That looks freaking AWESOME!!!!! I do not normally like the black PO with the pumpkin numerals, but, that strap, with that stitching, compliments it PERFECTLY and makes the colors look really nice.

Crappy pic of a crappy watch, but I like it Oneday it'll look good

Thanks for the larger image, I still can't find any better images. If Supernatural was on DVD, a screencap might give a close up (if for a second or so) but I don't have it... From watching the series, these are my observations which might be of help... The strap is definitely resin, not leather. Dean is not a 'rich guy', and his 'job' is a fairly rough and tumble one, so I cannot imagine his watch is a particularly expensive one. I'm guessing it is a cheap quartz sports watch, possibly not even a major brand, but a 'Dime Store Special'... If anyone has any thoughts or ideas, by all means let me know, as I collect 'movie watches', so the brand is not really as important as the watch itself

Okay, this is not the best picture, but it was the best I could find at short notice. I'm a fan of Supernatural, and I wondered if anyone knew what watch Jensen Ackles wears when he portrays Dean Winchester?

That's a real shame that it has made people think twice about helping newcomers. To be honest, questions I've posted in open forum about sourcing parts have gone pretty much unanswered, but PMs to Ziggy and Flav were incredibly enlightening and informative, I for one would hope that the actions of one person will not lead to a permanant reluctance to help n00bz in need of help. But. I will say this. Good on you for naming and shaming. There's nothing worse than people who back out of agreements or try to use someone's name as a backway into getting something they want. I'm not a big one on naming and shaming myself, but no one has really ever disrespected me enough to deserve getting shamed (although I have warned someone about one unscrupulous eBay dealer as they had already listed them in a thread.) Thanks again to everyone who has advised me on my 2531.80 project watch, I really value the input and suggestions, I just hope I can make it into something worthy of display, rather than the guilty pleasure it is at the moment. Once more: Backing out of deals and name-dropping to get hooked up =

i went away friday-saturday for a friend's birthday and wore my Submariner. All the time I was away, I missed my POS 2531.80 project watch, and the first thing I did when I got home, was put it back on

Because of confused order, I sent a watch back to China. It got through no trouble, and the replacement arrived fine. These costs people are talking about are crazy. It did not cost me £4 to send the watch in a bubble-wrap envelope and it got thre fine. Same situation with my Planet Ocean, which was returned to Thailand because the crown stopped screwing down. Arrived with the dealer no trouble, and he has passed it onto his supplier for repair. Also, as he is Thai, he personally checked the watches before posting them. My fiance ordered me a 42mm Planet Ocean on SS, and I ordered myself the same watch on resin. The watch on the resin, had a faulty mechanism, and he reported that immediately rather than mailing it out, and offered a refund or allowed me to chose something else (I chose a Rolex Daytona as substitute) He's been 100% straight with me in all our dealings. Does your dealer actually pack and ship the watches himself, or does he drop-ship them? The confusion over the watch I had to send back to China was because of drop-shipping, and is not the fault of the dealer. When I told him, he said I could either a) keep the watch and buy the correct one at a discounted rate, or I could do a straight swap. I asked to do a straight swap, but also asked if the discounted rate could be transfered to another watch as compensation for the mistake, and he did that with no trouble whatsoever. Sure, it cost me a bit extra, but I wound up with another watch at a discounted rate. The watches from this dealer are admittedly at the low-end of the rep-market, but, I cannot fault the dealer themselves over their integrity as a business man as they did everything in their power to rectify the mistake caused by their 'staff'.

Thanks for the links, I'm going to check them out right now I know what you mean about accuracy. My Planet Ocean is not a particularly accurate rep, but I prefer the inaccruracies over the gen anyway. (Serifs on a that font?? Crazy ) My 2531.80 project watch would only pass as an Omega to someone who knows nothing about watches (aka the majority of Joe Public ) but I still really like it, and actually prefer it over my Submariner, which has fooled an experienced jeweller into thinking it was genuine. Accuracy isn't always everything, and if you like the watch, that's all that matters

Looking good Where did you source the parts from?
-
I still haven't been able to get access to a camera to take a decent picture of the watch, but randomly came across this dealer who had a decent picture of it. They're selling it for $229. I got mine for $40 Either way, I know that it is inaccurate to the gen 2531.80, but, my project is to improve it. Here's what I'm starting from: (Mine now has vintaged yellow lumes on the dial)

