  1. You never know what could have happened... that would require for instance to replace crystal and dial after your watch protected you from a bullet your were trying to dodge... More seriously, the contrast on the first pic about "Rolex / Oyster Perpetual" makes it not that clear to me when you compare with other "sure" gilt dials : And with "sure" service dial :
  2. So that is unanimity on gilt. If I do agree about the minutes track on the first pic, with the lighter reflection argument, I'm more skeptical when I look at the first and second lines (ROLEX Oyster Perpetual) on both pics ; they look pretty much white more than gilt, don't you think ? But i have to say that Panerai's Kingston photo produce the same effect on the eyes. Indeed
  3. Hi Gents, When I first got myself in the RepWorld, it was mainly related to early Bond Movies: I was looking for - as many of us - to replicate Connery/Broccoli famous wristwatch. From that time, my taste evolved and I ended with one 6200 and one 6538. But that's not the point here. Here are two detailed screenshots I took from Goldfinger and Thunderball BR-rip, we all know about: From what I can see, this is not - as some of us use to believe - a Gilt Dial & Hand Set but rather a Service Dial (white and printed) and a Silver Hand Set. Is that it, or am I missing something here ? That would be the question I'm asking you, as I never really find a good answer/explanation to that... question
  4. One of the main flaws of our budget build is Rehault. I had a 6538 gen in hands a year ago and have to say that MBW seems to have a better one than Tiger's or Silix's. the second good point is the gen fit capabilities. if you can swap crown and bezel, get a decent gilt dial, your way - dpap - should be interesting to follow and should give a nice result.
  5. Thought you did : http://rwg.cc/topic/172944-building-the-closer-i-can-get-007-big-crown
  6. Could not agree more
  7. Hi Gents, Bezel is really nicely executed. I'm looking for one to replace the Silix one I got with the Big D. build, but can't seem to find a proper replacement one...
  8. Truly great work! Could you share your technique / give any tips regarding the brushing of the upper part of the lugs? What tool do you use for that?
  9. That would be that kind of tool (thanks to dbane for the pic) PS : amazing work and awesome pics as always
  10. Nicely done! I wonder how it'll look on the 6538 one,
  11. Et bé ! that 6538 dial looks so nice...
  12. Very nice outcome; eager to see the end result...
  13. stahl has completed the story and notably compared with a Burford dial one: http://rolexpassionreport.com/20008/unique-rolex-a6538-uk-military-big-crown-submariner/
  14. Hi Gents ! For those of you interested in 50'Subs and their evolution, here are few shots borrowed from P. STAHL Instagram, about one of his recent acquisition : a beautiful military version of our beloved Ref. 6538. Take a look to that bezel, "prototype-lly" made to be even easier turning around in deep water missions for the MOD divers. Big crown, "german silver" Bezel and Red Depth dial... Cheers!
  15. Hi Gents, Awesome work DLF, I imagine a lot of effort was put in the case reshaping ? I was also asking myself about the bezel ?
  16. Ok et merci, as soon as I can I'm on it.
  17. Hi, thanks for the tip. But It turns out I had one spare dome crystal orignally for my TC BC 6200 that does fit perfectly Big Daz' case (30,6mm), so I used it: And Imho, those builds look soooo much better with a lower dome crystal. I do have the same tools that you have, any tips for the bevels job (with the dremel) ?
  18. Hi, really like what you've done with your build. if you don't mind me asking, how did you sand down the crystal (I would like to be modding my Big Daz BC as well)?
  19. Hi Gents, I've done that few weeks ago: the case project has not started.
  20. Well Gents, it is done. I still need time to think about age-ing and, a quick "family" shot:
  21. Oh... and let me introduce that masterpiece of Big D, @ 3:
  22. Not at the moment, but I have in mind your HF post. What could be "simply" done because I don't have the tools you were using ? I don't plan to age the case or the bezel but dial and hands... The dial (filed down to 28mm) is with feet, but I'm having a hard time to find a 2846 mvt; would you have a provider in mind ? Thanks for your comment, and I agree with you about compromises vs accuracy... Here is a quick dial/hands shot (without mvt): a bit "white" at the moment...
  23. Mainly because the Clark's handset is made for 2824/2836 and I don't have another mvt.
