He probably think's you're being overpaid, being that you're wearing a $28K(valued) watch and he probably doesn't.

I saw one rep that looked strangely accurate (especially the datefont!); but back to the issue at hand, I was not at an AD per se (I think you know the Diamond District in NYC); they said the demand was SO HIGH (which is ironic being that it's still in thr shop window) that that was the "BEST PRICE" I was going to get.

Today I was at an AD and I saw the PP Nautilus Jumbo. As much as I ogled over the watch, I had an MSRP in my head in case I wanted to buy and pay with my soul. I guess it could not be more than $10-11K; but could you believe that for a SS model that only has time display has an MSRP of $28K?!?!?! Looks like it's not only my soul taken, but my wife's too. I say I heavily undervalued that watch. But the reason I started this thread is to ask you, what is your most undervalued watch? What makes you ask why, does it cost THAT much? What watch doesn't have obvoius "expensiveness"? What watch do you have makes people think that a Invicta must cost more than what's on your wrist? Oh, and to pre-empt any responses, I'm not referring to the actual amount you paid for the watch; but the "value" of it. To start off, I have to say that this is my most understated watch:

This question has been asked previously. Do a search on the forum for "202" "205" or "slytech" and "accuracy" and you find it. I owned a 202 and a search on the forum helped me figure out the seemingly minute differences. It's not so much the dial, per se, that you should be worried of if you are looking for accuracy, but more or less the case and case elements. Like kruzer said, the case is SS whereas the gen is Ti. Also, the crystal is AR coated on one side. The rep has none or a really, REALLY faint tint of AR. I can't see it. There is also a "silver ring" you will see on the dial on the rep. It's not part of the dial, but rather it's a thin film that it relatively hard to remove on the underside of the crystal. On the gen, that "ring" is black.
-
If you're comfortable with a DIY project, you can buy any base PAM and then do a dial swap. Of course, you'll also need to do the other kinds of mods to it to "achieve perfection" (or as my father in-law calls it, 'God's Country'). The 002 on the website I can confidently say that it's merely a $150 rep(at best) overhyped to sell for $499.

You're kidding, right? "These are all Grade 1 swiss replicas with original movements". -quote from website Besides, they quote two weeks delivery. It probably is as long as it takes for the board dealers to get a product to you. Shoot them off an email asking for a price. I bet it's AT LEAST $150 more than normal asking price.
-
I'm going to assume that the OP would like to do that, what with CNY and all and the Customs risks, it'll be another month before they get a replacement. It was probably less time-consuming to have a DIY solution instead.

The ironic thing was that I was looking for a skyland and someone who responded to my WTB on "tee-zee" thought I was talking about a skyracer. so, I pulled the trigger on that instead. I figure TNS would have one in stock if I were looking. Hopefully.

I'd like to add my newest acquisition to the thread...

Roll call.. How many RWG members have a genuine Panerai?
anton replied to V's topic in The Panerai Area
I'm going to guess: 1) PAM 000 2) PAM 183 3) PAM 200 Oh, and I couldn't accept a free PAM from you. I just ogle at the very sight of the pieces you put out there! -
Why "Ultimate", "Super", "Best", and "1:1" Should never be used
anton replied to anton's topic in General Discussion
I'll concede and say that a "Close Enough" PAM 092 (for example) won't draw me in as much as a "Ultimate" PAM 092 would. But when you want to claim the title of "Ultimate", I'd like to see that many of the flaws that plagued the preceding model would be corrected (that's why there's second chances). I'll admit that I started this posting because I recently purchased an 092 "Ultimate" and within a week of owning it all of a sudden the crown broke off its' stem, the CG became loose, the lug screws lost their threads, and the rotor stickers fell off! I could deal with all that becuase up until the 28th of this month, it does not affect the fuctionality of the watch. Isn't it funny when something (anything) seems to work perfectly UNTIL it gets into your hands? -

