  1. I guess to each his own I mean, I don't like it enough to buy one, and probably wouldn't even at $108 with an Asian movement, but as watches go, I've certainly seen some worse ones out there I wouldn't have a clue about the movement, as that's not an area I'm overly familiar with...
  2. I guess it's true when they say one man's shit is another mans gold, I actually really like it... Large clear dial, noticeable hands and indices, it may not be perfect in terms if replication, and the price is a little steep, but as watches go, I quite like it
  3. I don't like to crop my bro's posts, but in this case, I just had to point out the absolute truth in these boldened words. If people know the status of the person wearing the rep, and know that they're able to afford a gen, even if confronted with an obvious rep, the mental logic 'They can't be wearing a rep, they make $$$$$$$$$$$$ a year, they can afford the real thing... It must be real...' tends to win out
  4. Oh man, that's so grim, it's awesome The scary thing, is with a little work (okay, several transplants ) You could probably get a reasonably presentable watch out of it A GMT hand would be a good place to start
  5. That's certainly a very honest, and positive review
  6. Sorry bro, I should've answered before. My wife's bought a couple of watches for me (Planet Ocean 42mm, PAM004) in the past, and the easiest way to get what you want, is to simply discuss it, then go to the dealer site, say "This is the one I want", and sit back while the transaction goes through on her credit card Okay, it takes the element of surprise out of it, but, it does save on any hint dropping or guessing which might result in the wrong watch
  7. Medical gloves won't do it... You'll need dishwashing gloves for the texture on the undersides of the digits
  8. The only white dialled watch I've had, was my PAM 113. It was a much more versatile watch than I ever anticipated it being. I'll probably get a white dialled watch at some point, not with the intention of it being a beater, and probably not as a real 'formal dress watch', but maybe for something in between. Maybe a 'smart/casual/going out with friends' watch... I'm thinking possibly a white-dialled Yacht Master, but fitted with one of the recent bracelets, just to keep it all looking nice and slick
  9. I was just wondering, if any other Rolex bracelets, will go with a Sub/GMT case? I've seen a Jubilee bracelet on a GMT, and wondered if a Presidential, or Daytona bracelet might also fit? (reps, of course )
  10. No problem at all, my friend, thank you for the congratulations Indeed, after all that planning, it's all done I'm not sure if I'd be able to make myself wear a PAM now, although I can still appreciate them and their history, in terms of wearing them, I seem to've gone right off them
  11. Thanks, amigo, and you can sure say that again I'd just greeted all the guests, so I was pretty dry from all that talking Not the best photo I've had taken in a while, but damn, that pint went down smooth
  12. If you meant on the clock face, then yes, the back would be rotating clockwise. If you mean with the case back facing you, that's when the back would be rotating anti-clockwise, and that's when the left:loose, right:tight saying comes into play. It works whenever 'the top of the screw(ed item)' is directly facing you, be it a watch caseback, a watch crown, a faucet, or even the lid of a soda bottle As for the plating... That's a real shame... I guess SS might be better for day to day abuse
  13. Clockwise (with the case back facing you) would be tightening it A little rhyme someone once told me, as a way of remembering which way to 'work things with threads': Left:loose, right:tight
  14. I've never used duct tape, but, I've found that wearing dish-washing gloves, and then pressing with my thumbs in an anti clockwise direction, the backs soon shift (be they Omega, PAM or Rolex)
  15. If you can't get the money back, then I think the only option is to send a serious message along the lines of.... "So that plans can be finalized, we need to know precisely how many guests/groomsmen there will be. The dress code for the groomsmen is (insert garments of choice here) if this would be financially impractical, then please let me know... This will not affect anyone's invitation, but it is necessary so we can know who will be a guest, and who will be a groomsman..." For my best men, I just told them to wear black suits and white shirts, and purchased the matching ties for myself. I hadn't been expecting Emily's step-dad to be 'following the code', but indeed, he chose to. I was originally going to wear a matching tie myself, but, at the last minute, changed my mind for the tie I wore, as the subtle difference between the ties allowed me to coordinate with my best men, but still stand apart, as the groom. I actually bought a suit for one of my best men (I believe traditionally, it is the groom's responsibility to pay for his best men's clothing, as I remember reading somewhere online once a traditional breakdown who was meant to pay for what...) If you think your bro's going to flake on you, it's better to apply a little pressure now, and have him step back now, rather than be planning on him taking part as a groomsman, but having him back out at the last minute... It's just a case of putting it in a polite manner. I had to chase up a few people for if they were coming to the reception, and, although it turned out that they couldn't attend, had I not chased them up, they would not have sent a 'decline' message back to me, and we would have still catered for them. At the end of the day, if anyone gets offended by the question, just point out that you need to know numbers for everything from catering, to seating arrangements, so can simply explain that it is a matter of organization, rather than ostracization... As you might've seen from my album, I had two best men on the day (I should've had three, but one had to pull out due to a last minute injury). Andrew has been my best friend for 20 years, and now lives in Tokyo. He couldn't stay long enough to attend the reception, where Matt was staying with us for the week, and did attend the reception, so the way we had it, was Andrew being the best man on the day of the wedding (bringing up the rings etc), and Matt then being the best man on the day of the reception. Maybe you could do something like that to allow someone who can't afford the wardrobe, to still play a role [Edit to add] As Mardo said, tell him to wear a suit, but make sure that his colors still match the colors of the other groomsmen, that way, although it might not be clear if he's a groomsman or not, it will still be clear that he's wearing 'the uniform' with an official capacity
  16. Thank you indeed One can never have too much good luck
  17. Whoops... Double post...
  18. I hardly ever take my watch off, and it can feel tighter or looser depending on the temperature, but. I never wear a watch very tight anyway, so even if it's tighter than normal, it's never uncomfortably tight :-)
  19. is there anyway you could get the cash on the suits back? If you can, you could always scale down the groomsman's outfits, so no loss of dignity all round. Failing that, just send out an email explaining the situation and requesting clarification. At the end of the day, it's your wedding, and you need them to step up, or step back. That way, you don't have to tell someone that they can't attend unless, and they won't feel obliged to come if they know finances can't stretch... Best of luck with getting things taken care of
  20. I don't know about DeepSeas, but I do have plans to try and cram a GMTIIc insert into a SeaDweller bezel What do you think?
  21. Thanks for sharing, bro, that sure is an awesome photo Thanks again for all the suit/tie info, it really came in useful, and helped turn 'off the rack' clothes into something more
