Hi Gents, Thanks Big Dazza for your kind words. I did, indeed, think the next move could be a proper dial & hands aging process. I have seen and liked very much the work you've done on many Big Crown, by the way. At the same time I kinda like the "pristine" look of it like that, thinking about what inspired me to build this watch (Thunderball, Dr No, etc)... I'm thinking maybe swapping the insert bezel for a red triangle one... But I'm not sure...

Hi Gents, Txs jelliottz for your tip. Actually, after a little work I managed to get the stem back in place and retrieve the setttings position I had not been able to get to before. So now it's working properly. I also cut the stem to the appropriate lenght, that way it fits the new crown.

Actually, yes it is right now. But I managed to work it out, taking out hands and dial dissambling the date mecanism. Then, I rewind as I could (seems to be a known issue with ETA clone). Movement is working without stem at the moment. But I think it won't long last... I need a new 2836-2. About the crown, I had to replace the sitting as Tiger-concept original one was not fitting Ken's crown. Still work to be done

Hi Gents! Just got back from my watchsmith, with the sub. He was not able to put back the stem in :-( Does anyone would know if there is an trick with a chinese ETA 2836-2 to do that ? Good news is, I was able to place the big crown I ordered:

Hi Gents ! Just a quick update: I received the Big Crown from Ken today, it is supposed to fit the Tiger-Concept V3 case. Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised when I compare with photos I've seen of the Silix one for instance

Hi Gents ! Today, the postman delivered the 2836-2 cal. I've been waiting for a (too) long time now... I was so happy to put the watch together : A little but, though... I was unable to plug back in the stem (the crown you can see on the pics is without stem),... So I took the watch to my horlogist to have it fixed. Patience is the key, I guess...

Hi Gents, In Paris at the moment, I went in a famous Vintage Rolex Shop (Romain Réa, expert horloger) on my cousin's recommandation. Once in, so many treasures, and - of course - I asked after the "Grail": They have one 6538, hidden in a safe-lock, they showed me: So nice... They told me it has been serviced and dial and hands are not the original ones (and not gilt as you can notice)
-
Gorgeous! How did you age the bezel insert, if I may ask?

Hi Gents, Txs, I also think this dial is way better than the previous one (and should be, considering the price for it...). I've also ordered a 8mm crown from Ken; eager to see if it fit the JB5508 TC Case.
-
Hi Gents ! I've decided to keep the Tiger case. Just received the Yuki 4 lines: Just waiting for the 2836-2 cal. I ordrered. Many Thanks to William from tiger-concept for his shared knowledge and his kindness.

Hi Gents, Nice work alligoat, It seems to fit right; how about hands aging process ? I had a little chat with William from Tiger-Concept: a 2824-2/2836 should fit in the 5508 case and would de facto accept the Yuki 4 lines dial - I'm maybe interested in. The Crow should fit also the stem that come with it. Still thinking though...
-
That is very nice, indeed (I'm thinking photoshoot...). Like to see how it works and how to handle those tools in person.

Many Thanks again for all this valuable info. That is great to read yours comforting comments, and this is what I really like about RWG* I'm still planning, and will get back to you all when a (clear) decision have been made...

Txs Gents for your kind words, She rest now after a short but thrilling life (full of joy and learnings for me)... Now, out of sorrow, let's go back to 007 watch building : "Getting the Big Crown" ;-) I should be needing : - a new movement : thanks alligoat for 2813 ref. I'm thinking maybe "upgrading" ; "what other movement would fit in a 5508 tiger-concept case ?", I'm wondering - a Big Crown/Stem fitted for that movement : I've been reading few posts here and there about Athaya's Big Crown, and it would seems a good way to go but i'm lacking knowledge here... would that crown screw-in fit the Tiger-Concept case ? - "the" dial : keeping the Tiger case puts me in the same dilemma I've been in before ; getting a 28mm dial that would fit (there's a 4 lines Yuki) or sanding a 29mm one... again... I'm also considering the Silix road... That's a l

Hi Gents, Sad news... Yesterday, as I was working on the dial alignement within the case, a dial foot screw got loosed; both dial feet broke; and when I was trying to take it apart, the stem axis broke within the movement... So here I'm now, with - just - a case... quite discouraged...
-
Hi Mendota, Interesting, could you be more specific about differences between the two ?
-
I don't really know if the Silix and Tiger-concept case are alike - eventhough I remember having read somewhere they could be - but I've recently replaced the OOB one with a dome crystal suggested by DVNE that looks shorter than the one we can see in the first pics (and not that expensive...) : http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/172944-building-the-closer-i-can-get-007-big-crown/?p=1388552 Nice movies shots, by the way..
-
Well, I've just popped out the "old" one and put on the new one; what would be the right way to do it?
-
Hi Gents, following DVNE tip (many thanks), I ordered a dome plexi. That way, the rehault seems less "wokky" (if I'm not misunderstanding that word).

Hi Gents, I'm in different problematics at the moment: crow, crystal and "aging" process. Speaking of the last, I've been looking for a simple method to "age" the hands, essentially to match the dial indexes. After having read the "cigarette modding" thread from Fast Freddy, I thought that I could give it a try. Here's the result: I was (happily) surprised with the result - you can compare with above shots, but what do you think ?
-
Hi JoeyB, this is supposed to be V3 but I'm not sure about the Crystal and don't know for the last part of your post
