  1. Just purchased from TWA (Thumbnail watch assoc.) 20mm lug size wthe Omega logo on buckle. Great looking strap. Did it thru RWI.

PM him and see if he has another. He ships from USA. Good luck.

    Hwrd

Is this the 20mm Planet Ocean strap with the off-round notch holes and 7mm buckle tongue, or the 20mm Seamaster strap with the rectangular notch holes and the 10mm buckle tongue?

  2. thank you teejay:

what does you think, will this straps fit on the seamaster reps without any mods (ha, ha...now i need to find the right watch for this straps)..!

Do you think they would fit a Seamaster Pro Chrono?

To address both points, I had no problem fitting the strap to my Seamaster 2531.80 (there was a very minimal gape, but I suspect this was from bent spring pins, not the strap itself) I would expect the strap to fit on either the SMP or the SMP Chrono (assuming they are the same case) and I wouldn't be surprized if it fitted onto the SMP 2254.50. But, and this is a BIG but. The case will have to have the guide holes between the lugs for the locating pin to fit into. Without that hole (or as I found when I cut the pins off to test fit to my Planet Ocean) the strap will still 'free wheel' in the lugs of the SMP.

For what it's worth, these straps are extremely comfortable. I only wore mine for a few weeks, but in that time, I got so used to it, that the Planet Ocean's SS bracelet felt noticeable against the back of the hand, and I felt I'd rather live with the gaping issue so I could wear the rubber rather than 'putting up' with the SS bracelet...

    Hope that's of help :)

  3. The crow's nest, wine bottles, shoes, even Ballard's memorial plaque left in 1985 have all been lifted along with thousands of other "artifacts". I guess it's inevitable. The pyramids were picked clean over the centuries. Hell they're even selling Twin Towers Memorial coins made with metal recovered from ground zero.

IMO, if they wanted to make a Titanic memorial timepiece, they could have paid a tribute without smelting parts of the ship dragged up after 95 years.

    That's very true.

  4. hello

i buyed two pairs of rubber straps (balck and orange) i got them from ebay, but onfortunately they are 20mm and will not fit on my 45mm PO (it was my fault).

i dont know, if this straps will fit on yours...

    233344-11760.jpg

The black strap is the same as mine. It will not fit to a 42mm PO without either drilling extra lug holes, or somehow cutting a new hole through the strap for the bar to go through (probably 1-2mm closer to the notch holes)

  5. What do you mean by "it only fits certain 42mm... models"? Are you saying there are different 42mm models out there with different dimensions? I thought as long as the strap had the rubber locating pins then it would fit just fine? My 42mm has the locating holes drilled into the case along with 2 sets of springbar holes (for both SS bracelet and rubber strap I presume).

My guess, is they mean the 20mm Seamaster strap. If yours has the 2nd set of springbar holes, you might be lucky and get one to fit.

  6. The only rubber strat that will fit a 42mm 4th gen PO properly, is a genuine one. There is a rep 20mm rubber strap out there, but it only fits certain 42mm and 45mm models.

No idea where you'll find a bracelet, other than a member with a spare one. Again, a genuine would fit, but it's not cost effective.

Is that the 20mm Seamaster strap seen on most rep POs sold on rubber? (and sold individually by Joshua)? If so, that's not a Planet Ocean strap, and that's why it doesn't fit properly. I've got my 42 on one, but it's a far from perfect/satisfactory fit. It's tollerable, but definite room for improvement, so a 20mm rep PO strap would be most welcome...

  7. PS Gun wielding debt collectors, eh? I don't suppose there is a 'UK Division'? My mother in law could certainly use their services against her ex husband who never paid a penny in maintenance or child support. (Son of a [censored] now drives round in a brand new Mercedes, and takes frequent cruises around the Med and North Africa  ) Needless to say, he's not getting a wedding invitation...

  8. Ah...... no, I come from a long line of pizza dough tossers and gun weilding Sicillian debt collectors. My Grandfather did get seasick on his nephew's boat once off Atlantic City and threw up over the side.

So with the greatest of respect, no need to be offended on behalf of those who did (or do)...

As I said, I can see the point that it is a graveyard, and grave desecration is reprehensible. However. I cannot ignore, from a historical perspective, how interesting it is that the watches are made from reclaimed metal from the Titanic. As I said, perhaps I should be more offended by it than I am, but with my grandmother's funeral in a few weeks, that's at the top of my 'grief list' at the moment, and, as I said, I think it would be a nicer gesture for the company who made them to give them to descendents of those who died rather than just selling them.

