  1. You couldn't be closer to the truth, bro Portmeirion village, essentially, is the project build of an eccentric. A bit like my hybrid Rolex, he built it 'because he could' When we were there on the first day, it was snowing a bit (which sadly didn't capture on the photos, other than muting the light a bit) and because it's such a picturesque/fantasy setting, it really was like being inside a snow globe If you're ever able to make it over to the UK, I'd highly recommend visiting it. Many of the buildings in the village itself are available as self-catering accomodation, and there are also two hotels to chose from, Hotel Portmeirion, and Castle Deudraeth (which is just outside of the village) which provide breakfast and evening meals. Even if you don't stay as a resident, it's well worth a day trip
  2. Thanks for the compliments, bro, I'll have to do some antiquing of the insert A totally black insert would definitely look the nuts, but would make the GMT function a bit less functional I've seen a few PAM GMTs which don't have the 24 hour markings, and thought it kind of defeated the idea of having the numbers to truly get GMT functionality, so I was never quite so taken by them... Not quite floating Just resting on 10-12mm thick ice over this wading pool: In the village:
  3. Awesome watch, bro, I have a feeling I'll be adding a Patek to my list when it comes to rebuilding my collection, and the Aquanaut would have some personal relevance to me... When I was about 9, I did a piece of creative writing at school, and was inspired to write the word 'Aquanaut'. I felt all proud that I'd invented a word, only to later find out that the term had already been coined I was pretty mad at the time, but never mind I'm sure it'll come as no surprise for folks to see I'm still wearing this:
  4. No problem, bro, they're good shots, I've certainly seen (and taken ) worse photos If that's how it was rung through on the register, then as above, he really should've included everything in that pack, rather than just the camera... Of course, the guy was selling his own property, so that does give a modicum of flexibility which a shop obviously wouldn't have, so from that point of view, I guess it was his choice to either sell it all as he bought it, or split the pack. Not really a rip-off as such, but certainly pretty cheap behavior on the seller's part... Don't lose too much sleep over it, bro, karma will make sure he gets his comeuppance in due time
  5. Awkward situation... I can see it from both sides... Unless he actually promised to sell you the camera package as he bought it, personally, I don't see why he should be obliged to give you the other SD card, as that was something he was given in addition to the camera (although I agree, it certainly wouldn't've killed him to give it to you) On the other hand, if something is purchased as a 'package deal', and one part is faulty, some companies will insist on all the contents of that package being returned, not just the faulty item, so from that point of view, if it was all received as a package, yes, it would certainly be reasonable to then sell it on as a package (but ultimately the seller's discretion)... How was the purchase recorded on the receipt? Does it have two separate entries? Ie: Camera $500 SD Card $0.00 Total $500 Or, did it just read: Camera Pack 1 (camera + SD Card) $500 Total $500 As above, I agree, it's pretty tight not to just give you the card, but I can also understand why he might not have felt obliged to include it with the deal... Best to just forget it and move on, karma will resolve the issue in the end PS Awesome photos
  6. The reception went well, with no drunken arguments, brawls or shenanigans I've got a busy few days with various business meetings, but I'll endeavor to get a digital album up as soon as I can Thanks again for all the support and good wishes, it is always very much appreciated
  7. It was his SMP vs Sub review which made me really notice Omega as a brand, and start to take a more specific interest in the aspects of a watch, rather than just looking at the 'overall package', so at the very least, I owe him thanks for broadening my horizons
  8. I've got to agree with FM... If you buy a new watch just to get an insert thrown in, the SMP might get reduced wrist time due to the new watch... Far better to get the new insert and simply install it
  9. John's reviews are always an excellent read, and a great inspiration for the reviews I've written myself. He's also a very nice guy. Humble, well-mannered, just the kind of guy who would fit in and be an asset to a community like this, but, I don't know how he feels about reps
  10. It's pretty much a US 'college style' ring, with a large round red stone in the center, and the shoulders of the ring resemble the bracelet of a two tone sub. Not my taste in a ring, but it will definitely appeal to some Awesome find
  11. TeeJay

    RWG rings

No thanks necessary, my friend, I'm always happy to contribute and help out in any way I can I'm just glad to have been able to give some input, and greatful to have been allowed the opportunity
  12. That a one amazing project, and a gorgeous movement. Awesome work, kudos indeed for a project well done
  13. I'd suggest a PVD-coated Omega Aqua Terra... With the tuxedo dial, it looks the business
  14. That's an awesome find, bro, thanks for posting it Awesome production values on the film as well
  15. Awesome shoes and watch I have to admit, I'm not a fan of Ostrich... The lumps on it creep me out... Depending on how tasty you are with a craft knife, getting a custom fit on a stock-purchased strap shouldn't be too difficult Best of luck getting a good match
  16. I missed this comment earlier, but I totally agree, Rolex really built a good watch, and one which really does feel 'high end' when worn Any time
  17. Fantastic as always, my friend
  18. New or Old Skool, good advice is good advice, and always very much appreciated, so thank you, I will definitely bear those words in mind Welcome to the party New or Old Skool, good advice is good advice, and always very much appreciated, so thank you, I will definitely bear those words in mind Welcome to the party Thanks, bro, it's very much appreciated Thanks indeed Glad you liked them Thanks, it certainly wasn't without it's hiccups to get things accomplished in time It was her biological father, and to be honest, he isn't missed Her step-father is the person who actually raised her, and it was her step-father's name which was put on the marriage licences and certificates There's still more to come At the end of May, we're going to Tokyo for a week, combining a late honeymoon, my wife's birthday, and my best friend's wedding, which is the day after the birthday... That said, it's going to be hard to top that No watch as a wedding gift I got her a hat, which was made specifically just for her, by Diva Zappa Thanks for the encouragement, and I quite agree, it couldn't be much better said Thanks indeed, my friend I hope all is well with you
  19. Thanks for all the good wishes, guys, it's much appreciated I've posted the photo of the GMTSub in the weekend wristie (and it is what I'm wearing) Probably the best watch shot I've taken in quite a while
  20. Looks awesome, bro, a very successful experiment Not quite a full update, or even much as a wrist check, but just a quick update on my past week: My amigo and I while being driven to Portmeirion: The wedding watch on the day: The GMTSub photographed while resting on a frozen wading pool: [Edit to add] Yes, I know the dial's wonky on the GMTSub, it shifted really badly while we were away, but has since been realigned
  21. Thanks for the messages, guys, it's very mch appreciated, from both of us The photos won't get uploaded for a few days, as I want to wait till we see the reception pics as well, so you can see the best of the best, but, I will give you a little written spoiler of a watch shot I got yesterday: My GMTSub, resting on 12mm thick ice, over a 'wading pool' with a blue-painted base... It looks awesome, and I can't wait to share it with you guys
