I'm wearing my last complete Rolex, my Project Sub
Since it arrived from Silix, it's had a new dial, new bezel insert, and a different bracelet, with another clasp swapped in (as well as the options of a NATO and rubber strap). I still have plans to install a DJ dial, to see if I can get something like a Super Ocean Heritage out of it, or, failing that, I might start looking for a Tudor dial, and go for something a little different
-
TeeJay-
The case on that one measures about 42mm w/o crown; lugs are 22mm.
It wears fairly true to size with the big bezel and all. Here's a comparison with a 40mm Sub case:
Ahh, so a bit larger, but not Planet Ocean size
The bezel is certainly striking, it's a really nice watch
Thanks for the comparison shots, it puts the size in perspective nicely
-
I'd go for the TT...
-
I've got some Maratac's for a couple of watches...
Usually just do the steel and leather option though... The heat here in Denver is pretty dry, so it's a little more bearable...
That's a nice looking dive watch, what kind of size is it? About the same as a Submariner?

DRSD on two-piece nylon
After such an awesome photo, I had to make an homage shot of my own

Stopped into a small jewelry store last week wearing my 16013 with 3 ct diamnd bezel and diamond dial and the jeweler went nuts over it - tested the diamonds and said "You know, this is a $20,000 watch..." (I had $2400 into is via various good deals and lucky finds - paid $1100 for the bezel)
So I went back yesterday and played Monte Hall - "Let's make a deal..." I had my straw hat and cane with me for the tap dancing...
End result - we drove downtown in his Beemer to his watch guy and popped the case back to prove authenticity and bopped back to his store.
Traded the DJ for the watch on his wrist R serial TT Sub (aftermarket bracelet - swapped this morning for a nice blue curved end leather I just happened to have lying around - doesn't everybody) and a Z serial Black Sub with original papres dated Dec 25 2007 - worn for 6 months then pawned - sat for 18 months in a display case.
Even my wife agreed that I had to do this deal!
What an awesome deal
I have to admit, I've never been over fond of the TT Subs (probably because I can't wear gold) but seeing this photo:
I've got to say, Wow, that is one awesome watch
Congrats on such an awesome deal

Hey all,
I apologise if this is a n00b topic!
Nothing to apologize for, it's a reasonable question to ask
A couple of points...
As I understand it, ordering a watch off one of the dealers on here is usually a smooth transaction, and to give you peace of mind it appears that most dealers will be willing to photograph the actual watch they are sending before they send it, to make sure you're happy with it (and to make sure they don't have to deal with any returns, of course). Many dealers here are drop-shippers, so cannot always offer that service. That said, there are dealers here who can, and do provide photos of the specific watch purchased
Those I would consider to be reasonable and honest responses...His response was, to paraphrase:- Don't consider our watches seriously.
- These issues are normal due to the rough [his emphasis] guilloche dial.
- The photo on the website was taken to point out that this happens.
- We can't offer perfection at this price point.
Do you look at your watch with a magnifying glass all the time?
You have the right to choose your watch but this is not a 2-way transaction - I have a camera on my desk but won't take a photo as it's not justified at the price point.
Good luck finding what you're looking for. [sarcasm, anyone?]Those are just rudeness... Point one, no, people might not look at their watch through a lens all the time, but, that does not mean that certain noticeable details should not be accurate... As for price justified, when I've sold stuff here, if I've ever been asked for another photo of the item, I have always provided it. Okay, so it might take 10 minutes to set up the shot, get the detail required, upload the photo to a hosting account and then email the intersted party, but if I'm selling something, and someone wants a better look, then that 10 minutes is what is required, just like any other job where people have to 'go through the motions' to close a transaction/finalize a project. To say it's not justified at that price point, is utterly rude, and I bet an attitude which that person would never tolerate from sales staff, if they were the one making the purchase. I wouldn't call the 'good luck' sarcasm, but text can be harder to interpret than verbal communications... Maybe they meant well, maybe they were just trying to stick the knife in one more time, if it's the latter, then the laugh's on them, as chances are you will be able to find a dealer who will be able to meet your requirements. Personally, I've always been satisfied with the 'stock shot' on the website. I'm not so concerned about individual details that I want to see exactly which watch I'm getting... As long as it's the right model, and has been reasonably well put together, I'm happy
- Don't consider our watches seriously.

