! So I offered to sell him the watch for 50 quid. He asked why I was willing to sell such a nice watch, so I told him I am saving for a gen. After weeks of research, I have took the plunge and ordered myself a 111h from Angus with the ultimate rubber strap on the side (pics to follow...) which according to tracking should be with me today, cant wait!!

Im defo going to keep up the charade with this dude, as he has done with his car and all of our other friends, its going to be my own private joke! Cant wait to see everyone out and we both have our Pam's on!! B)

Make sure all your friends get nice PAM reps, and the chump will probably run to an AD and buy the real thing so as not to be the odd one out, not realizing the others are all reps :tu:
