enjoyed a bahamian holiday today with my newest arrival ...

well it took a long time, but the iwc big pilot 5004 has finally landed in the bahamas! i had major issues getting this watch ... here's a quick recap that has to be some sort of record. i originally ordered two 5004's from one dealer and he sent me two 5002's. i then ordered from another dealer and he sent me one with a defective movement. so, i ordered from yet another dealer ... and amazingly this watch also had a movement problem. i began feeling that i wasn't supposed to have this watch in my collection. a quick e-mail to king and she made me a believer again! see below a few quick shots. fyi, the watch (as stated before) came from king, the strap is an oem gator that i picked on timezone and the deployment was bought from watchstation. you'll notice this is the correct deployment for this watch as this watch comes stock with the 5002 style deployment. for those of you that already own this watch, you know it is a great piece for the price. i'm going to have a hard time switching this one up for a while. i will eventually do the ar and datewheel mod. thanks for looking!

sorry to hear that buddy, but i'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason. i expect 2010 will be a great year for you. all the best!

i'm not sure why people insist that the brown and black quality is different? i've owned them both and they are the same poor quality. for accuracy, the genuine 5002 comes on a brown leather strap while the 5004 comes on a black alligator strap. the lugs are 22mm x 18mm, i'm not sure what they are on the 3717? i hope this helps.

ya, there are no white dialed automatics (with date function). i would take richard lawton's advice above with the 104. here are the genuines side by side. good luck!

deltatahoe is completely right about everything he said. but for me, i think the best position of the power reserve is on the full line above the 7 (see picture below of a gen in this position). the reason i say this is because ... if the power reserve was at 6.5 or 7 and someone tried to wind it, it obviously wouldn't move but it should and would on a gen. if the rep was already set to the full line, even the gen couldn't be wound past that point. not that this situation would ever happen in real life, but that's the way i think in my sick, obsessive compulsive little head. i know i'm not the only one. who's comin' with me?

here's a stock photo of my scatola del tempo 1rt-sl single watch winder. it retails for over $500 but you know i didn't pay that.

i'm waiting for either one of these, and can only imagine they'll be repped soon.