This sounds better out of context...think of long trenchcoats and bare legs.
I know a halogen light would surely be able to do some serious damage. I stick to low heat compact fluorescents.
Just for the record, it was a halogen bulb
Lesson learned
-
If it could be made to work, then I think it's an awesome idea
-
One of those 100 lumen led flashlights should charge up the lume rather quick... Thinking of getting one
UV LEDS give a good response as well, I think the problem is I held the watch near the bulb for about a minute... Oh well, lesson learned
-
Hey Bro! Are you that bored? There are better things to do to have fun, not mating your GMT II with a light bulb!!!
Cheers! F
I was just trying to see if a longer charge from the bulb, would provide a longer lume glow. If it's any consolation, I could tell the time when I woke up, the time just wasn't right
-
Lume charging gone wrong?
You might say that
I woke up this morning to find that the watch had stopped just before midnight, and, once the time was reset, it ran, but, the date wheel would not roll over... This afternoon, I dismantled the watch, and discovered that rather than being an overlay, the entire datewheel was a plastic cog, which had warped slightly, which was preventing it engaging with the rest of the movement...
Oh well, we live and learn
I'd originally bought the watch to be given away anyway, I guess it just wasn't meant to be that I keep it personally
-
Plastic parts warp, and the watch stops functioning
RIP GMT II
-
Nothing new from me, I'm afraid, but I'm loving wearing it
I guess the red on the bezel insert isn't quite as distracting as I first feared
-
As folks have already said, if it wasn't the watches, it would have been something else. I wouldn't like to say what, but watches is too petty to be a key motivating factor... At the end of the day, even if you don't get back together with her, try and maintain good relations for the sake of your son, so the one thing he can be sure of, is consistency
Sorry to hear about it, and best of luck with everything
-
Well, to say I didn't know it was coming would be a lie. It was inevitable. I was in a dying industry. And quitting would just be leaving money on the table.
The only real kick in the balls was the new 18K sub the VP was wearing. He was going on about the economy and shit, so I asked him about his new Rollie. He pretended not to hear it and pulled his sleeve over his new watch.
At least the Veuve is going down nicely! I think I may go golfing tomorrow. I'm long overdue for a round!
What a tool, he's going to have a nice karmic comeuppance befall him at some point...
Sorry to hear about your situation, as others have said, these things happen for a reason, and to allow us to grow, so best of luck with everything
-
Feel free to give them a try, afterall, that's the only way we'll find out about new reliable sources
Just don't spend more than you'd be prepared to lose
-
That's an absolutely fantastic project, kudos indeed
I'll look forwards to seeing how the PAM project plays out
-
As above, it's a button, and you just need to depress it gently, then you'll be able to pull the stem out
Best of luck

When I came here I researched practically every brand aside from Rolex. I had no interest in them whatsoever. Partly because of my age (28), partly because of the brands popularity, but mainly the styling did not do it for me. I looked and read for hours at all kinds of watches... So what am I wearing after all this?
WHY??? Well, the look of this watch really grabbed me. Large, blue lume, the hands... Then the details of it, like the ROLEXROLEXROLEX rehaut (I think that's what's it's called), the little crown serif, and actually the crown itself, all over the watch. So here I am. Will I but another Rolex? Maybe, I like the (vintage) Daytona's and definetly dig the Tudor`s... That being said I have several others in mind before I go back to the brand.
Moral of the story? Don't write off a brand, ANY brand, because they may just surprise you...
Truer words were never spoken

Thumbs up indeed

Thanks TeeJay,
Of course I didn't get into other concepts, such as outright appropriation of concepts which developed organically from Rolex prestige...
ie: Newman Daytona - natural classic... Schumacher "The 'Theft of a' Legend" Speedy, um... yeah.
Any time
I quite agree with you, Omega are more than a little guilty of basing their designs off of Rolex designs, but in their defense, I would point out that they have improved on the designs, rather than just outright copying them, and Ulysse Nardin, for example, definitely based the MMD off of the Rolex Yacht-Master (a top watch, if I do say so myself), but again, tweaked the design a bit, added detail here and there, and use different cases for the different watches, whereas Rolex (as a corporate entity, not the watches, which I do like) just keep on with the same oyster case over a variety of lines, such as the Submariners, Sea-Dwellers and GMT Master IIs, simply changing things out like bezel inserts and bracelet combinations. I think the thing which saddens me, is that Rolex seem more keen to go after the fashion buyers (such as the blinged out versions) rather than being true to their roots of practical tool watches for professionals. I mean, look at the Submariner, for example. All that's changed over the years is slight differences in shape of the case (getting more and more 'blocky') lug holes no longer being drilled all the way through, a different bracelet configuration, and now, the ROLEXROLEXROLEX graving around the rehaut. In a way, yes, when you have a good design, why change it? and that's a perfectly valid philosophy, but, I think there can always be some room for improvement (ie AR coating, blue superluminova indices and hands as standard on a Submariner) simple things, but things which would actually be a practical improvement, not just pure aesthetics
-
That's an awesome 'how to' video, thanks for taking the time to do it and share it with us
On another note, I can't believe you were able to pull the bezel off with your fingers, man, that is hardcore
-
Bond Sub - classic, no you can't have a free one to promote the brand...
Bond Seamaster? OMG!!@#!@! Look how much money we can make with branding $50 shit quartz and $200 shittier co-axial movement flash bang watches with 007 logos!
I forgot to touch on this point earlier, my apologies...
When Doctor No was made, the producers did not want to use a Rolex simply as a lucrative advertising option, but because that was (at the time) the only canon watch which Bond wore. The decision to go over to Omega, I believe was purely marketing lead, and I don't think that is necessarily a good thing. Yes, product placement helps pay for a movie, but it should only be done in keeping with the original concepts. Personally, I'm not a big fan of any of the commemorative Bond watches, and I would never buy one, simply because they are pure marketing. The SMPs and Planet Ocean, at least featured on screen, so are prop replicas, rather than just marketing devices...
The strangest thing while in Japan, was seeing frequent Rolex adverts on the TV. Awesome to see, but at the same time, quite strange, as there's never any such advertising here in the UK
Good to see you posting again, I hope life's been treating you well

Never mind this:
"Silly question, but what is the model number which accompanies that no-date dial?"
I've read and found it's a 9401![:)](https://rwg.cc/datastore/emoticons/emoticons/default_smile.png)