I'm Sitting In My Hotel Room, Fairly Inebriated, And Itching To Buy

How about a Vintage Submariner to keep the LV company? -
Following the hassle I had with the slime, I couldn't in good conscience allow anyone else to buy from them. It stuns me that they have such a high rating, because their product is in no way identical to the original, and easily identifiable. On one email, where I described the problem, they even admitted that they were aware of the problem and were trying to get their factory to sort it out! SO much for 'LIAR All customers satisfied with product/service' Karma will make sure they get what's coming to them eventually.

My feelings about a dress watch, is that most important, it must look Sharp. It's not going to be used for anything other than looking nice, as dress watches are seldom worn long enough to even really be used as time-keepers, so it doesn't need any 'functions' like chronos or moon-phase, it literally only needs a dial and hands. Here is my current top four Daily Beater - Omega Planet Ocean 42mm Dress Watch - Rolex Submariner Smart Casual - Rolex Daytona on Leather Sporty - Rolex Submariner or Omega Speedmaster Professional X-33 (my idea of sport involves swimming) Vintage - Omega 2531.80 Work In Progress

Sounds like a plan

PS I'm really not trying to be a jerk about this, but seeing those 'Worlds Worst Police Chases' shows and the amount of totally stupid car crashes that could be avoided, I'd just rather people were a bit more mindfull of the dangers of car travel

Your speedo is reading 50 and the Revs are nearly on 2000. Interesting definition of 'dead stop'

Awesome, I can't wait to see the pics of it. I really ought to get decent quality pics of my watches, but I really only have access to my phone's camera, which, although great for quick snaps of the Mrs and the pets, doesn't really cut it for close up work It's funny, when I first got my Submariner, and even my Planet Ocean, I really liked their 'prinstine condition', but, having started work on my POS 2531.80, and plans for a Vintage Submariner, that worn look is certainly starting to appeal to me. As I said, it might not be accurate to a specific model of Rolex, but it's still a nice looking watch that I'd wear any day
-
Looks almost like a Submariner with an Exploerer II bezel. To be honest, regardless of how accurate it is to a Rolex model, it looks like quite a nice watch. I'd wear it any day.

This is an idealized list, not pieces in my collection, and I couldn't totally narrow it down to four, so I gave options. Daily Beater - Omega Planet Ocean 42mm or Vintage Rolex/Tudor Submariner Dress Watch - Omega Seamaster 2531.80 or Patek Philipe Classic Series Gondolo Smart Casual - Panerai Luminor Base or Patek Philippe Gondola Sporty - Rolex Submariner or Omega Speedmaster Professional X-33 (my idea of sport involves swimming)

I wouldn't be so sure. After all, you can go to tailors in Bangkok who will make a full suit in 24-48 hours. Perhaps it is similar with these watch dealers.

I was just wondering the best ways to go about vintaging lumes on watch hands. I accidentally vinataged the lumes on my 2531.80 by leaving it under a daylight lamp for two hours. Lumes that were perfectly white, went as yellow as those on a vintage submariner. However. The lumes on the hands were untouched. I need to get new hands for the watch anyway, so was planning on vintaging them to match the lumes on the dial. Can anyone suggest the best method for achieving this yellowy color, or would baking them under the same daylight lamp work (as it didn't do anything with the existing hands)
-
Not meaning to be a jerk here, and in as nice a way as possible, would it not be safer to take a picture of your watch while your car is parked, not moving at 50 in 'rush hour' traffic? There's enough accidents on the roads already, let's not go causing any more  PS Awesome photo

OKay, I'm pretty stoked at the moment. I've re-set the titanium bezel insert so the triangular marker is lining up with the 'missing scallop'. It's not lined up as the insert should be lined up, but, given the nature of the bezel, it's making the best of a bad situation. During my investigation of the forum, I came across the review of the Tudors, a link lead me to a pic of a Tudor which is precicely the color scheme that my 2531.80 will wind up. Black dial with vintaged yellow lumes, and a dark blue bezel. I didn't know if the colors would work together, but, having seen this Tudor, this is definitely the color combination I want
