I've just bought a genuine Tudor Tiger. It's been through the wars a bit, it has a aftermarket bracelet and the pawnshop owner was a bit too vigorous with his polishing. But I paid under the odds so I'm happy. I'd like to get it back to the original (or as close as possible). Some of these models (79280) came with the sharkskin strap, polished lugs and an endlink which was matt/polished/matt. Some came with matt lugs, a jubilee style bracelet and a matt/polished/matt/polished/matt endlink. My questions are Do I need the endlinks to attach a strap? Or will a curved end strap fit? I've read somewhere that you need curved spring bars for a strap on this watch. Is that correct? Where would I find the end links? Where would I find a strap? Where would I find a bracelet/deployment that's not gonna break the bank (replica?) Help me out guys. R

Thanks for the replies and advice, and (sorry PAMman) I've decided to go with the CS2110. Having worn it for a few weeks now, it just feels right. I tried on the WW2110 yesterday and it just felt a bit too... refined? ...dressy? ...overthought? For me the Monaco is an interesting historical timepiece (square shape, first(ish) auto chrono), with the celebrity association only really pushed hard after McQueens death (he was hugely wary of having his name exploited, ironically one of the reasons he chose Heuer rather than the more famous Omega and Rolex). So the CS2110 will remain on my wrist, and the WW2110 will fund a new purchase...

I'm having a dilemma. I already own a Monaco (WW2110) and whilst I like it, I'm not sure if I love it. It's a beautiful looking watch, but maybe a bit too removed from the originals, a bit too 'refined' if you know what I mean. A CS2110 has come into my possession, it needs a new plexi, and a new strap, but it's the Heuer original re-issue. Closer to the original version (or at least as close as I'm gonna get without shelling out £4k) Two questions... 1. How does everyone else feel about the evolution of the Monaco? It certainly has a distinctive look, (I'm no Steve McQueen wannabe, chasing ever more expensive and slightly more authentic re-issues) but are the designers chasing their tail a bit too much? 2. Is the CS2110 something that is worth holding onto over the WW2110? I like them both, but for different reasons. But I can't hold onto both, so which would you guys keep? Rob

The 'after' pic Sorry about not including a before pic, I was too impatient to get started. The area which has the highlight was completely matt, and overall the strap looked really old and tired. I was worried before I started that I was gonna end up with either a too shiny result, or it just wasnt gonna make any difference at all. The bottle recommended applying with a damp sponge or cloth, but I used a paint brush. It dries pretty quickly (about 5mins) so you need to be careful not to let it pool, otherwise you won't get a smooth finish (I did this in a tiny area but was able to rescue it beforre it completely dried). As you can see from the picture, the strap is now back to it's best. R

Just received my Super Shene bottle on Friday. In my impatience to repair my strap, I forgot to take the before pictures. Dumb! But boy, what a result!!! I couldn't have hoped for a better one. The strap is genuinely back to it's best. I cannot even see the worn areas any more and I cannot recommend Super Shene highly enough. I was actually considering getting a croc-effect strap as a replacement, would have cost me £20-40, so glad I didn't now. I'll take some after shots today, nothing to compare with because I didnt do the 'before' shots, but trust me, the strap was pretty scuffed and worn.

Yeah P, I think that Super Shene is a type of acrylic lacquer. I've read a few online reviews and the trick seems to be adding it sparingly with a damp sponge, letting it dry, then buffing the shine back. Apply too much and the leather will become stiff and crack, ruining the strap completely. I'm gonna take the plunge today, it's available on amazon for a £10. Once i've received it, I'll do some before and after pix.

I'd love to, but a croc strap is quite expensive. Over £100 and closer to £200 for a Tag version. I could go cheaper, but wanted to see if there was some manner of alchemy that could bring the old croc back to life first.

Cheers for the advice guys, all useful. On closer inspection it looks like those matt areas are where the leather has been slightly scuffed through wear. I've a feeling that no amount of oil, wax, creme is gonna bring this back to the original shine. I've had two evenings of beeswax application in the hope of reducing the matt nature of the scuffs, and although the unscuffed areas are now beautiful and back to their shiny best, the matt areas remain stubbornly matt. Any ideas on de-scuffing? :-)

Hey Everyone I recently bought a lovely gen Monaco (Calibre 6, non-chrono, black face, seconds at 6) and I love it. Problem is the guy who owned it previously didn't care for it the way it should have been cared for. He obviously thought that a lovely crocodile strap should be worn in the shower, gone swimming with and never fed. The result is that it has dulled significantly. Not everywhere, just patchy dull. I'd like to restore the original leather sheen, but I have a feeling that no amount of Beeswax is gonna bring back the lustre, it looks like patches of very matt leather. I had thought of resealing it with something like Eco-Flo Satin Sheen or Super Sheen. Anyone have any experience of dealing with a seriously dulled strap, or any experience of the above products? Rob

Hey Everyone I've an opportunity to buy a gen(?) Monaco Calibre 6. It's going for £600, has a few scratches to the SS, but the crystal looks clear. I'm buying it from a shop, so I can return it if I'm not happy. There isn't any box or paperwork, so I was wondering if there was any chance it was a rep. I know the chronographs are difficult to rep, but as this is a non-chrono, what are the chances it is legit? I havent seen any of these on ADs, but it is a 2005 model, so maybe they don't rep them any more. Advice please Pic below

In her wisdom and taste (she married me after all!) she decided to kick her gaudy Michael Kors into touch, and is now the proud owner of a rather nice Omega SMP. I didn't tell her that it was originally a purchase for myself, but I'm too used to big watches, 41mm or above. Tried on a 46 mm B&R recently and loved it. I'll post some wrist shots tonight.

To be fair, I only bought the watch on a whim and decided to try and mod after purchase. I enquired about the bezel and crystal from JMB and he mentioned nothing about them being incompatible with a TT (I told him which rep I had). After posting the parts, then reading this conversation, he did bow to LHOOQs exhaustive knowledge on the subject, and although I now have the parts coming, I'm sure we'll work it out.

Yhanks for the advice Tom. And thanks for the heads-up on all the other 1016 experts on the forum. Your guys really know your stuff! I don't think that I'll be modding the watch as much as you guys. Although I like the idea of taking it in a gen direction, I can see that there's a large can of worms waiting. I enquired with JMB and he reckoned I'm okay with the bezel and the crystal. The crown, you're right, I hadn't checked if the TT would take crown or a tube. I'd be interested to see if anyone else has gone down this route with a TT. Or even how to age the watch (bag of screws?) would help it not look quite so 'new' And now that I think on it, spending bucks on a gen bracelet which may not even fit would be naive. Just about to start my very first modding journey, an Explorer 1016. Recently purchased it from Trusty via another RWG member. Was advised to go for JMB bezel and T22 Crystal (on their way) and have been looking at gen crowns and a gen bracelet. Was considering a relume, but then figured a 30 year old watch isn't gonna have much lume left anyway. If I'm going for a vintage gen look, what's the best mods I can go for?

Update... I got home and unwrapped the package and guess what? It looks like a woman's watch. Showed it to my missus (made out that I had actually bought it for her) and she said "I like it, but I wish it was a bit bigger" Story of my life...

No longer glows. To be honest it never actually bothered me, but after a while on the forum maybe I'm relume crazy! It's a 79190, which I believe is the slim model with the sapphire and the Rolex crown...