I think Victoria and Kruzer summed it up that there are the single-minded "righteous" members from both sides of the fence who think they know all the answer of why whom does what. Funny how it is always easy to dwell on the negative rather than to focus on the positive. I'll take an article on an Omega purists' website (sounds like 'ethnocentric') that says this about us rep buyers: "We have no regard towards the dseigns of the original manufacturer". If the argument were true, this forum would not exist. Sure, we'd buy the reps and then be done with it. But no, we fix, fix, and fix just to make it faithful to the original. So I'll say that we don't fool, but we are faithful. And that the elitists that need to prove themselves are usually more insecure than others. -
I am fed up with the dealers and their choice of words to describe the new rep models that come out on the market! And you all know you've seen it before: Ultimate, Best, VERY BEST, Super, Exact, 1:1 (maybe even 2:1, but I'm not talking bets here) IMO, all these choice words are a lie. I'd prefer "New Version" or "Close Enough" rather than the words above. Now, I know that those are just marketing ploys to entice the buyer, but one buyer does have a certain expectation when they buy a watch with one of the words above preceding it, right? I mean, you might think they would at least test the thing; after all, you spend not $65, but $368+ for them. I just say this because I am tired of a floppy CG, a broken stem from the crown, stickers falling off rotors, misaligned bezel, etc. With that being said, I probably still won't stop buying reps. I just would like to bring up what bothers me about the rep buying experience.

In the spirit of the ongoing debate of "how many gen PAMs do you own" or "wishlists" or "etc.", I'd like to ask you all if you've ever missed an opportunity to get a PAM only to find that you're still looking for that one, with no luck? Also, I thought this question might be a great way for me to jump right back in to the forum mix, as I've been busy with the real world for the past couple months; and now just settling down. To start the thread off, I'll give you two recent stories: There was a collector from the Providence Area who had a 162F and offered it up for sale, but being that the offering price at the time was in line with the 188/196, and coupled with my lack of PAM prices and the tendency to rise/fall, I thought the 196 was a better choice. Four months later, the 196 has not risen in value whereas the 162 can fetch 30% above it's MSRP in 2004. -------------------------------------- A couple of days ago, another collector was offering a DSN Fiddy here and we all know that that is one hot commodity. I wanted to be in tune with the collector to purchase it, but someone just HAD to step in right before I DID to purchase! Now I may not see another Fiddy for sale for a while! Talk about the sand falling from my fingers!

Right now just one: PAM 74 Coming soon: PAM 162; maybe a NOS PAM 29. It's just the discontinued ones that grow on me, for some reason. -
@hambone: Those shots look good! I could swear you were taking shots of a gen; that datewheel looks too good... gotta love that Nikon gear...for those types of shots I use a 60mm f2.8. worth every penny, IMO.

In light of our LI-Eastenders that we cityfolk try to distance ourselves to (unfortunately the UES/UWS women in their late teens/early twenties LOVE these guys), I'd like to take a page from Duesuetude's "book": CURSES! Speaking of guys like these, the in-laws and I had an engaging discussion about our current generation and how the succeeding generations always lower the standards of the preceding ones, and etc. I mean, I know all about Egotistical maniacs, but why is that some people are always trying to "one-up" another? (I have two eyes! Oh yeah; I have four!)

Desuetude.....Defacto?!?!?!?Did you also have a gen navitimer stolen from you? And again, forgive me if i am wrong!
-
YouTube clip reminds me of the "boys" I used to hang out with backin my college days...they're not "nouveau-riche"...they're "spoiled-rich"... And fir a second there, Desuetude, I thought you were Defacto! (he has the same avatar)

Well, a couple hours from now, this question will be on "page 2" of GD and long forgotten...
-
Well, I'm American. So an argument like this is almost "second nature" to me. And I am a curious person. Maybe you need to see the TZ and PuristS forums as well. They ask the same questions there.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were just a "New Yorker-Nouveau Riche" thing just going on where hyopthetically, all the finance professionals had their wardrobes tailored specifically to have one wrist wider or thinner than the other. I am constantly coming in for sales conf's and I see that plenty of them are wearing their watches OUTSIDE the cuff, button shirt cuffs buttoned to the 'inner' position (if you own a shift with the two cuff buttons, you know what I'm talking about). It looks rather silly considering there is a considerable portion of their shirts 'bunched' up at the wrist area. Have you ever heard of this new shirt being tailored where it's an 'exposed' cuff specifically made to show your watch? Pretty silly, if you ask me.

I am certain that the Bentley line is used to measure ground speeds; as opposed to the Navitimer, which is used to measure air speeds. And you're right, Andrew, that it is a Slide Rule in the sense that it could also be used as a rudimentary calculator. I had a friend who used his navitimer as a Tip Calculator!