  9. You'd find a replica in bad taste but a watch that used scavanged steel from the ship's resting site on the ocean floor a facinating build???

Personally, I'm with the purists on this one. The raping of the gravesite is reprehensible. They should let the ship and it's occupants RIP.

One is genuine materials, the other would not be.

I can see the point that it is a graveyard, but as someone with a personal connection to the Titanic, I am not (perhaps I should be) mightily offended by it. If anything, I think these watches should not be sold at all, and given solely to direct descendents of those who died (which would count me out, as they were a distant relation, several times removed)

  10. Having performed a strap swap, I now have my orange PO on my own SS bracelet (it came on an SS bracelet, but was already sized too small, so it made sense to put it on my own bracelet) The watch is such a contradiction, it is crazy. The SS bracelet says 'smart and serious', the orange bezel insert says 'casual and fun'. As I mentioned in other threads, from pictures I had seen, I did not originally like the orange PO. I still would not say that it is 'my style', but it's growing on me. I remember reading someone saying they felt the 'Pepsi GMT II' was a good watch to put on after work (presumeably as a relaxing casual watch) and having the orange PO on SS, I can actually now understand what they meant. To me, the orange PO's not a watch meant for Corporate Life, but wearing while out with friends or relaxing at home. It's a sharp design, and eye-catching without being too Over The Top (under those casual circumstances) Even though I'll likely still swap the bezel insert for black, I can definitely see it's appeal.

So what do others feel about the orange PO? An equal twin to the classic black bezel, or is it a poor cousin? Any opinions either way would be interesting :)

  11. No matter how you put it, we are the fools who bite every time a dealer dangles a nice new shiny fake....

As Dutchy said, Speak for yourself. I didn't see too many people rushing to buy that latest version of the Omega 21531.80, infact, the majority of people who commented, thought it was utter junk. There are way more accurate Planet Ocean reps available than mine, but I haven't ordered one for two reasons: a) They were both gifts, so both have sentimental value that outweighs any inaccuracy, and B) I prefer the inaccurate details over the gen/Top End reps. People had problems with the Omega Logo being offset on their dials... Not a problem with mine, as they're printed on. Okay, so I had a problem with my crown stripping, but so did people who bought the UPO, so where's the benefit of having the UPO? Perhaps there are other people who feel the same, and are happy with what they have already. A new rep available does not necessarily always mean people will fall over themselves to actually buy them.

    PS The B) should be a b ) marker...

  12. I couldn't take it any more! I'd gotten so used to how the rubber strap felt, I couldn't stand to have the black PO on the SS bracelet any longer. I kept swapping between the orange and the black, loving how the orange felt, but wanting to be wearing the black, umming and ahhing about how the rubber looks more casual than the SS, and being a more casual person, so I swapped the strap and bracelet around. I know it gapes, but it just feels sooo much more comfortable. I was tempted to buy the 45 as an occasional watch, with the 42 as the regular wear, but, I know the rubber is the more comfortable, so inevitably it would get the more wrist time, but, the 42 was a gift from my fiance, so that has to take priority, so it was easier to swap the strap and bracelet. My next mission, will be to track down a 20mm Planet Ocean strap for it. I might have to bite the bullet and buy one from Ofrei, but, they don't seem to carry the proper buckle for it, and there's no way I'd risk forcing a 10mm tongue through the holes of a PO bracelet... Anyhoo, photos of the make over :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  13. One thought that I had was a better attempt to educate newbies on the front end. If the Hublot and Rolex lawyers make the decision to target this forum, there is absolutely nothing we can do to stop them. VIP, non-VIP, restricted access, number of posts..... doesn't matter. They'll find a way in. So I don't think there's anything we can really do to prevent those types of unfriendlies. But I think we can do something about newbies making newbie mistakes. I think a lot of newbies get caught up in the newness and excitement of our little hobby, and make some really stupid mistakes without fully realizing the consequences. Things like trips to the AD, posting on TZ, etc. I don't think these actions are necessarily taken with a bad intent-- just an excess of hubris and a lack of common sense as to the realities of our hobby.

What I've seen done on some torrent boards is that when you initially register, you're taken immediately to a PM that lays out the rules of the forum. Not a big document-- really just a "Top Ten" list of things to do and not to do. Personally, I think something like that could be useful--and educational--for the newbies. Just a suggestion.

I think that's an excellent idea, that way, people would know from the beginning that discretion is important.

  14. Something is odd, the dealer reveiw section is still here. Shouldn't that also go?

I would have said not at all. The purpose of the forum is to inform and educate. Removing INFORMATION about dealers cannot help to inform or educate. Making people aware of the existence of dealers is not the same as providing dealers a 'market place'. The review section educates people about dealers, it does not promote dealers, and it is the promoting of the dealers, which would be the problem.

  15. In light of recent developments such as PP and other infiltrations to the board, I think it would be a good idea to put our house in order, posts such as "I think our dealers are filthy rich....at least $25,000 a month".....serve no useful purpose for the sustenance of our hobby, provocative post such as this only serve to inflame and engender a determination to undermine the hobby....by those who don't share our views.

We should be more circumspect when posting, one thing I would like to see end....( and would like it if we could edit ALL the posts )........is to see the dropping of using personal names when posting......I feel uncomfortable when I see my name posted.....and particularly when I get an e-mail from a noob who has 2x posts...saying....'Hi Neil'........there's no need to use anything other than our screen name......!

There are many other things that we could do.......such as not welcoming noobs with open arms and advising them where to go shopping......we don't know who they are.......let them earn the right to that info......don't just hand it out willy nilly.......stop posting links to websites and e-mail etc etc..!

I quite agree, as I agreed with your points about the Cartel.

Given what has happened, I will never give the name of my dealer on open forum. They are a personal friend, and while I know they give good service to all their customers, the free orange Planet Ocean was a gift between friends, not between dealer and client, and I do not want people to start hassling them for 'freebies'. If someone is genuinely interested in buying from them, I will happily give their name in a PM, but if I get ONE email from them saying "You recommended (insertnamehere) to me and they hassled me for a free watch", I will be seriously [censored] off and never give their name out to anyone else. I remember reading a thread where people were laying into Pug for not getting his brother to ship out cheap reps. The majority of people here are decent and respectfull, but there are some who act as if people owe them some sort of favor, or that discounts/gifts given to one person, should automatically be carried over to another buyer, and that is an attitude I refuse to tollerate or pander to.

  16. Great twins TeeJay.

I briefly owned the "twins" too. Now I think I want to buy another orange. :)

    233040-11827.jpg

Thanks :) I notice your orange also has the shorter second hand (the one on my black PO is longer, probably the 45 hand)

My feelings on the orange are mixed. My mother in law really likes it, my fiance hates it. I think it looks much nicer 'in the flesh' than the pictures (they don't capture the color of the bezel properly, it's really quite a 'muted' orange, not bright at all.) However, it's not quite my style (although it definitley has the feel of a 'casual' watch) so I'm going to swap the bezel for a black one, and try and track down a Planet Ocean strap for it as the gape issue bugs me (the watch is so much more comfortable on rubber) I'm still planning on getting the 45mm with white numerals on rubber, as that was the Casino Royale watch, so a definite 'must have' for my collection :)

  17. Looks good Teejay! One of the best watches around (gen or rep)

Thanks, I quite agree, the Planet Ocean is by far my favorite watch available (and the most suited to my needs)

I have a 42mm with the dreadful fantasy orange rubber strap (came that way from a member on one of the other boards). I only realized it was fantasy when the watch was already on its way here. Where can I get the correct black rubber PO rep strap without having to buy a whole new watch?

The 20mm black Seamaster strap (which is what I put on the orange PO) is available from Joshua and King. This is not the correct strap for the Planet Ocean (hence the gaping issues) As far as I know, Silix is the only person who offers the correct Planet Ocean rep strap, but, as far as I know, that is only available in the 22mm, for the 45mm watch... This is why it might be as easy to actually order a watch with the strap pre-fitted, as that way, the modifications to make it fit properly will already have been done. If you go to ofrei.com, they sell the genuine strap, but they do not advertize the buckle, so you may need to make enquiries about that. (The Planet Ocean buckle has a 7mm tongue, where as the Seamaster buckle has a 10mm tongue, which would not be suitable for the Planet Ocean strap due to the different shaped notches.)
